If it were possible, it'd be nice to have a sort of mage-community, made up of all mages.
Unfortunately, that'd just result in one big mess.

It would. I won't stop dreaming though. :crying:

Lucrosian. If I'm gonna live in a gilded cage, the gild might as well be nice.

Loyalists[/i] seek to strengthen the ties between mages and the Chantry and seek a closer 'cooperation' between the two. They often come into conflict with the Libertarians on this matter. (Templar arse-kissers)

Libertarians[/i] seek to acquire more independence for the Circle by weakening the control that the Chantry currently has on Magic; some Libertarians even wish to break away completely from the Chantry's supervision. They often come into conflict with the Loyalists on this matter. (Think Anders, but milder)

Aequitarians[/i] seek not to go to extremes in any matter concerning magic, instead preaching the enacting of moral restraint among mages in the use of magic. Although there is some disagreement among them of where the perfect 'balance' lies, all aequitarians are pragmatists at heart, and are often called to broker compromise between the Libertarians and the Loyalists.(Neutral passive wackos)

Lucrosians[/i] think that every affair of mages should be aimed at acquiring wealth and power by any means necessary. (Fenris' opinion of mages in an nutshell)

Isolationists[/i] are of the opinion that mages are not fit to live a 'normal' life, with other mages or among ordinary people. Instead, they should seek to live alone as hermits out in the wilds, far from civilization, where they can cause no harm to other people. (Not a bad idea, but lonely and dangerous)

Revolutionists A recent offshoot of the Libertarians, the Resolutionists seek to end Chantry domination over mages through violent means, including the use of blood magic. The fraternity is considered responsible for the recent decline in templar-mage relations. (Uldred)

So, while we're on the topic of circles, and seeing as this is a thread dedicated to the man who kind of sparked the biggest Mage-event since the fall of the Imperium:

Which mage faction do you think you'd fall into?
I'd go Aquitarian, personally.

I see myself more Libertarian than any of the other factions. The Chantry is broken; it might of been a noble goal at first when they first started the Circles, but the system has now failed. Even mages who just want to be able to openly love someone (I could say Jowan, but Lily was suppose to take her vows and such so I guess that wouldn't be a strong example.), or just not feel like they're cursed like the Chantry wants people to believe (That one mage praying in the Mage origin), or just dare speak out against the way the system is controlling things are now branded 'malifacar'?

Sorry, I gotta side with Libertarians on this one. Maybe even into Resolutionists slightly, but without the use of blood magic as that is no way to get support for mages' rights.

I like the sound of the Aequitarians but I don't like their union with the loyalists, The Libertarians sound a bit bull**** like, WE WANT TO BE FREE but no splitting from the chantry is CRAZY U MAD? The Isolationists sound cool but how does that work exactly? they arent allowed to just go away and live by themselves with no templars around surely?

You know I am actually very unclear on what happens after a mage passes their harrowing - are they allowed to move aorund freely? or only when given permission by the circle? And when does a mage become and enchanter and how is that different?

Good point.
I hold a mostly aequitarian view point, but when things get pushy I go libertarian.
We can go back to holding hands and having tea and biscuits when the war's over.

I would be Libertarian.

You can't always be "lucky" and have a Circle with Irving and Gregoir.
As long as the system is like this, there will always be some templar that could abuse his power.

From the wiki

Formari - The Tranquil belong to this group and do all the enchanting and trading on behalf of the Circle. Owain and Solivitus are Formari.

Solivitus didn't seem Tranquil to me to be honest O_O

Pretty much this.

The problem is that after Anders blows up the Chantry, he forces everyone's hand.  Moderate and peaceful positions aren't really an option anymore once open war erupts.

Has it actually reached open war though? The Chantry hasn't declared anything, the templars are broken up and Cassandra is trying to get Hawke to get one of the sides to calm down.

It sounds like while there have been squirmishes straight up war hasn't been declared yet. To me it sounded more like it was hastily reaching the point where war would be called but no one could really decide if they actually wanted a war. (Well more like each side couldn't reach a consensus.)

I suppose if I had to choose, I would say Libertarian. I dunno. I don't like the system in general. I would rather try to think of something entirely new.

It isn't a search for power, in that case they'd be libertarian or resolutionist. Lucrosians are more into putting their gifts into use, but not for wholly altruistic purposes.

Edit: And the "any means necessary" seems like something you added.

Where did the loyalists all go?  I would guess based on the epilogue that the bulk of the Aequitarians and even the Lucrosians and Isolationists decided to rise up and join the libertarians to break from the, but did they kill the loyalists?  Did the loyalists laeve to go back to the templars and chantry?

I want to know.

Again, we don't have enough information.

My interpretation was that the Circles did almost universally revolt, and the Chantry lost control of them.  The templars splintered, with some of them fighting the mages, some of them sympathizing with the mages, and only a small handful of them still loyal to the Chantry (since Varric says Cassandra's lost them too).  But again, that's based off of what?  Two lines of dialogue?

Yeah the ending felt really rushed. :/

It's hard to tell what's going on other than the Chantry being a wreck and the mages revolting.

What the wiki says about the Fraternities

Aequitarians are the dominant faction in Ferelden's Circle. They promote a moderate and popular viewpoint that advocates a set of rules and guidelines for mages to live and operate by. Aequitarians believe that all mages should help people and follow a set of ideals- to this end, they appear to be comfortable working alongside the Templars. Known Aequitarians include: Senior Enchanters Torrin, Wynne, and First Enchanter Irving.

Formari - The Tranquil belong to this group and do all the enchanting and trading on behalf of the Circle. Owain and Solivitus are Formari.

Isolationists are those who wish to separate themselves from the Templars, Chantry and indeed civilization in order to practise magic without scrutiny. Possibly "on an island somewhere". Niall is the only Isolationist seen thus far.

Libertarians desire that the Circle to become an autonomous, self-regulating order without Chantry involvement at any level. They form the largest opposition to the Aequitarian-Loyalist alliance. A more zealous faction called the Resolutionists are an offshoot of the Libertarians. The Libertarians count Uldred and Anders among their number.

Loyalists follow the Chantry's word as it is written. They are often called "Chantry apologists" for accepting the Chantry/Templars ever-present observation. They are allied with the Aequitarians.

Lucrosians believe that mages and their talents should be used for monetary gains.

I dunno if I could agree that the Ferelden circle was considered the "lucky" option. Yes, I know you had it in quotes, I'm just getting into this more. :P

Even before Uldred got a crazy demon all up in him, you had mages like Jowan who turned to blood magic because he felt trapped in a corner because he loved Lily and could only see blood magic as the solution (Not every mage can be as badass as Surana/Amell and Hawke who are magically immune to demons, and don't need blood magic to prove their points. ;).)

And then Anders, who remembers what it's like outside of the Circle, and dragged back over and over again just because he srefuses to submit to being caged and seen as a weapon to the outside word. Sadly I wish more mages would open their eyes to this.
