I don't think most templars have ever seen or even had the opportunity to battle an experienced mage.
Like in Act III you see them cutting down apprentices with ease.

Would taking down an experienced Archmage be so simple? Especially ones with rare, unheard of talents.

Arcane Warrior was chosen because for starters it's useful, and secondly, you wouldn't guess that he's a mage by looking at him.

A point that Aramil takes high advantage of! Walking around in shiny armor with a giant sword on his back isn't how most mages walk around. At lease from a templar's view point.

As for the whole AW vs Templars, I do think by now he's been an AW for so long, he's picked up a few tricks from research to be handle to not be completely useless after a smite or a few dispells. There's also the whole "disguise" thing going on for him. For everything else: Zev mardurknifing should do the trick. :D

Okay, off to watch movie with the family. Have fun!

I have a question. As most of you guys might have done this already.
Have any of you tried the rivalry path, side with templars, and Anders still stay with you at the end of the game? So far it seemed impossible.
It's the first time I try that path and I must admit it is so hard to be mean to Anders.

It is possible, but at the moment the rivalry ending path is bugged.

Should be fixed in patch 1.03 (just piggybacking on Batteries response).

Good. it didn't make any sense - "I want to fix everything" - and there he is, ranting after he blew up the Chantry. My templar-siding non-andersmanced Hawke branded him as  an ultimate idiot and put down, when he came back. Funny he had the time to go back to Darktown, and change his clothes back.

Oh gosh I love that picture of Anders as the classic image of Justice with blindfold, scales and sword. It's... not a picture I ever had in mind before, but now it's stuck.

I thought about that image...its scary actually how much it resembles my mental image xD

Also yes "eat your quest, apostate!" I was sure only Orsino would have asked me to do something in Act3...why the hell Meredith...oh well...

help me! I knew I shouldn't have, but I left the thread. The pain of the DA II and Anders hate hurt me.

*hides in a corner of the Anders thread* I am not leaving again.

Is that mean it is still plausible even befure the patch 1.03 is release? At the moment I am trying to just rival-friendship him (testing, so when the patch is up I know what's around the corner), and am bloody terrify he will walk off at any minute.

To be honest, I think in my Warden's case he spent his time freaking the templars out by shapeshifting into a bird and freaking them out that way (can the Templars tell...? Nah. DA2 proved that they're blind)

The downside:
Shale disapproves - infinity.<3

You remember the various conversations we had about Templars in DA2 being useless and unable to identify a mage, even when they're wearing "I'm a mage" signs?

Well, proof it was in Origins:

It's a good thing Alistair didn't become a templar, it would be totally easy to evade him.
Alistair: "Hey are you a mage?".
Anders: "Um...No."
Alistair: "Alrighty then."

He won't leave if you side with the mages but as MG800 said his conversations make no sense during The Last Straw if you're rivaling him.

And yeah the clothing change was a bit of a "" issue.

Shale's dry wit and utterly derisive nature was sorely missed in DA2...I wanted my pigeon smasher! Girl woulda solved the whole game in act 1 by smooshing both Meredith and Orsino....after she got done attacking the avian statuary around the keep. I<3Her.

Heehee.

Yeah, that part in Origins always made me go, "Uh... what?" My male Amell especially. I know you like to put on a dress and dance the remigold Alistair, but that's probably not why Amell was wearing a dress... or holding a staff. Sorry I forgot my "I'm a mage" sign that day.

Oh, and I forgot... Andersbutt.

EDIT: Guys, I am disappoint. I did a google search for "andersbutt" and this thread didn't come up first.

What happen if Hawke is siding with the templar and max up the rivalry scale? I tried that to Fenris in my last playthough and he was okay to switch side. Will Anders do the same?

It's bugged so that he refuses to side with you. He's supposed to side with Hawke on rivalry and not friendship. Sadly the game is bugged so that during The Last Straw Anders assumes the two of you were friends. (Or friendly lovers as the case maybe).

And if you let him go and side with the templars for some mindboggling reason he reverts back to his original outfit. :?
