How many spells do they know anyway? They've no tactical experience, and they're panicing. (I doubt they had that much time)
I'm surprised Meredith allowed them to learn offensive spells! ("What use would they have for them?")

They've not tactical experience yet Orsino can lead a bunch of Qunari around without breaking a sweat? Sure I doubt most of them have it. But Orsino who claims to be their leader does. If nothing else he should've suggested spamming spells at the chokepoint. (And it happens again in the gallows.  It's worse then because it's an even smaller chokepoint.)

I'm a bit surprised they knew offensive spells as well but they do. Then again they still might be needed incase a war with the Qunari came up so them knowing attack spells isn't that surprising considering the Qunari were parked in Kirkwall for 4 years.

Yeah that's...kind of off. Not to mention the room filled with enchanted templars. How the heck did that happen? And where did the rest of them go? Templar Hawke should've been getting backup the whole time.

And where would they get traps, may I ask?
They've been isolated from the world for Maker knows how long, and you really think Meredith allows any opportunities for the mages to get their hands on traps?

Hello Paralysis Glyph! That's is what one would usually consider a trap. ^_^

Meredith banned that spell. Every offensive/defensive spell they learnt, they learnt it in secret by smuggling text books via the Coterie.
(It's the most logical explanation)

Incidentally, have you ever accidentally combined Glyph of Paralysis and Glyph of Repulsion?

Hm. Perhaps. Grace does talk about them taking away their grimoires and staffs. (But somehow every mage you meet still has one. :? The staff not the grimoire.)

Does it still make that mass paralysis spell? I haven't tried it because I assumed it wouldn't work.

You mean the same Orsino who decided that the entire resistance was futile and turned himself into a mother****ing Harvester!?!
Sure. He was veeeery helpful.

That's a fair theory, I suppose.

If DA2 should have taught you anything it's that: Templars are useless.

As for the vanishing army: Enchantment!

I don't think so no.

I only discovered that combo in the fight with the Archdemon. I had nearly won. Just one more blow...
And then Wynne cast her Glyph of Paralysis at the same time as I cast Repulsion and it paralysed everything except the Archdemon.

I thought that only happened after he saw his students getting slaughtered by the dozen. (which again is retarded because all of them save one survived by the time I was done killing the templars yet magically they all drop dead. >_> )

I don't mind to laugh at your pain. But...lmao.

I was lucky enough to discover that combo when my mage was far enough away not to get affected.

The circle mages aren't carting around wagons of lyrium to power their spells, so yes, blood magic is the only option they have for fueling the spells that are likely to save their lives.

This is a fair point. Though I wonder how long the RoA took. And how often a mage needs to use lyrium to replenish mana reserves (without the arbitary limit the companions and Hawke get due to game mechancis)

Game mechanics are necessary in order for a game to work. There can't be enemies out there that your mage hawke isn't able to damage, because that would lessen the awesomeness of said Hawke.

Well, the necessity of blood magic IS reflected in one game mechanic.

In the end-game fight with Meredith, she does this ridiculously annoying thing in which she completely depletes the stamina and mana bars of your entire party.  Guess who's the only person largely unaffected by her BS?  Blood mage Hawke and Merrill.

Yeah...that makes no sense. Why does she reduce STAMINA? That's not magic! You can't magically take away someone's stamina! (well unless you're using magic and that's not what Meredith did).

Templar hunters give me the willies. Otherwise, yes.

Still, it'd be nice to actually see them there. Fill the room with mages and templars and let them battle it out. Actually make the Annulement seem dramatic and bloody. And throw in your spare companions! Why am I instructing them to keep close or cover us, when they don't bloody show up anyway?

Oh, DA2 ending. How you irk me so.

QFT at the bolded. So much stuff not making sense. Like why is Pro-Templar Hawke who sided with Meredith from the jump, had his sister die in the deep roads and isn't a mage is put under arrest. What kind of sense does that make? I mean...I can understand MEREDITH but why the hell do the other templars go along with it in that case?

I can't pick both? :crying:

And on another note. Why on earth are all these shades and demons popping up during the RoA yet none of them appear when I'm slaughtering those fool bloodmages and idiot thugs from previous acts? (and a few in act 3)?

Bah.

Because they're templars. They have lyrium for brains.
Also because Meredith is a blood mage. Yeah.
Because Meredith is crazy and controls their paycheck.

 Lyrium for brains indeed.

I just don't understand why Meredith has any reason to fear Rogue/Warrior Hawke at that point. You might have no mage companions (you can kill off Anders and Merrill by then), you sis was never in the circle/wardens, you've shown your support for her from the jump. I...just don't understand. :crying: I mean yeah lyrium idol but damnit I'm sick of that being used to explain everything she does!

If Warrior/Rogue Hawke had questioned her I'd understand...but you don't have too. You can go along with everything she's saying and she still turns on you.

Granted Orsino does the same thing (but he at least has the hopeless desperation bit going for him).

That does explain why none of the mages try using Electric spells on the Templars. Shouldn't those heavy suits of armor conduct electricity? =]

So upset, in fact, that I put him in a blender with Tom Waits, and made a roleplaying character out of the resulting mess.

I know. :crying:
I want him to return so that my Surana can make a deal with him and they can become a kickass Anders/Justice/Flemeth(?) style Pride-Abomination together!

Don't ask me why. I don't even know if that's possible...

...how did that work out?

Mouse does make a reapearence, though. He is the one who teaches you how to become a mouse when you go into the Fade durring the Circle questline ;p He's dieing because as powerful as he may have been, the sloth demon is actually more powerful. If you remember, the sloth demon that helps you in the mage-origin is the -same- sloth that traps you in the fade later on. <3

BLOOD MAGIC IS EVERYWHERE!!!!!

(If Meredith had survived, she'd brobably murder everybody, claimin they were a blood mage, and then after all of Kirkwall was dead, she'd decide she must be under control of blood-magic and kill herself.)

I don't think she's dead.
I think she'll be back in DA3 as a glowing red lyrium statue. (Just watch... <_<)

How about because Meredith is completely power hungry? She is in control of the city. The viscount didn't dare go against anything she wanted nor did Elthina. Hawke is beloved and gaining power very quickly. Thus, Hawke is a threat to her grip on Kirkwall. So she tries to take Hawke out and the Templars could go along with it because... why not? It's not like this is the first absurd thing she's done and they've never had a problem with blindly following her before.

This I can see. She decided to backstab a Hawke that backed her up because she didn't want him/her gaining control of the city. Makes sense and doesn't rely on the idol or insanity to explain it. Thanks YamiSnuffles.

You didn't need to use the Arishok to say so! I admit my knowledge of what conducts electricity is iffy but I could've sworn most metals could do so!

Edit: And I have a really weird bug. there's this random templar dude praying in the gallows after I spare the mages that run up to Hawke. @Heidenreich, are you sure? He had a completely different voice actor as well.

Mouse/Pride Demon IMO, gave the best advice in both games so far, and yes I think he trumps Flemeth's as well. Plus he's a BAMF simply because of the voice he says those lines in as well. Valor is up there as well, just less a prig, lol.
