The thing about comparing what Anders did to real life terrorism is that ... I get the impression that the entire world of Thedas, outside of Tevinter, believes that mages should be oppressed. Outside of the Dalish and Dwarves, I feel like everyone follows the Chantry and that they all fear mages. If there are entire other continents of nothing but Qunari or something, I have missed those codex pages.

My point was, it's a bit different when it's civil war and not instigating a war with others. It's one thing to blow up the Qunari church because they hadn't left, and one thing to blow up a cotton plantation to free some slaves. They're both AWFUL and I HATE IT, but I think they're different in a way.

@Naamah_bb I'm getting even more flak as a fan because I actually think what Anders did WAS justified in the world he was in. That's an unpopular opinion even among Anders fans. I don't condone terrorism in the modern world, but in this case I truly believe there were no other options.

I'm TOTALLY there with you. *high five* Posted Image

I've been arguing with my friend all day about this, and he brings up MLK and women's right movements comparisons. Obviously, this would be terrorism in the real world, but in Thedas, it makes sense. I'm proud of Anders...there- I said it!

man, it's kind of nice to here other people say this. i was beginning to feel like a bad person for sort of being ok with it.

So was I, but then I was all like, nah, you shall not beat me! xD

I think I am just doomed to always love the characters that the fandom hates the most.  Kaidan, Alistair, Carver, Anders...

Sounds like me!   :wizard:

In my opinion, I think the special breed of Male Human Love Interests seem to get the most hatred on these forums.  Must be something in the air.

maybe they are just written for a different audience then a stereotypical gamer alpha-male. I have yet to run into a game that has better romace stories then the DA games do

I think that's one of the issues I had with Grand Cleric Elthina - I liked her, but I kept wanting to shout at her. "INTERVENE. PLEASE INTERVENE. THIS IS NEVER GOING TO SORT ITSELF OUT -"

And then she would stroll calmly off.

It annoyed me to know how much she cared. <_< I guess it's all just empty promises, I'm afraid.

From what I've seen, the vast complaints stem from the issue of Anders aggressively coming onto people's m!Hawkes. Personally, I thought both Anders and Fenris were pretty deep and enjoyable. No character came without emotional baggage anyway. If they were all real, they would've qualified for psychological therapy.

I'm glad I got my opinion out in the open then! It's just funny all this Anders hate, since that short story was posted way back before the game came out it's been so vitriolic. I'm glad the people who like him are so reasonable and awesome :)

They will all die. Every templar, every holy sister who stands in the way of our freedom will die in agony and their deaths will be our fuel. We will have justice. We will have vengeance.

Daaaymn. Foreshadowin' turned on max.

I like his look better in DA2, although I kind of wish they'd kept his eyes small and cheeky. Then we wouldn't have had the big soulful looks though, so I get why they did it :)

And this is kinda the crux of the matter. A lot of people are judging Anders based on the modern world and the effects of terrorism in our world today. Thedas is a different place with different ideals and a much much more violent lifestyle. There is nowhere that is untouched by violence in Thedas, no safe haven.  Most people you meet have killed, a lot have killed innocents - Zev was an assassin and admits sometimes innocents get in the way and admits he loves killing.  Isabella's actions through her own greed and need for self preservation resulted in way more deaths than Anders.

But terrorism is so emotive that a lot of people can't see past 9/11 and they cannot judge Anders on his actions within the context of Thedas.
Yes the Gland Cleric was a nice old lady that Seb loved like a mother, but the chantry has a lot of power. she could have stopped meredith (or at least tried, I don't think meredith was sane by that point) She could have intervened, but she stood by and let people suffer horrendous things turning a blind eye to what was going on by hiding in the inaction of the maker. The Divine was considering marching on Kirkwall and cleansing everyone, innocents alike - that's how evil the chantry is.
I hate terrorism and 9/11 was an atrocity, but in Thedas no one is really innocent and sometimes drastic action needs to be taken.

Yeah, his facial hair and eye brows are darker from his hair.

I like Anders a lot too btw, was just curious as to what people thought of how he looks now.

OMG. The torture is over.
My one and only templar playthrough.

I killed Anders. And I am surprised to say... it wasn't as horrid as I thought it would be.
I let him go free and he went to defend the mages... it made sense. My Hawke wanted to protect the city, minimize the war, and respected the other side. She let Anders go to be at the side of the mages, to die for his cause in a proper way... FIGHTING. Not stabbed in the back like an animal.

And when he came to kill me, he was only sad. And resolved. He wasn't angry, he wasn't shouting... he was simply disappointed it came to this.

It was beautiful! Hawke did not fight him, Fenris fought him alone and killed him.
There was no romance, Hawke and Anders were really good friends and she helped him as much as she could.

I hated siding with the templars, but I must say that Bioware made a beautiful thing out of having to kill Anders.

I can imagine that my mage warden and my templar Hawke would have quite the fight. I don't think my elf mage would care one tinsy bit that Hawke was just trying to find a peaceful solution and try to stop a war before it began.
I can't say I blame the warden.

Templar siding NEVER again.

I haven't gotten any flirt lines with him, unless I try.  And that's with an M!Hawke.
Avoid the heart icons, and it's good.
(Mind you, I'm also only still in Act 1 on a second playthrough.  I romanced Anders the first time around.)
