Three years it is a lot. If I think about it, it must have been a torture. He probably could see Hawke everyday, but had to avoid it or at least avoid exposing his feelings too much. And maybe Hawke wasn't even making it easy for him, I can imagine my Hawke teasing and flirting to be honest. Or maybe he had to suffer if Hawke was more interested in Fenris or someone esle. Because we know Anders always loves you xD
Talk about restraint. It is obvious that he comes at you in the end so powerful.
I think if in RL some friend of mine suddenly says "It's been three years that I think about you", I would be more admired than scared xD

Oh, I have no doubt my Hawke at least was making things rough. One of Anders lines is along the lines of, "I've tried to hold back. You saw what I almost did to that girl. You've seen what I am. But I'm still a man. Don't expect me to resist forever."

I read it as, "I'm only human, if you flirt with me one more time I'm going to pounce on you." And then he did and I squeed.

My Hawke exactly - "dangerous game you play" but how exciting it was! She didn't think about love, she was doing it for fun.... well, until.

I'm not sure how Anders managed to hold out for an entire three years, considering my Hawke was probably grabbing his junk and offering to blow him approximately a week into their relationship.

That sounds pretty much like my canon Hawke. When Anders said his, "three years aching for you" line, poor Colton was going, "Where were you?! I would have totally done you three years ago!" Ah, it all worked out in the end. Until the Chantry went boom, anyway. *shakes head at crazy apostate*

Crazy shexy demi- old god/spirit apostate.
Just started Act 3 of my second run through. Didn't have the Exiled Prince add-on first time round and having Sebastian warn Hawke about Anders nearly made me cry! I was like, dammit, I know it'll be tough but I think we can make it work choirboy.

I don't know if anyone else has made this suggestion but I totally see Downfall by Matchbox 20 as an Andersmance into the Sunset song.

Lyrics sample:
I wonder how you sleep
I wonder what you think - of me
If I could go back
Would you have ever been with me
I want you to be uneased
I want you to remember
I want you to believe in me
I want you on my side

...

I've always been with you
Here and now
Give all that's within you
Be my savior
And I'll be your downfall

electricity by elton john/billy elliot

I can't really explain it,
I haven't got the words
It's a feeling that you can't control
I suppose it's like forgetting, losing who you are
And at the same time something makes you whole
It's like that there's a music playing in your ear
And I'm listening, and I'm listening and then I disappear

How about Don't Give Up with Pink and John Legend (and Herbie Han****, as a bonus)?

Edited to add:
Anders would sing the verse and Hawke the chorus, of course.

No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose

Chorus:
Don't give up
'Cos you have friends
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet
Don't give up
I know you can make it good

Oh, I have no doubt my Hawke at least was making things rough. One of Anders lines is along the lines of, "I've tried to hold back. You saw what I almost did to that girl. You've seen what I am. But I'm still a man. Don't expect me to resist forever."

I read it as, "I'm only human, if you flirt with me one more time I'm going to pounce on you." And then he did and I squeed.

I was so glad that he actually kissed Hawke there.  I was 100% expecting to get a Mass Effect-style "when the time is right I will come to you" speech and have him show up at the estate later.  I wasn't expecting the glomp kiss, and it made my day.

And yes, I'm sure my psycho hussy Hawke was making it hard for him.  Heh.  Hard.

Heh. Hard indeed.

Interesting idea. I think it's probably a combination of the two. If his emotions are amplified by Justice's connection to the Fade, plus he hasn't been laid in a couple of years, it's really no wonder he comes on as strong as he does. Oddly, this is normally a turn off for me in both RL and fiction, but with Anders it's done so well, he tries so hard to keep Hawke at bay, that when he finally succumbs, it's very powerful.

See this makes me think of the song Wicked Game by Chris Isaac (bit cheesy but a classic nonetheless!) - don't know if anyone has suggested that song before

Your post has made me want to start up another game just for that scene now Posted Image

This is why I had Hawke sleep with Isabela and Fenris in the interim. Not only did it cut back in her own need for cold baths, but she was probably less predatory around him in general.

That scene when I played through it the first time actually made me a bit uncomfortable and go bright red - that's not a criticism but rather a testament to how spot on a portrayal of a powerful intimate moment it was. I'm a bit uncomfortable with intense feelings IRL so that moment really provoked a reaction out of me. Of course now it's one of my favourites in the game Posted Image

Also, apologies for the double post, I don't know how to do separate quotes in the same post Posted Image

Lady Hawke/Anders video...so sad it hurts though ç_ç But it was well done, it deserved a link. The author has some more good videos too.

And I'll link again my favourite "Anders's trailer" , because I can. And another one with Anders and Lady Hawke, even though it has a bit of everything in DA2.

And now I should go to work, seriously >.< But everytime I open the browser I end up here... :D

Hard, indeed, because Hawke is a cruel, cruel creature.

That kiss was exactly the sort of thing that makes me determined to go into a game unspoiled.  You get :o and  :o and  unawares which is exactly how it ought to be.  Anders wasn't the only one panting, I tell you.

I loved the kiss! of course when he did his whole "three years" thing I facepalmed a bit. My Hawke was chasing him from the get go, how he held back for three years is beyond me.

I can understand the three years bit if I romance Fenris first. (Especially if I friendship romance Fenris first). So to make it look less...odd I go with that. He was too busy being blocked by Hawke and Fenris to say anything to Hawke (other than his usual snide "What does he see in you?" remarks. And didn't want to admit he was in love with a Hawke who "sided with the templars." in Anders view.

I think he waited so long because he was telling himself getting close to you in that way was bad for you.  I think he had some idea what he was going to end up having to do and if you were that close to him he knew it would break your heart.  Also he does on some level think he is a monster, and then at another point he fully feels he is one.  Why would he want to subject Hawke to that? To loving a monster.

But he does love her and the need to be loved finally wins over his resolve.

And with F!Hawke he does keep telling you that he's bad for you and is going to break your heart.  I can see him resisting for quite a while with the mindset that he was trying to save you from yourself.  I suppose it was three years or about three months, as the story was framed.  It wasn't like Varric was going to say, "And let me describe that time about six months later when Anders finally caved to Hawke's constant teasing" before continuing the story.  Can you imagine the railroading and ninja-secks rage then?!

It's odd with my Hawke though because he has no issue throwing out flirt lines before that.

Though I do agree with the last bit.

Yeah if you are nice to him he starts the flirting then quickly regrets it >_<  Well he is Bi-polar.  I am sure him and Hawke were on a rollarcoster the whole time leading up to him wanting the sexy time.

It would have got the Seeker off his back ^_^  Or worse case she would have just killed Varric...

The three years thing would've made sense if he was actively repelling my Hawke's advances like he does with a female. But no, he's the one who propositioned my Hawke, telling him that he'll give him time to consider, in as much detail as he fancies, and commented about his soft heart underneath the scruff.

So I suppose that means for 3 years, Anders would rather fantasize about scruffy Hawke with his right hand ready rather than ask Hawke if he's still interested in taking up the offer. That's what makes it unsettling.

I think part of it (for me anyway) is that as much as he falls in love with Hawke it isn't instant!love.

In the friendmance my assumption is that Hawke and Anders are friends who flirt with each other and eventually fall in love, but Anders is really resistant to the idea of getting involved because 1) he thinks of himself as a monster/ Hawke doesn't know what he's capable of, 2) Hawke is a good example of a free mage and he doesn't want to taint that/ Hawke is good to apostates and he doesn't want to see him/her hang for it, 3) the cause is first with him, and he doesn't want to break Hawke's heart because of it.

Having never done the rivalmance I can't comment as extensively on it, but my guess is it goes something along the lines of him being conflicted about wanting someone whose decisions he can't stand.

Edit: @ Trophonius, I think Anders spends a lot of time with his hand regardless of who Hawke is, neither Pseudocognition's Faron (ginger!Hawke) nor yukidama's ... name escapes me, are particularly scruffy.

Oh yeah, I'm sure of that. I'm just quoting him on what he says about male Hawke. He thinks they all have scruff. It's most likely just to differentiate between male and female.

Heh my first cleanshave Hawke found that amusing. The rest of my Hawke all do have stubble so it fits. :P
