Sooooo.... has no one made the comparison between Anders and Miguel from disney's Eldorado?

media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lgyhufUzRi1qfymen.gif

Just sticking it out there....

Aww, El Dorodo is one of my favorite films (the HoYay, man, oh the HoYay) and this totally never occured to me. And m!Hawke can totally be Tulio!

It's the lute. The lute just makes it for me. Dunno how to make the .gif show up though. Damn this link!

Do the IMG tags work?

Yep, there we go. :D For future reference, just use [ IMG ] without the spaces.

Surely that is unnecessary - it clearly is Anders. He's playing the lute and everything.

2) I was re-listening to the femHawke dialogue by m!Hawke and I saw another video with Anders' rivalry dialogue. I don't know if this was already posted and I missed it, but it's the saddest thing I've heard in the game and it will absolutely break your heart. I know people use this as an excuse to kill Anders, but man it just makes me want to save him even more. He's so desolate, so without hope...I really don't know how I'll ever be able to rival him if he sounds like this after the patch (not that I've succeeded in rivaling him yet; I'm too pro-mage).

I've rivalmanced being pro-mage, but Anders (or the game) doesn't recognize it :P

I remember I've heard before only the "I still love you Anders..." and Anders answer to that.
I missed this whole version...but I have to say it...Sebastian? Again? Even in this moment?! This guy talks too much in that scene, I still cannot stand it.
Varric should have dragged him away to shut his mouth, really.

I plan to side with the mages in my rivalmance, but I want the right dialogues so I am still waiting at the start of Act3 :\\ I can't kill him anyway, my Hawkes are selfish that way, they prefer to keep him by their side and help him. After all they kinda lost their family and it is not like tha Chantry and the Templars were blameless...

Look at that skillz. Hawke just doesn't appreciate it. Anders is clearly a pro musician, Hanwke has just bad tastes in music.

Well, part of the rivalry path dialogue is bugged in the game. I think this is what it's supposed to sound like, but it doesn't completely trigger. Or it got cut. I guess we won't know for sure until 1.03 drops (which will supposedly fix the Anders' rivalry ending).

And yes, Anders totally rocks the lute. I love how Miguel's eyes are crazy and unblinking, too. You just know that's how Anders' gets when he plays music. He brings the crazy no matter what the moment.

Hello lovely thread, I'm back in the UK and can finally indulge in all-day forum discussions yay! (Procrastination is good for the soul)

I totally LOVE Miguel from Road to El'Dorado, and just cause I'm an animation student and it matters to me I have to say it - it's NOT a Disney film! It's one of the few successful dreamworks 2D animations lala anyway!

Anywho, my personal favourite comparison is with Howl from Howl's moving castle. He is a blond mage (who sort of made a deal with a demon/spirit) AND who just wants to be free. ^^ And I can't get the image of Anders with a patchy pink-gray cloak and green earrings out of my head!

Argh this just hurts me so much. It's unfair you can only make him realise a war might not be the best thing to do if you rivalmance him AND you side with the templars. It doesn't even make sense to me, how is slaughtering everyone in the circle going to PREVENT this war he's started? I don't know it just feels too much like hoping two wrongs will make a right.

Howl!Anders...it must be done...lol dammit Ninche, I can't get it out of my head now either!

To bolded: That is how I see it as well, and to me it feels totally OOC, I can't see Anders doing it. Others might be able to, but I just can't reconcile those actions with Anders feelings, that he has made known throughout the ENTIRE game. But that's just me.

mmm, well the point is that justice started the war - not anders. this could totally lead to another debate on how entwined j and a are, but anders feels the need to mitigate the bad deed

Too many pixel crushes in one thread - I totally adore Howl

The rivalmance ending sounds so horrible, how on earth could you do it? You're all braver souls than I! Actually the whole rivalmance seems brutal, I tried out the Justice quest with my friendmanced Hawke refusing to help and Anders didn't flip out at me. Do you only get that on the rivalmance path?
(But rivalmance with Fenris totally works... until Anders swoops in).

As for Anders siding with the Templars... the only thing they could hope to accomplish would be a divine march on Kirkwall? I take it the other circles all still rebel even if you turn templar? I can't imagine the dev's changing the outcome so totally if you can get Anders to switch otherwise why was Cassandra there?

Oh god, Howl!Anders....as if I didn't love either of those boys enough on their own! XD

I really really do not like the idea of being able to force Anders to side with the templars. His entire purpose in the game is essentially to support the mages. Merrill I can understand supporting templars because she's just pro-elf. Fenris I can get helping the mages - but my only playthrough has been mage!Hawke, so that makes sense to me (mage!Hawke is his first friend and a mage and it makes sense that she could get his help - he's not turning on her!).

But Anders...if he can't stop Justice from blowing up the chantry to save mages or whatever, how the hell can he stop Justice tearing Hawke a new one for making Anders kill mages? I mean, yes, everyone in Kirkwall is a blood mage and you do end up killing most of them regardless of which side you pick, but I really can't see Anders volunteering to support templars. Hell, even DAA Anders would have trouble helping templars!

There's just some things characters cannot or at least should not accept. Wynne won't allow the violation of the Ashes. Alistair will never accept Loghain as a brother Warden. And Anders should never fight against the mages.

But that's just my opinion XD Half caused by the fact its past midnight here and I really should be sleeping!

He did run when he was an apprentice, though. Isn't that the story Finn tells in Witch Hunt? They were allowed to go swimming until Apprentice Anders Ruined It For Everyone by outswimming the templars?

If he was Harrowed when he was 18/19, that still gives him 7-8 years for six attempts (assuming he only made the one before his Harrowing) and his year in solitary.

And Awakening is only a few months, max. It still doesn't fit that comfortably in  the timeline, considering there's a 6 month gap between the Archdemon being slain and Awakening, but I've just come to accept the fact that time is screwed up in Thedas and I should just roll with it. One less thing to worry about when writing!

Damn!  [edit edit edit]  I could have sworn he was taken at 14 and I had him depressed and relatively accepting until after the Harrowing when nothing improved and he just got sick of it.  This is what happens when you don't read the supplemental material.  But the number of attempts and the year in solitary (and, one presumes, punishments after earlier attempts) still add up to later 20s in Awakening.

But I see time for Awakening by adding in the travel time in DA2 from the depths of the blighted Wilds to Gwaren and then securing passage and sailing across to Kirkwall.  That all takes an awful lot of time on foot and in a time when everyone and their brother is trying to book whatever space is available on any boat leaving town.

And Awakening must be taking place while Hawke is traipsing around Kirkwall for a year that we don't see.  It isn't until after that that we meet Anders, after all.  He just made good time from Amaranthine.  <_<

When you do, you won't be dissapointed. I played KOTOR and DAO first before I even heard about ME, then I copped out and bought ME1 and Me2...I was literally blown away. Space Opera/Odessey is awesome.

I wonder if some of the reason for allowing Anders to side with the templars is because some people were furious with Alistair for putting his foot down about Loghain. I DON"T UNDERSTAND WHY HE"S NOT COOL WITH ME SPARING LOGHAIN, GUYS.
I could understand being mad about Alistair leaving Ferelden instead of fighting the Blight, but him wanting Loghain dead and definitely not in the Wardens shouldn't be a surprise.

I mean, that's kind of a lame reason, but it's the only one I can think of right now. Maybe it will make more sense when we can see the entire rivalry ending.

Just did Anders' personal quest in Awakening the other day. I love it. Rylock thinks the templars can overrule the Wardens and is dumb enough to go after Anders despite a) the ruling monarch agreeing to the Conscription and B) the fact that taking Anders would require going through the Warden Commander and at least two other people, all armed to the teeth.

Plus she looks weird. Her eyes are huge.

EDIT: Confirmation of Story DLC in the future.

This may very well be the case, but I'm still not sure it makes sense with Anders. I mean, I'm happy it's in there for those who want it. Personally, I can't bear to rival Anders anyway, so I probably won't ever see it in actual gameplay. But I agree with others that I think the anti-templar thing is too ingrained in him and that Justice is too strong and prone to taking control to ever let him fight at their side. Maybe he might manage to regain some control just for the Gallows, enough to keep his lover alive, but afterwards I see him either committing suicide or losing control permanently to Justice.

At least in the friendship path, I think there's a chance he can regain a bit of control. Yes he and Justice are more intertwined, but their goals are similar enough that Justice doesn't seem to see the need to assume direct control all the time. And Hawke is there to support him and perhaps to keep him grounded. This is all speculation and head-canon, though.
