Dear Anderstians.

This dialogue is only available on the Rivalmance path, correct? And it replaces the scene where Anders is trying to give Varric his pillow?

Or am I missing something? I love that dialogue. >.>

Edit: Yay for random top!

I just can't dislike the guy outright.

Same here. Most of my issue with him actually stems from a dislike of religious preachiness so he was naturally never going to be my favorite. I don't want him dead or anything, and my Hawke doesn't see him as a serious threat either (he only had like, 3 conversations with him that whole time anyway lol).

I never wanted to kill Seb out of dislike. I actually find him likeable, if exasperating. I wanted to kill him out of practicality. Letting him march off to raise an army with the sole purpose of burning Kirkwall to the ground and then hunting someone I've just run off with seems, well silly. Kill him before he gets the chance, one fewer problem for the fugitive. Maybe I'm just cold.

I don't think it's cold. The way I see it is that Hawke's been pushed into a very extreme situation very quickly and has to go into survival mode. I don't see letting Seb live being good for future survival (although future DLC maybe?) so I would have struck down any threat. My diplomatic Hawke goes out of the window as soon as Chantry goes boom because there aren't any other options at that point.

Of the companions Seb ranks at the bottom for me, but even still I find him adorable at times for how much of a goody two shoes he can be. It's just all of that Chantry preachiness of his that makes me want to wring his neck, ESPECIALLY that one conversation he had with Fenris when Fenris was detailing how he saw Denarius kill a slave and Sebastian just shrugs it off. Also wasn't big on that "none of us are free" speech he gave too. I got so frustrated when no one pointed out that having your family give you to the Chantry is totally not the same thing as having templars knock on your front door and drag you off to lock up in a tower.

But mostly I just like to make fun of him because it's well, fun.

That's the same conversation that I reaaallly wanted to slap him over. The "The Maker didn't cause all the bad things that happened in your life but he's totally the reason why the good things happened" doesn't cut it for me.

You (apparently) only get it on the friendship path if you don't already have 100 friendship (which you probably do at that point). You always get it on the rival path.

The rivalry pillow scene is this:

I want a DLC where I can tell Fenris to put his fist through Sebastions chest when he starts prognosticating about everything being the "Maker's Will "

I Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image this shot so much. Seriously, if I could get my hubby to make this face at me I don't think I'd ever leave the house.

As for Seb-Crazy-Eyes, the scene that annoyed me the most was the one where he warns you off Anders in the Chantry. You'd think after nearly 10 years you'd have a good idea that Anders was more committed to his cause than you - I'd hardly call it selfish seeing as he pretty much beat you around the head with THIS WILL END BADLY, so you can hardly blame the boy. It's like he wanted even more punishment because he knew his relationship with Hawke would hurt him in the end too.

Hmm. Interesting. Considering you can max out Friendship before you finish Act I... yeah. Thanks for that, BioWare.

Sounds like I'll have to cheat and keep removing friendship points as I earn them to get it. Yay.

I love Seb as a character, but don't like him as a person. It's the Chantry doctrine that gets me. I'm an athiest and I don't want people telling me that I have to believe in (what I perceive as) their imaginary friends or I'll be damned for eternity.

I have no objection to religious people in general, but I don't like people who preach at me.

ETA I've just realised that sounds a bit hypocritcal, given I love Anders so much, but I don't object to people knocking on my door and asking me to save the whales or contribute to the environment. When the preaching is for something other than saving my immortal soul (which I kind of think is my business) it's not so bad.

While I  still think killing Seb is a bit harsh, I get where a bit of that hate is coming from after doing a playthrough where I hauled him with me just about everywhere to see what he has to say (not a whole lot, as it turns out; he's somewhat more silent than many other companions, and he's super hard to earn rivalry with if you don't want to side with demons all the time, but that's the besides the point). What frustrated me was a dialogue I got between him and Fenris in Act 3, where despite my Hawke being an apostate and supposedly his buddy, Seb has the gaul to talk about drawing lots with Fenris to turn in Anders in Merril. With Hawke and Anders right there listening in. Even Fenris was (roughly) like "Cool it bro, I'm not fan of mages, but Hawke will kill you, fool!"

I just felt like, by this point in the game, Seb should not be thinking about turning on my companions for being mages...when I'm a freaking mage myself. It broke my brain a little bit. The preachiness I didn't mind so much--he didn't seem to spend much time trying to convert Hawke, and he backed down when the companions told him to stop (mostly). He just seems to be, well, an idiot.

We need a slap Sebastian mod, I swear.

^^ This, totally re Seb/ Religion in the game. I love that you can decline to be involved in any of the blessings etc - although Elthina still gives you hers grrrrrrrrrrr. And I do get slightly annoyed with Hawke saying "May Andraste Guide You" once I've stabinated badguys. Apart from that I love that as a non-religious person I can feel like my choices are valid. But I do still see the necessity of the religious language in the game as like in the UK, it is part of the culture even if you don't believe.

Edit to bring it back to Anders
I like the way Anders is portrayed in that he has a loose idea of faith, but can't reconcile it with what he's seen. He might truly have been a lot happier with the Tevinter Chantry. Posted Image

On the topic of Seb, I don't despise him, and I'd assume that in his position I would flip if the murderer of a woman who was like a mother to me was allowed to walk free.
However, if he (a DLC) turns up later on with an army, I swear to you, I will MARDAR BioWare!
*cough* XD

Though he's still annoyingly preachy and seems incapable of independence.
And so much fun to pick on.

Besides I hate Bethany far more

On topic, I wonder where Anders and Hawke ran to...

Nothing worse when they come at 7:45AM in the morning. <_<

I have a HUGE issue with religion. I consider myself agnostic.  I would rather do something that contributes to society, like a clean up litter on the beach, or plant trees than spend my days trying to convert people.

This is how I get when religious people knock on the door when I have not had my coffee............

@Melca My son is amazing. He's 8 months and I've been door-knocked three times since he was born and every time he's started to scream at the top of his lungs as soon as the door is opened. Only ever for religious door-knockers. Suffice to say they back off pretty quick when you've got a screaming child on your hip. Or a vomiting one. That one was PRICELESS.

I'm beginning to wonder if he knows something I don't...

One of the things I first learnt to appreciate about my own religion was that the vast majority (if not all) of its practitioners consider Preaching to be rude and an infringement of another's free-will.

Perhaps I should try screaming: THIS IS AN INJUSTICE!!! at the top of my lungs when they come to the door?

But religious people are so much fun to troll! :U
I remember the first apartment I had, these fundamentalist types used to periodically make the round of the neighborhood and hand out leaflets.
One day, one of them approached me and said, "May I tell you about Jesus?"
"Depends!" I replied, in the cheeriest voice imaginable. "May I tell you about Satan?"
I don't usually mock people for their religious beliefs, mind you, but her facial expression made it allllllll worthwhile. >.>

*snorts*

They always seem to sense when I've worked the night shift too...

I'm a complete and utter **** if people wake me up from my sleep. I'm the type of person who flings the door open and snaps "WHAT!? THIS HAD BETTER BE GOOD!"

And god help you if you're a telemarketer calling me in the morning.

Personally I just look at the Chantry as mideval Catholic, which was a corrupt church with way to much power. Which funny enough had an templar army. That aside my feelings toward Seb were based on his strong faith. But his strong faith was blind.

I have my faith and I keep it close to my heart, but I will never speak of it unless asked as I don't see the point and I am not blind to it.

Also Dreaming why do you hate Bethany so much?

1 - Gonna have to play through as a mage next time so I can avoid Mary-Sue Beth. I sent her to the Grey Wardens the second time in the hope that I'd want to slap her less. It didn't work.

2 - I like to think that they ran to Ferelden first seeing as Alistair was a bit sympathetic. I don't think he'd condone what has happened but I can see him giving them help to go further on - either to the Wilds or to find their way to Tevinter.

I'm confused, I live in Sweden and have gotten visitors telling me about the "mother godess" in shaky English two times in the last 4 months, but not a single Jehovah's witness (edit) over the last 3 years.

I'm disappoint in my indeginous preachers.
