Good luck on the finals by the way. Love how you've managed to study for it and still take the time to update your fic ;D

And as annoying and BORING Leliana can be, at least she has some redeeming qualities where as Sebastian has um... he's pretty?

Aw, thanks! I feel like this board and my silly (and getting to be ridiculously long) fic are providing a decent diversion from studying once all the words just start looking the same on the page. Or when I start to feel like Anders at his manifesto, writing the same damn thing about twenty times wondering if it's going to convince anyone at all.

What is your paper about?

Andersbutt. Posted Image

I have two, one for criminology and one for British Lit. The criminology one is on the corrections systems, mostly dissecting what doesn't work and why, and what might work better. The British Lit one is on randomness in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and White Teeth, proving God doesn't exist and life is a series of random events. Yeah, Leliana and Sebastian would love me. :P

Hahaha, British Lit, mine was just Literature over here ;) Love the sound of the paper though. If you feel like sharing I'd be curious to have a read once it's done. My final dissetation was a beast of a paper combining my Lit & Philosophy courses on the ethics of crime novels. I loved it and hated it in equal measure.

I think the other reason Seb gets under my skin so much is that he just doesn't know what he wants, and is looking for an external force to make the decision for him. But Anders has a driving force and if you friendmance him you help him come to terms with what needs to be done, rather than berrating him into accepting the status quo. I really need to rival Seb next time around... Posted Image

Edit Stupid top whilst at stupid work. Can't post pics from here I'm afraid - next person pls. Posted Image

I would gladly write a paper on the topic of Andersbutt. The legend of Anders having a butt underneath all that cloth, and the likely hood of it existing, various theories on what it might be like and the evidence of its existance...

Andersbutt bu it's very definition is the greatest thing you can think of.
To exist is infinitely greater than not to exist; therefore because it is so great it must exist.
ontological argument ftw. ahh; college days *reminisces*

I think it should be mandatory to study Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels for Literature.
Now that's true British literature!

I should mention my Lit class is 20th Century British Lit. I've also taken the standard Chaucer and Shakespeare and Milton classes, too, but it was damn enjoyable to read Douglas Adams and Alan Moore along with Conrad and and Woolfe. And I totally suggested we read Terry Pratchet at some point.

Er...Andersbutt.

Haha I love you <3

Hopefully I'm not too late to jump in, we're trying to keep this thread alive yes?

I didn't hate Leliana in Origins at all, I sort of just ignored her religious babbling and didn't care enough about her opinion to try and argue or whatever. But my boyfriend HATED her guts, in DA2 he loves Sebastian and I can't stand his little puffy face -.- It's funny because before I started DA2 for the first time I made all these decisions about what my Hawke would be like so I went all SUPER atheist, hates templars, hates the chantry etc. - I had no idea It'd be this relevant.

And as for papers and such, I'm thinking of changing my dissertation topic to something about storytelling which makes the audience/player feel involved enough to struggle with fictional decisions while exploring social issues through a fantasy narrative or some crap like that, just so I can basically write about Anders and the Chantry Jenga.

On the topic of your SO and DA2, I'm assuming he finished it since you said he let Anders live. How did he find the game over all?

Edit: filling in the for the ToP, but also because I want to make people cry:

When I made him DPS I did.  I was going spirit healer so Justice got to come out and play alot.  There was a lot of bonding, through killing templar's.

Also I really wish they would have re-did his battle cries.  So many times I was to yell to my screen "But you're a healer!!!"

Ach he sort of hated it actually <_< It obviously affected him emotionally because he'd tell me to stop talking about it only to start himself later, he was struggling to figure out if what Anders did was the RIGHT thing to do or not, but he rejected most of my arguments as being way too subjective since "you love that pixelated man". I think what pissed him off the most is that you esentially kill everyone who were going to rebell against Meredith because.. well because you showed up at their meeting and... they don't like brunettes?:pinched:. Which, I admit, was annoying. I wanted a scream I AM ON YOUR SIDE YOU BLOODY IDIOTS option.

So yeah, eventually he just declared that the last act didn't make sense and random stuff would occur regardless of Hawke's involvement or deicisions and that we didn't have enough information to properly judge if what Anders did was necessary or not. He did esentially want to execute Anders, but in a public trial so the public could see the terrorist punished and realise it wasn't an all-mages decision. But since he didn't have that option he let him live.
The only thing that properly frustrated me was that he honestly believed Elthina would have taken the mages' side eventually so it was stupid to kill her. Sigh

How the heck did he reach that conclusion? She makes it pretty clear she believes neutrality is the only position available. She was so staunch about it, I just wanted to shake her and say, "You could actually stop this instead of waiting for the Maker to intervene when even your own dogma says he won't." Instead I settled for calling her stupid and ineffectul, but still...

Errr... she promoted Petrice. She's hardly neutral, I think behind all her wishy washy non-commital blah blah, she'd come down on the side of the templars/ zealots everytime. She has to protect the Chantry and the ideals it stands for, which is why nothing comes back to her yet Petrice gets promoted for what I presume is her actions with the Qunari. She's like the legitimate front for a crime business, everyone knows she's behind it all but her hands are clean - like the Borgia pope (yeah, watching that atm and LOVE IT). She says that the Qunari are a problem, basically sets the wheels in motion with a good idea of what Petrice would do, and can then deny any involvement/ idea of what was happening.

So no, I don't think she'd ever side with the mages. The only time she confronts Meredith is when Meredith puts her in a position of having to make a visible choice. I think Elthina would quite happily let all the mages be annulled just to cover up the crazyness and then promote Meredith away to Orlais. So I feel incredibly sorry for Anders when he has that moment when he tries to talk to her again, you just know it's not going to make a blind bit of difference. Posted Image

Oh I reacted the same way, believe me. I said that nothing from
her actions up to this point indicates any inclination towards mages at all. I
think his argument was that during the last Orsino/Meredith confrontation when
Meredith wanted to arrest him Elthina interfered and essentially saved him from
Meredith which, apparently, indicates that if Meredith goes too far Elthina
will stop her.
But then I was like “Elthina failed years ago when Meredith
started making mages tranquil post their harrowing for the first time and she
failed to say: Hold on, that’s against our rules and is illegal and you are a
crazy ****” and has been failing ever since.
It’s Elthina’s job to watch over both templars and mages and protect
their rights, she has been failing at that for like 7 years, if there’s nobody
to watch over their watchmen what are mages supposed to do and how long do you
wait for Elthina to do something?

I try to remember that it was his first playthrough and he
obviously doesn’t remember little details and conversations and hasn’t been
arguing about it on forums for months like I have. So I agreed to
disagree ;)

Edit: @ElleMullineux: Hehe I'm actually going to copy paste what you said in a fb messege for him right now.

Elthina really bugs me, the way she treats everybody like a child.
"Oh would you "escort" the first enchanter back to his prison cell the Circle. Gently."
"Go back to the Gallows Meredith, like a Good Girl." *facepalm* much?
"My, you certainly have quite the estimation of my abilities(!)"
(I wish Hawke could have answered "My, you certainly have quite the desire to receive a stone-fist to the face")

-Elthina promotes Petrice, who is clearly antagonising the Qunari.
-Refuses to leave Kirkwall even when the Divine herself is telling her to leave, and there is a threat of an exalted  march.
-Antagonises Meredith (insane Templar Knight-Commander), Orsino (who has taken to rallying pro-mage seeches) and Hawke (the only other person standing between them)
-Ignores the biggest pro-mage figure in the city.

Face it, she just WANTS the City to explode.
It was her plan all along.

Hehehe I see everything in my life through DA2 coloured glasses now, I actually take pleasure in using Anders expressions and quotes at people who obviously know nothing about DA and would never ever know, and I am totally rivalmancing right now, I seem to be at the "I don't know if I want to kiss you or kill you" stage

@Dreaming-in-Shadow: Agreed 100% I can't stand her and the way she treats everyone. I think she pretty much lost me at :

-See how the maker saved ferelden from the blight?
- Err, that was my other mage char
-See? Even a MAGE can sometimes do the will of the maker
- Sigh

I'm sure Arion would be thrilled to know that the Maker is taking credit for his work.

Oh, and FYI Chantry:
1) The Fereldan Circle was overrun by abominations
2) The Templars were useless.
3) The "lost cause" of the Circle was resolved by three mages and an assassin.
4) The Maker chose me, an atheist, free lance elven mage to save the world. Not your templars.
5) You FAIL. Love Warden-Commander Surana.

That mage comment just further implies she's not a neutral as she seems.

Hehe my Origins canon is a Surana as well. I was SO thrilled when I bumped into Warden Alistair and he was like "here's a pendant from a friend of mine I'm sure she'd like you to have it" and I was like *GASP* :o and then <_< - it was something like + attack and strenght or whatever and we are BOTH mages! Really Alistair? -.-

So do you think we'll actually get to play with our wardens again in the next game or w/e? :) Whatever they come up with I hope there's some way to romance Cullen, the guy needs some mage lovin' in his life.

To be fair, Alistair looked at a person in a robe with a staff strapped to their back and asked: "Are you a mage?"
Must be the templar training.

I prefer it when he says "This belongs to the love of my life - but she finds things like this all over the place."
Maybe the Warden-Commander is secretly insulting Hawke?
For stealing my spotlight, I'm gonna clog up your inventory with useless junk!

I don't think we'll ever play our Wardens again. :(
I want more Zev romance. Moar.

Getting the Warden as a companion would also be cool. XD
Cullen in DA3. Yes please.

Better yet, play as Hawke and the Warden!

DA3 companions list:
1) Anders + Pounce
2) Zevran
3) Oghren
4) Alistair
5) Wynne
6) Varric
7) Cullen
8) Nathaniel
9) Jethann
10) Carver

I've been thinking about this, as so many of the characters can be killed off/ never recruited it would be difficult to bring them back in any major way - unless it goes a bit like ME3 and if Shep is dead someone else takes their place?
I did wonder if you'll eventually end up with all your wardens/ heroes/ champions as companions with a mega new PC. I don't know how that would work with the save games though as it would have them make choices/ dialogue options that might not be your version of them. Posted Image

Hehehe I was thinking maybe for DA3 they will try two parallel timelines spilt narrative, sort of like the Two Towers, first 11 months of Aragorn Hawke doing stuff and then the same 11 months but of Frodo the Warden running around - and now and then and they interact with the same places and people but never actually meet.

Oooooh... that would be interesting, but I still think you'd need a core character that followed the whole way through otherwise I could see newcomers to the game getting mightily annoyed.
I'd love to be able to play my rogue Warden Queen with the new game mechanics though, I love how much more fluid it is.

I wonder how they'll bring Anders back into it if you've let him live/ run off with him. I kind of want him to have a massive influence but I can't see that being possible if you've been able to kill him.

(Although on the evil de-bugged rivalmance ending he does say something about Justice rising up from his body which to me at least suggests whilst Anders might be dead, Justice won't be... so he might be around in some form. :s)
