Don't remind me. Anders/Karl's relationship is such a tragedy. From beginning to end, it was doomed. Two mages who fell for one another under the supervision of the Circle? Yeah. Especially when Anders said how it hurt him to have it happened. Damn those templars indeed. I think that's one reason why I enjoyed antagonizing the templars and told them to shove it.

Oh dear god, I have NOT been so intensely involved with a story since I was about seventeen and reading His Dark Materials or something! I thought making a game TOO good would be impossible, but well done, Dragon Age writers, you have caused me to cry myself to sleep and played with my wrenched heart until I didn’t know what was right or good anymore, what was just or necessary. I salute you, BRAVO!
As for Anders: I was so upset when he lied to me about the potion and then used our love to blackmail him into distracting the cleric. And then he had to blow up the damn Chantry. WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME ANDERS??

I didn’t have the heart to kill him, but I couldn’t run away with him either – and not even because I disagree with his moral choices and courses of action (I’m so emotionally drained I think my emotions switched off to preserve sanity) but because he went behind my back, didn’t share with me, and that’s not what partners do! I just feel like even if we were to run away together he will always do whatever he thinks is necessary first, and not care about what I think, I will have to follow him around, and if I disagree with his methods he will accuse me of not loving him and then throw something like “I was always alone, I just forgot for a while” ARGH DAMN YOU ANDERS!
I demand a DLC in which they invent a crazy tevinter ritual of going back in time and preventing stuff from happening. Make someone else blow the damn thing up, I want a happy ending!
On a quick note, just to make sure I’ve ranted thoroughly, the voice was odd at first and felt strangely constraint, but man, whatever that man didn’t show in the dialogue he made up for in kissing sounds! I think I actually stopped breathing for the duration of it and my palms started sweating, wow! Talk about impact on my real life.

Yeah, he does say it. "No mage I know has ever dared to fall in love. It is a rule I will cherish most breaking", I think. However, the initial conversation you have with him shows that he's still grieving over Karl and tells m!Hawke that he was his "first". It went something like this, "Karl and I....he was the first. Out in the world, we could pretend that we weren't just slaves to the templars. He and I hadn't been together vey long. But still, it hurt." I took it to mean that he loved him in some way.

He does but it doesn't mean they didn't have a meaningful relationship. Karl was important to him in one way or another.
