Oh lalala... I'm replaying Origins (omg, Zevran is so much more awesome than I remember) and I come back here to discussions of wardens (and kids, eep).

Elf mage (female) warden would be good at training, but kids are not in her future. I think her and Alistair (grey wardens for life since he won't marry her grrr) would make awesome parents but they're way too dedicated to the grey wardens and saving the world for them to ever have a normal family life. The recruits are their kids, lol. But I'd totally trust Lorelei to babysit or take care of a kid... for a short time.
Human mage (female)... uhmmm no. Kids are definitely not for her, what with being a blood mage and only killing demons cause she likes to kill not because she's really against demons and possessions. If Jowan wasn't around, (Chani totally wanted to see the blood ritual and check out the fade again) Chani would have killed Connor with no remorse. She should not be allowed around kids. She snarkes at them and beats them over the head if they don't go away. LOL Plus Zevran doesn't seem the paternal type, but awesome to teach the facts of life to a teenager!!!!

True, but if did boil down to never seeing the child again or subjecting them to a brutal life on the run with the possibility of watching them die, which would be the better option?

You know this is Anders we're talking about, right? When has he ever picked the "better option"?

The best option would be to wrap the **** up. I'm sure Anders learned a little something to keep the brats away from the Circle.

Yeah... I forgot about that for a moment.
...Hawke may not be safe when she goes behind his back to protect her child...

You assume Anders is capable of that kind of rational thinking. I have no such faith. This is a man who blew up a Chantry and then said "this...is not what I expected." If he would drown Hawke and himself in blood to keep Hawke safe when they're still just friends, imagine what he would do to keep his child by his side.

Also this is the man who wanted to bring justice to every mage who had ever been ripped from his mother's arms. I don't think he would inflict that on his own child, even if it meant a lifetime of running.

Was that rival!mance?  I don't recall him ever saying anything like that, but my playthroughs are...incomplete.

Also, are you people totally missing the bit at the end where Anders talks about him and f!Hawke having children that will live free!  He's totally all for having kids!

Ya, I think Anders/Hawke use some kind of magical contraception. Barrier spells or something.

I have this outlandish idea that having a child would some what soothe Justice and Anders.  Mostly Justice.  Seeing something so delicate and know that in a sense the child is "his"  It might make not want to put him and Anders in such dangerous and reckless places/positions because he would want to return to him/her so he could protect them from the injustices of the mortal world.  Also would spur him to fight for mage rights so Anders and Hawke could raise and love thier child without care.

Also my Warden is Queen so he/she would be fine.  Or thier baby could be with my City Elf and Alistair in Amaranthine with company hanging out with Wardens with cool and all that jazz.  And godfather(makerfather?) Nate teaching him/her all sorts of awesome archery goodness.  While godfather Varric tells him/her epic stories of mom and dad(yeah thats right Varric is in Amaranthine!)

My male Cousland is married to Anora.
Since he has dark hair and roughly the same colour eyes as Anders, the kid could pass for the child of Cousland and Anora.
It'd be interesting, nontheless.

I feel sorry for any kid raised by Mahariel and Alistair. XD

But I like the idea of a child raised amongst the wardens in Amaranthine.
Nate can teach archery...
Surana can teach the child to control their magic if they're a mage...
Oghren can teach him/her to swear...
Sigrun would be the best aunt ever!
Velanna... could teach the kid how to act like a b*ch when the circumstances demand it! XD

Also I don't see them giving the child up completely just "Watch over him until this is over and if we parish...love him/her as if they were your own."

I pray that those are just theoretical children.

Pray.

Because I agree that Anders having kids is THE WORST THING EVER and I'd hate to know that he wants them, even as sad and crazy as he is.

Nope, 100% friendmance (I've never been able to rival!mance anyone). It's the bit right after he gets off his naughty box and you're heading towards Lowtown, every memeber of the party has something to say there (IIRC) and that's one of the things he says.

Ohlawd if my Anders-mancing Hawke ever had kids, and if she sent them to the Vigil... Maker help us all. Cousin Amell is not the kind of person you want around the young and impressionable.

Although I just had this mental image of Mouse entertaining Hawke's offspring (...Hawkespring?) with sock puppets, and almost fell out of my chair.

I'm also in the theoretical children camp. Because Dad!Anders is a horrible idea. It's sweet that he wants them, because all he ever really wanted was a mostly normal life and that's kinda part of the package, but by all that's holy he should NEVER have them.

Heh. I think he was being metaphorical, as in mage children in the future will be free from the circle...

Though I don't think m!Hawke get's that line...

My initial reaction was like: "What!? Kids!? Anders...? You realise that this is the worst possible time to mention this? Couldn't you... I don't know, go for something  little less dramatic like proposing marriage!?"

(No, I wouldn't want him to propose at the Gallows.)

I'm just going to say those are metaphorical children and not even he would be so stupid.

Then I'll play faghawke just to be extra safe.

Ah, okay. In that case, the bit of dialog I think you're referring to, is Anders saying he didn't expect you to spare his life.  That's not so bizarre. I thought you meant he was saying he hadn't expected the fallout that came of exploding the Chantry.

Hehe, my intial reaction was: *blank stare* *freaks out* - I even stopped playing, did another playthrought, and then finished this one
Edit: *sudden realization* Yeah, that's a bit pathetic...

Which is precisely why if they ever accidentally conceive, Hawke is going behind his back, giving the child up to her brother and then engaging in the most horrific screaming war Thedas has ever seen.
Hopefully Carver will be across the border by that point.

Yeah, I think Anders mentions children for rhetorical effect. Not to say that he could never want children ever, but I really don't think he was having the baby discussion with f!Hawke there.

He is referring to the fallout. It's an ambient dialogue line. Every other character that can trigger something there is talking about it too.

I don't think he would bother proposing.  By that point, I doubt there's any Chantry in Thedas that would marry 'em.

Also, here's one fer ya:  Say you're playing a non-mage to Mr. Sparklefingers.  What with his magey senses and all, and his added Justice powers, maybe he says what he does about children because he's aware that Hawke's already carrying a third (or, because this is my fantasy, a third and a fourth passenger).  It'd be totally awesome for Anders to realize Hawke's pregnant before even she does!

My Wardens would be fine with that.
Not so sure about Queen Anora though...

I... don't see a child scenario going well for Hawke and Anders.
Keep the kid with them, and what kind of life will that child have?

But I don't see Anders being very willing to give his child up (on most days of the week), while my Hawke at least, would be trying to secure a proper life for her child, well away from their unstable mother, unstable abomination-father and the running-away from the Chantry scenario (she sort of lived that once).

The arguments would be, as I said, horrendous.
