I find this image from earlier in the thread is the best contraceptive in Thedas. It's the first place my brain goes when people bring up Andersbabies.

EDIT: What an unfortunate post to find its way to top. Have this as a prize.

All Anders really wants is baby cats.

Let's close our eyes and pretend that friendmanced Anders is calming down after the Chantry goes boom and the get out of Silent Hill.

...er. Kirkwall. oh screw it, I've said it before and I'll say it again: They're the same thing.

Who's Pyramid Head!?!

I suppose it depends on who's hell it is, right? So uh...Hawke, right? Since he is the manifestation of James' perversions, to put it simply, then Kirkwall!Phead would be the manifestation of Hawke's...

Maybe I'm getting too deep into this. How about Meredith and her lyrium sword? ;)

...just what the hell does that imply for Hawke!?

ROFL I meant those somewhat as independent thoughts, but now I have a horrible image in my head of Hawke hiding in a closet and Meredith and...templars and...okay I'm going to just go beat my head against a wall.

On the whole "Silent Hill" thing...wouldn't Fenris qualify? I mean, he runs around with a big-ass sword, and a couple of them even look like carving knives.

In the friendship path you don't get the stuff about the blackouts so I presume they're from Justice assuming direct control because Hawke has spent years berrating him on the rivalmance path. Which is one of the reasons I'd find it very hard to rivalmance him. He's not the original person any more, he's become something greater than that. And friendmanced he is more in control and guided. I'd rather Anders know what he was doing, know that it would have terrible consequences and be able to reconcile himself with that - than be having blackouts and losing control to Justice on a more regular basis. On the rivalmance path I'd worry that eventually he'd become an full blow ugly shuffling abomination. :(

Assuming Direct Control.

I love you Mass Effect.

You and I disagree with him becoming greater than he is (To me he's lesser much lesser), as for control well he is more in control on the friendship path. And no you don't spend years berating him on the rivalry path. You can but by no means is it a requirement. (as my snarky warrior Hawke can attest).

I worry on the friendship path he'd eventually become a full blown abomination as well. Only difference I see is that on the friendship path it would be far more subtle and he would welcome the change with open arms.

I'd rather he go out fighting. But of course that's merely a difference in opinion.

Oh? I never listened to a word Wynne said.

Alistair: So you... mentioned you had a son? What happened to him?
Wynne: I honestly don't know, Alistair. He was... taken from me. Such births are seldom, as there are ways to prevent it, but it does happen. And any child born to a Circle mage belongs to the Chantry.
Alistair: I... didn't know. I'm sorry.
Wynne: It's all right. It was a long time ago. A very long time ago.
Alistair: Couldn't you do something about it?
Wynne: Do what? I was weak from the birthing process and there were... no, there was nothing I could do.
Alistair: Do you think about him?
Wynne: All the time.

Isabela's character has more sex than even I can imagine (and I can imagine quite a bit.). Not sure Anders magical treatments can heal her of everything. I think she would definitely suffer from STI...in my head, anyway.

If she weren't using contraception she probably would have become pregnant before she could contract any STIs serious enough to render her infertile in the first place, if she isn't infertile for other reasons. She also lives in a world with magic healing, and is explicitly shown getting an infection dealt with (read: she exercises some amount of responsibility instead of racking up infections and spreading them), so I seriously doubt she's actually the smorgasbord of disease that people seem to want to believe people who like sex are.

Eh, you're probably right. I'm just imagining condoms as the way to keep ick at bay, and I can't see Isabela allowing any barrier to come between her and her lover. Of course, I'm assuming male condoms, and men aren't her preference so....never mind. :P

Lol! Well at least I'm not the only one who doesn't want babies in my RPG. I suppose I have no problem if they're optional, but as I'm not one for kids in RL, I really have a hard time finding motivation for any character I RP to want them either. I know, I'm emotionally damaged. Saved myself thousands of dollars on therapy by just admitting it.

I watched the silent hill movie when I was twenty nine.

... I still have nightmares. *shudder*

On the subject of Anders babies, I have no objection to them, but they'll have to get a move on. He's over thirty (my money is on 36 by the end of DA2) and he's a warden.

Rivalmanced Anders shouldn't be allowed near any types of children ever. But a dad on manic upswing would be very handy for over-energetic three year olds. Not so great for teenagers, but given he's a warden he'll probably be dead by then.

NOTE: THIS IS HALF IN JEST. (my dad was bipolar, I do know what it's like).

Sure they are.  Men, women...actually, I don't think Isabela has a preference at all. But if you're implying that she prefers women over men...well, the game lore strongly disagrees with you.  =P

I'm sure in a world where there's potions able to heal any wounds you receive that it wouldn't be too hard for herbalists to cook up some sort of magical spermicide or even a morning after potion. In fact I bet its their number one seller.

Ah the movie has nothing on the games -- if you like that kinda thing, I recommend everyone play Silent Hill 2 at least once in their life.

As for Andersbabies...well, I've never been much of a baby person. Babies are scared of me because they can smell my fear.

I think my point is, sure, I'd like to have one some day, but I'm so unfit to be a mother and my only problems are graduating into a job market with no jobs and being poor. I can't even imagine trying to raise a kid as Hawke or Anders. For the sake of everyone involved's sanity, I'd say that should probably not.

Plus, Anders' taint is all advanced and ****. Wasn't that the reason Morrigan wouldn't get it on with Riordan?

I think Issy is omnisexual. I guess my impression of her possibly preferring women came from my warden. So, the game clearly indicates she has a preference for men??

I think secretly Morrigan wanted to see if Alistair was as good as the Warden was saying

ROFL, no, not at all.  There IS a third option, you know, which is that she prefers sex and doesn't care who she gets it from.  I don't think she has a preference for one gender over the other, period, lol.  I think the game clearly indicates that she's bi in the truest sense of the word.  Male, female, doesn't matter in the least with Issy.

I have no problem with optional rpg babies, since some people really want them. For my canon Lady Hawke, I can't really see it. The only way I can envision it working- even slightly- is if all the big problems in the world get suddenly magically solved. The mage war gets peacefully resolved before it ever really starts and people decide they suddenly no longer want Anders' head on a plate. Then, since they no longer have to constantly fear for their lives and mages somehow have their freedom, Anders and Hawke could retire to a kitten farm and have a baby. Since I don't see anything like that ever happening, I don't especially want my Hawke and Anders to have children.
