Finally caught up, whew. Apparently the topic of offspring makes you lot chatty!

My Hawke and her Anders are not the parental types, but it would be cool if Aveline and Donnic settled down in a town somewhere out of the way - since Hawke screwed up their lives in Kirkwall something wicked - where they could be guards and raise the most law-abiding children in the Free Marches.
There's also Bethany - warden!Beth has other responsibilities, but apostate!Beth has had a lifetime of experience of getting by undetected and could probably live a relatively normal life somewhere out of the way. If she takes her cue from Anders, setting up shop as a village healer and midwife would help get regular people on her side - and, by extension, the mage's side.
If Carver lives, I reckon he'd make a pretty great dad once he's grown up a little. As a Warden, I could see him marrying someone who already has a kid and helping to raise the child (when he's not gallivanting around the countryside). As a templar, he's pretty much got the whole world to choose from.

With the potential of the other companions... let's just say that if your Hawke likes kids, there's plenty of ways for them to go around doting on children without becoming a parent themselves and putting both the child and Anders at risk.

I also like* the idea that a completely nuts Anders and completely nuts Hawke decide that having a child is the best idea ever, as it would be a Symbol Of The Revolution, and the poor kid gets carted around the countryside and put on display, like religious door-knockers that dress their kids up and drag them around a neighbourhood. Especially if it was a mage itself.
It'd completely **** up the kid's life and give it incredibly skewed ideas about who its parents are and the difference between mages and regular people, much like the way children of cultists are raised, while Hawke and Anders are oblivious to the damage they're doing.

* "like" as in "find it an interesting concept and story", not "like" as in, "think this is a good idea in any way at all".

Oooh, I love this!  Justice was my favorite companion in Awakening, and I was so thrilled when I heard he was going to be in DAII.

I was really sad when I saw how focused he'd become on vengeance in DAII though---All the growth he underwent during the course of Awakening went straight out the window in pursuit of his single-minded goal.  :(

Psh, craft a new nose that can be proud and pointy on its own merit!

AWW YEAHHHHHHYUUUH!

@threeparts I will begrudgingly admit that the idea of Aveline and Donnic having kids is totally adorable to me. That's the best thing about nephews and nieces and children of people you like in general... they're not yours :D

Deviating from the current discussion somewhat but on my latest playthrough I finally managed to get round to having Anders be kidnapped by Grace and her Bloodmagey chums and oh goodness when he said "I'm always happy to see your face, but it seems particularly lovely right now" I just Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image The little 'damsel in distress' comment before it just made the whole rescue extra cute Posted Image

*relurks*

Ooooooooooh.... this!!! I hadn't thought of actually killing off the siblings entirely, but it would make more sense for my canon Hawkette. And I get a cute extra scene with Anders?... Bonus! But now I have at least 2 science playthroughs to do plus a final canon one. My husband will never see me again! :pinched:

Now we need fanart and/or fanfic of Hawke and the gang visiting or babysitting Aveline and Donnic's children.  Aveline will reach epic levels of exasperation.  I can just see a comic in my head of Aveline covering her kids' ears while Isabela tells a dirty story.  Then she'd be yelling at Merrill and the kids as they bounce off the walls on a sugar high.  Then we'd see Aveline glaring at Fenris after Donnic Jr. cut himself on Fen's sword.  Varric would teach them about gambling on card games.

She probably wouldn't mind Anders so much since he'd put the children to sleep with his long-winded rambling about mages' rights.  >_>

Not gonna lie, I think Aveline would make a ****ing awesome mother.
She'd be all encouraging her daughter to beat up any guys that are mean to her, and she would be completely unphased by kids bringing home frogs and lizards and ****, and she'd be all "walk it off" with skinned knees and bumps on the head. Donnic would be in the kitchen baking pies while Aveline is making spaceships out of LEGO seige engines out of blocks.

And there would be freckles everywhere.

And then Hawke will try to touch Anders' junk and there will certainly be problems.

So, show of hands: who in this thread reads The Dresden Files?
Because the more I think about it, the more Harry reminds me of Anders (and vice versa).

It's not even hard to draw the parallels between them- both are idealists who don't like seeing innocent people get hurt. Both are unbelievably stubborn and set in their convictions. Both have become bitter and jaded, thanks to being viewed with suspicion (at best) and outright hostility (at worst) by their Circle's authority figures.
Hell, in Harry's case, Wardens pretty much are Templars, if one ignores the fact that they're mages themselves.
Both have gone through a ****-ton of hardships, from an early age. Both do morally suspect things, on a regular basis, to protect the people they care about and promote what they believe to be 'right'. They cut people out of their lives if they think it's too dangerous to involve other people, which sometimes usually almost always backfires spectacularly. They fall in love at the drop of a hat, even while acknowledging that it's a Really Spectacularly Bad Idea.
Oh, yes. Also, Anders and Harry have another thing in common: they've each had to deal with an unpredictable, dangerous spirit living in their head.

Honestly, you could pretty much slap a duster onto Anders and stick him in a contemporary setting, and I'd hardly notice the difference.

If you haven't read the series yet, I recommend it highly. Jim Butcher is awesome. (If the words "Riding an undead, polka-powered dinosaur down the streets of Chicago" does not make you want to rush out to the nearest bookstore, you are just not my kind of people.)

Right. So this is only Anders related insofar as he likes cats and this is about cats... but kittens running an obstacle course! It's adorable.

@Threeparts: I can see Aveline and Donnic being awesome parents. They're the only normal couple in the game.

I rather like the idea of Carver or Bethany's kids being taken care of by their guncles myself. Or in Anders' case, buncle?

I actually had to look up buncle on urban dictionary... and what it came up with made me laugh in relation to Anders. Guess I'm a racist.

I didn't even know if it actually meant anything. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of 'bisexual uncle', but that urbandictionary description combined with Anders' complexion? El oh el.

The example about Turk just about killed me. Anders = Turk?

"This is the reason why your headache didn't go away: That's actually pronounced analgesic, not anal-gesic. Ser, the pills go in your mouth."

Uncle Anders and Aunty/Uncle Hawke would be awesome! Hawke would teach the kids how to kill in the most flamboyant fashion whilst Anders would teach them how to stay out of trouble on the battlefield so they can deliver healing. Then Anders would bring up the time when everyone else got knocked out and he singlehandidly killed the high dragon, Hawke would get all cross and say that they'd pretty much done it and a strong gust of wind would have finished it off... Cue much bickering and confused looking neices and nephews!

Edited for spelling - stupid blackberry touch on the train grrrrr.

In a completely unrelated note, anyone know that Cordoba poem by Lorca?

The feeling and colors I get from it make me think of Anders post the Justice quest.

That is such a sad poem - but very beautiful at the same time. I still think back to my first playthrough and the Justice quest had me so worried and upset (The last time I'd felt anything like that in a game was the first run through of DA:O when I'd managed to make it so Alistair got carted off to prison. I had to stop and reload. Anyway, back to the Justice quest.) My Hawke did it without really questioning (she'd done a hell of a lot worse for a lot less) so all I knew what that Anders had a large amount of salt peter and wanted to do something to seperate himself from Justice. I then had about 10 hours of game time where I was convinced he was going to blow himself up, but no further quests for him appeared and he'd pretty much stopped talking to you. So to be honest I was a little bit relieved when it was the chantry. Posted Image

I kind of want to try a rival path with Anders (still siding with the mages at the end), how are all the rivalry/friendship bugs doing with act 3 and everything? Should i wait till the next patch to try this play through?

hopefully the rivalry path is being fixed in the next patch. At the moment it still defaults to friendship in act three when you all arrive at the chantry and from then on you get all friendship dialog.

no actual ETA but the dev guy on the support forums estimated it would take as long for the next patch as the first so another few weeks I'd imagine.
