Interesting. I'm sad that the friendmance doesn't have all the interesting manefesto stuff. I like the passion behind all his rants. lol.

I do like that the friendmance allows Hawke to get all "Death to Templars!"-y in conversation with Anders. He seems to get more excited the more Hawke speaks that way.

People are protesting to much about that I think. Like those republican senators who denounce homosexuality as a sin and end up caught with their private parts stuck through a hole in a public toilet wall.

But lol, he doesn't have the sarcastic personality so he has some tact :wizard:

Tact.  Now THERE is something sarcastic Hawke desperately needs.  Funny Hawke is just an utter loony (and I love him/her for it).

Anders: ::soulful and serious:: We could die tomorrow.  I don't want it to be before I tell you how I feel.
Hawke: OOOOOH is it in verse?!  I hope it's in verse!

Right now I'm doing a Fenris romance playthrough and... Anders seems so much more sad when he and Hawke aren't in a romance. Ugh I want to give him a cuddle to cheer him up.

It's a Rivalmance with Fenris so it's okay if I make him angry... right? :D

Fenris: Hawke! What in the Maker's name is going on here?
Hawke: ...Mage-cuddle-time.
Merril: It's ever so nice!
Anders: And I feel less like blowing things up!
Fenris: Remind me again why I'm dating a bloody mage...*+30 Rivalry*

In all seriousness though I really wish there was a way to cheer him up on the playthroughs were I don't romance him... it's making me sad.

Thanks for that.

Seriously though youhave plenty of chances to turn down Anders as a male Hawke. Heck just choosing the snarky option instead of the nice sensitive option means he won't even give you the 2 hearts and one broken heart option.

And everytime I hear "but the broken heart option is homophobic!" no it's not. It's Hawke asking very awkwardly for Anders not to think of him that way. Anders being the emotional person he is overreacts.

No biggie.

Edit: This was towards the subject in general and not you specifically.

BAHAHAHAHAHA. But seriously, they set it up in such a way that you can shut Anders down very early in the game, and in a way that wasn't intrusive for those who did want to take the option.

5, 10, 15 rivalry points are made up easily. Compared to all the god-awful crap Hawke deals with and cannot do anything about, this is nothing

Seriously, this.  If you're pro-mage at all, Anders is probably the easiest companion to max out friendship.  Heck, I usually have him maxed out by the beginning of Act 2, despite picking up rivalry points here and there (like for not killing Idunna, which I never do).  Getting +5 rivalry for shooting him down is nothing.

I think I've found a difference between the Big Sexy Kiss scene for male and female Hawke in the rival-mance.

In the M!Hawke/Anders videos I've seen (I think uploaded by Ryzaki), you get the "kiss you or kill you" line, then Anders says "blah blah, smoldering between us" and the dialogue wheel comes up.  The top right option doesn't actually say anything; it just lets Anders leap into his kiss.

For the female version, the dialogue wheel doesn't even come up.  You don't get the "smoldering" line and Anders gives you the "wake aching for you" line and says something about madness and then GLOMP!  And a dialogue wheel pops up after.

Here are the videos for comparison: Lady Hawke and Man Hawke

The difference is pretty minor, but I thought other crazed Anders fans might be interested.    It's pretty obvious why they did it, since it gives the straight male players one last chance to avoid the kiss, while Lady Hawke has to wait until after the sexy kiss to say "WTF NO".

For the record the second choice says something similar to "I was wondering when you'd notice." before the kiss starts.

I admit, it's a little annoying when so many people complain about being forced to romance Anders. They're not. There's an option that says "No" with a broken heart icon next to it, and it actually works, unlike a certain romance trap in ME1 where the "I'm not interested" option didn't work and there were only three ways to say yes in the next conversation, but it doesn't matter if that conversation doesn't happen because the romance is locked in anyway. I would have gladly taken a million rivalry points to get out of that one. *still bitter about it* After BioWare created a system where romance traps don't exist, which I'm really happy about... people still complain. >_>

Oh, lovely! I will try it, no question. But I get a bit defensive whenever people compare Anders to... that.. other... THING (I will NOT call him a character, I will NOT). If you don't flirt with him right off as a fem!Hawke the dialogue goes like this:

Anders: Kind, wise AND beautiful, you must have made a deal with some demons yourself.... I'm sorry, I shouldn't presume... it's just that we've just met and I feel like I know you. I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable. (I like to think here that Anders had direct and complete control for the first half of the sentence, then Justice stepped in and poked him with a "REMEMBER YOU'RE NOT THAT GUY ANY MORE")
Hawke: (a couple of options here, one which is nice, but the sarcasm one is the most fun if you're looking for Awakenings Anders) Just keep calling me beautiful, you can't go wrong there.
Anders: Oh, I'm sure I could get more creative!

I melted. Pure Awakenings Anders.

If I remember right, those are the options for the "yes", "unexpected, but welcome", and "no" dialogue - and that's the line that happens if you choose "yes." My Kaya Hawke chose the same line.

Hmm thought I'd picked all the options with my fem Hawke. when does he say this is it in Act 1? You said if you don't flirt straight off is it if you miss out the very first one? When I started my non-romance playthrough (so hard) with him (thought I should try Fenris) his dialog was very platonic if I didn't flirt with him so wondering how you got this response.  Sounds much nicer than the "I can't, please don't" speech I got.

It's the first conversation you get with Anders after the one during Karl's mission. I always thought it was awkward to help the guy kill his friend and then flirt with him a few minutes later, so I waited until the next time I talked to him in the clinic. That's when he starts flirting.

You have the option to say "At least he got a nice body" if you don't pick that and pick the olive branch response instead, Hawke goes of on some incredibly nice and wise tangent about not knowing the consequences of your actions, just making them with a true heart (which is a tiny bit sick-making, but hey) and he responds with that flirt.

*chuckles* Because I was trying to avoid RIVAL points, I went through all that (my Anders playthrough I flirted SHAMELESSLY with everyone at first encounter... what a ****ty Mc**** haha)... it was kind of interesting to see and so adorable.  In the end he still goes blah blah this is a bad idea... I made a sad face and agreed :(.  He seemed... relieved.

That is until he started wanting to lynch Fenris over it and said some nasty things... oh Anders, I do think your jealousy is so cute!

Is it bad of me that I find them growling over Hawke sexy?
Tsk, I'm putting women's movement a century behind, sigh.

I thought the "true heart" line was adorable. xD It fits well for Kaya to say that.

How does the conversation go if you choose one of the other options?

If you choose the sarcastic option he gets all angry and justice-y. It's kind of hot. But earns you rival points.

I snorted my pop.  Ouch.
LOL
I've only played templar-side and he is super sad... but he does appreciate the friendship a lot.
Unlike others though, even if you don't have him with you for certain mage quests, he will comment on it when you click all disappointed like.  Oy, my heart!

Aww, I like watching Justice come out and get all glowy. Too bad it happens when Hawke makes him angry. Kaya agrees with him too much for Justice to show himself. (An ironic twist of fate. She likes Justice.)

Which is why it befuddles me that people are still claiming that he ninja kisses you as m!Hawke. There's a caution, warning, and dialogue wheel before it ever happens.

Also, for m!Hawkes, if you don't say anything, he'll instead say "Well. Under that scruffy exterior, I'd say you have a bit of a soft heart yourself" and says that he'll give you as much time to think about getting comfortable with him. Though it sounded a little more suggestive than I remember.

It goes something like
"I had just never considered..."
"Then perhaps I will give you time to consider. In as much detail as you fancy."

That line was adorable. <3

How do you get the "I had just never considered..." line to trigger? I just tried that and Hawke only said "Doesn't mean I want you to stop." instead. Unless this is another conversation?

You have to take the nice body flirt line, I think. Then during the Karl bit you get to ask "Together?" and choose uh, the option that isn't yes or no.

I'm not really sure why they linked the option to ask that question to that flirt in particular, seems to me you should be able to ask regardless.

The first line is for MaleHawke, and the second is for FemHawke. It's just a slight difference in dialogue for the romance start line that isn't a complete yes, but still Hawke showing interest. (It's the option that appears between "yes" and "no" on the dialogue wheel.)

Now I'm a little confused. I haven't seen that line, but I thought it wasn't romance-related, so why is it different for MaleHawke?
