Yup, he totally ruined me for anyone else . Merill feels too much like a little sister to me, Isabella is fine for a fling but I can't imagine being seriously interested in her, even with the (apprently) good heart under the significant bosom, Fenris I used to hate, because of his hatred for mages and his lack of interest in anything but his own wronging - I don't hate him any longer and I'd even like for him to be happy with someone, just not my Hawke. Even if I could get with Aveline I think of her as an older cousin or an auntie now.
And I'm not even going to discuss Sebastian.

I'm currently struggling to ignore Anders in Act 2 long enough to make it with Fenris first, it's paaaainful, I know that passion and panting is just around the Darktown corner but I can't have it yeeet 

Ahaha, I forgot to even mention Seb in my list!  He's so unappealing my brain refuses to remember him.  "The Maker is super great, all suffering is part of his spiffy plan, except for my suffering, obviously, Maker nooooo!"  Yeah, his dialogue and emotional reaction are all perfectly realistic, but that doesn't mean appealing.  I'll take a double dose of crazypants Andersbutt over that!

Whoa. This is a first. You and I both like the same LI? That never happens.

I've tried to romance others, but it never seems to work out. I've got a male PC lined up to romance Isabela, but I'm going to have a really, really hard time passing up on Anders. Maybe this PC will have to be absolutely straight and pursue a bromance with Anders instead.

Also, maybe this was asked before and I just missed it, but, what is the "max" number of relationships you can have in DA2? Can you go Isabela > Fenris > Anders? I figure you can't do both Merrill and Anders, right? And obvi not Seb but I don't even have the DLC for that.

I need to know for, ah...science. And maybe my next playthrough.

To your question, I'm pretty sure the max is 3. Once you start a relationship with either Merrill or Anders I believe it locks out the ability to start others. I have never tried, though, so I'm not the ultimate source of info.

Yeah, I was pretty certain about Anders/Merrill being end all be all, but I was wondering more if it was possible to fit in (giggity) both Isabela AND Fenris before settling, if you will.

You can definitely do them both. I think it has to go Fenris>Izzy>Anders/Merrill. Again, I'm not 100% on that order since I haven't done it, but I do know for sure you can do 3 people in the course of the game.

You can go through all four, it just requires breaking Merrill and/or Anders in two. Emotionally, of course. 

And, to avoid dodginess, get Fenris our of the way first.

You can romance all 4, as long as you kick Merrill out before moving to Anders or vice versa. You have to do Fenris first because he is a big monogamy queen and won't touch you if you've banged anybody else, but the rest you can do whenever, I'm pretty sure.

While ya'll are talking about multiple romances, I'll just put this here:

I actually had a very strange thing happen in current play through in Act 2.  I romanced Anders (no that's not it), had given him his amulet, done dissent, questioning beliefs, gotten my kiss, and my visit, and he was "moving in".  The strange thing was, after I finished A Bitter Pill the heart option for "Don't Go" was there... I didn't take it, I was worried it would mess Anders up some how.  Thing is, I only flirted with Fenris once, in Act 1 during the after recruitment quest talk.  Shouldn't the heart have not been there at all because of that, as well?  Then Isabel showed up at my house with a heart option, and I hadn't flirted with her at all... and there was one available for Merril's Questioning Beliefs, and Sebastion kept having them.  Like I said, I didn't try these, because I didn't want to mess up Anders' Romance.

I thought the hearts weren't available if you had Anders already romanced?  Or do they just give a different reaction?  I don't remember seeing them on previous playthoughs.  Perhaps it has something to do with the patch, or installing Sebastion after the patch rather than before... or maybe I just found the magic "whoopsie" button by accident?

Apparently it was the "let's all try to romance Hawke at once" playthrough...

Huh, that was ramble-y.  Oh well... Anders!

You can sex up all four, but I don't think I'd call all of them a relationship.
Isabela - if you only sleep with her once, it was just for fun and games
Fenris - if he walks away and you move on, it was just a one night thing (that he happens to think about a lot... oh Bioware men, you are so obsessed)
Merrill - okay, that may be an attempt at a relationship... on her part at least cause when it comes to truth time... you break her heart and say you don't want anything serious
Anders - okay, that's ONE relationship.

If you take the option, Fenris will say that for both your benefit he needs to leave.  It doesn't mess up anything.
I guess if Hawke wants to get some Fenris on the side of Anders, she can try... just that Fenris doesn't play that way.

Fenris objects to being two-timed, or Fenris objects to Hawke having had a previous relationship that's now over?  Is it possible to break up with someone before romancing Fenris, or are you forced to two-time if you romanced someone else first?

I understand Fenris has no memories of any previous encounters, and isn't casual about relations, so he can reasonably expect that from his S.O., but does he expect Hawke to not have pursued anyone else in the whole time they've known each other?  What reason does he give?  Does he think Hawke is just after a fling?  I've never romanced Fenris *after* another LI. 

I hope he's not like Sebastian, blergh.  I don't get how Seb can reject Hawke for being non-virginal, given his own drunken mansl*t past.  How does he even *know* if Hawke once made googly eyes at someone?  Is telling Fenris he's handsome, and then not going any further ever, enough to make Hawke impure in Seb's eyes?  Can he read Hawke's memories?
