Ditto.  I watched the arguments with great interest, pretending to be all detached.  But my inner fangirl was doing cartwheels.  Then I played, unspoilered.  I imploded.

I also played unspoilered. It was the first and only playthrough in which I've managed to kill Anders. And then I cried when I got to the credits.

That was thorough! And hysterical

Indeed.  My only quibble is over the timeline.  I think it's tight but it works if you presume a rather lengthy span of time while the Hawkes are making their way across blight-infested Ferelden, finding a ship with room to take them, sailing across the sea, and then working off their year of servitude before they meet Anders.  You could handwave months before they even arrive.  Presuming Anders got there not long before you met him (which is a rather big presumption) it could be made to work, logically.  Barely.

What I find interesting is that the armor Hawke wears marks him as a mage, but Bethany's clearly in the background. Poor Carver. Not even the marketing team likes him.

Well, there was that one video they used that one time as a commercial. Bethany was dead (Hawke went all MAKER NOOOO) and Carver was still there... none of those scenes happened in the game either xD

Ah, I must have missed that trailer. I tried to be careful this time around about seeing/reading too much about the game beforehand. I pretty much got confirmation on m/m romances and then tried to keep from learning anything more since I partially ruined Origins for myself by ferreting through every scrap of intel I could find.

But I do sort of feel like Carver is this game's Jowan. I love him all the same (then again, I liked Jowan too), but he's like the crazy uncle you don't mention at parties. He's never in the family photos and everyone just thinks he looks weird.

Edit: since this is barely on topic, have some Andersbutt.

I think at some point that armor might of been the general champion armor.
But Carver was in one commercial where Beth died. But really the males almost never get any kind of marketing time. Especially the more story centric males. <_<

There's a really cool composite image of all the character concept art for DA2. It includes Cassandra, Flemeth and all of the companions...except for Carver. It makes me think that he was probably a fairly late addition to the cast (or never intended to live past Lothering).

i always liked jowan; he had great character development. it could have been so much better they kept him as a companion

That's marketing for ya. They want to sell to all the straight boys that make up the majority of the market so they advertise with the manly man they can play as and the buxom babes that hang off said manly man. So the female version of the protagonist gets ignored along with the dude companions (who still hang off you if you play a dude but eww gay~~~). It's especially funny with DA2, where you're advertised as like, THE CHAMPION badass extraordinaire superhero man with biceps bigger than your head... and then the game proceeds to completely sh*t all over you
