You know, as much as it isn't Anders to me (and I think with the right eyes it could be close) this is way better than most Anders morphs. Or maybe I see freckles and the part of my mind that decides these things automatically short circuits into WANT.

I'm a fan of rogue LadyHawke too - (the armour is protective yet fetching), plus I get to weild two massive axes/ chopping knives, and we know impressions are important. Plus! She gets to inappropriately raid barrels and crates whilst Kirkwall is falling down around her ears and none of her companions call her on it. Especially if Anders is in the group, I kinda think he should be hurrying her along to help save the mages rather than picking up another bunch of useless crap which she's only going to destroy when her backpack gets too heavy.

Anyway, my point (it's nearly 4am here so excuse the poor typing/ incoherent rambling) is that I agree - more non-mageHawke f-fic needs to exist. I think it brings more balance to the relationship and stops Anders seeming quite so mage-crazy. Plus she then provides some realistic support because we all know mages are squishy close up.

Yeah, i posted that one because "Always Alluring Anders" was just impossible to resist bringing up in some way, but finding it nice morph when viewed just as some character. And i don't have that severe reaction to the freckles so it can't be all that. Posted Image

Anders: Love please we need to get going! Those mages need us!
Hawke: Hang on.  Oh look a scarf!  This goes for three copper.
Anders: You are happy about three copper?  You live in Hightown and you are worried about three copper.
Hawke:  You never know when we might be on the run for our lives and need the coin.
Justice: SHE KNOWS TO MUCH!!

Haters gonna hate on double sparklefingers :P Actually, I had mage Hawke planned out from a while ago, even before Anders was announced (and it took me a good while to care even after Anders was announced). Originally a Lady Hawke mage too! Some things got changed up in between then and release date but mage ended up being the most fun class for me so mage it is. I think all the dynamics have interesting angles to them and my only attachment to mage lies in being able to shoot lighting (and fire, and ice and earth) at fools. I care more about the character's actions and personality than their weapon style when it comes to couples that "balance" each other out.

Then again I don't read fanfic (bordering on I hate it unless it is crackfic) so it is largely irrelevant to me. My Anders pairing bias lies elsewhere anyway, and it's not related to class

My mage!Hawke was kind of a boring person. (And no, I can't change her personality, it's just who she is). Also she couldn't pick locks. Hence my preference for my rogue!Hawke, who had a much more awesome personality. And could pick locks.

Well, that's why I said a character's personality matters more. Your mage happened to be boring. I like my mage. Someone else's rogue may be a snoozefest to them but you found yours interesting. class isn't indicative of a character's personality which is why I personally don't ascribe much to "class A belongs with Character B".

All my characters I have completed so far have been mages because I think they're awesome to play now. So Anders has had 2 of my characters and the dude mage shacked up with Fenris. If I started a warrior Hawke Anders would probably get them too.
If I can ever get past Act 1 with a class other than mage. I've been having a hard time accomplishing that.

I want to read fic, especially Anders fic, but I was burnt out on mage/Anders way before DA2 came out. It's kinda how a lot of people just don't care for Alistair/Cousland. There is absolutely nothing wrong with mage/Anders, but it doesn't appeal to me and non!mage/Anders just doesn't get enough love in art and fic, IMO.

Honestly, I just don't get the class thing if the character is interesting enough. I don't understand it, but I get that people have preferences. It's just when people start saying that a dynamic is more interesting than another based solely on class and regardless of the personalities and actions of the people involved that I get confused and have to disagree.

But again, I don't bother with fanfic so I am admitting that this issue isn't a fanfic related one as much as what is in the game and general feelings about character dynamics/relationships in fiction.

I'm the same.  I love playing a mage but mage Hawke and Anders OR Fenris has been done to death just like Cousland was.  FWIW, I did an Aeducan/Alistair pairing that turned into Aeducan/Anders.  I never did publish any of the former except a little one-shot but the other just got to the juicy bits on my blog this week.

Edit: Yuki, my preference isn't so much class-based as invetiveness based.  I love to read what other people have for head-canon but so often it plays off the same few issues.  I want more variety!

That might be the crux of the problem. After a while, the same pairing gets boring to read about, even if playing a mage is awesome.

I guess I just don't see the "done to death" thing because the extent of my Dragon Age fannish adventures end here, and this thread hasn't really been especially forceful in any particular way regarding "so-and-so ~belongs with and works better with~ Anders". Unlike.... a certain other thread whose name I will not mention that has always had a clear and overwhelming UR DOIN IT RONG biases.

Rogue Hawke/Mage Anders for the win for me...especially with that DLC pack. :wizard:

I've always been a Cousland/Teagan Fanatic/fetishist

My only problem is I have one DA:2 fanfic in me....and it has to have Carver in it.  Bethany is a bore. So my hawke will be a mage in it.

Re: Bolded. I think this thread pushes EVERYONE belonging with and working better with Anders. Especially Meredanders/Anders.

And as this is the only character thread I pay any attention to, I have no idea which "UR DOIN IT RONG" thread you're talking about, but I think I can probably hazard a guess. I'm aware that there's a particular group of fans who are... very dedicated.

I wasn't even talking about what people do in their games to begin with. Unless it has a direct effect on Anders as a character (so rivalry/friendship) I don't seriously care. I have my preferences and other people have theirs and that's awesome, as long as nobody says things like "I think my [insert preferred class/sex/pairing] is totally canon!".

I was talking only about fanworks and what I like to see in them. I don't actively dislike any pairings (except for Anders/Fenris), but there are usually thematic and characterization differences between mage Hawkes and non!mage Hawkes and I've found that I prefer the latter. That's all. It's literally no different from preferring to read m/m or liking Alistair with a dwarf or an elf over a human.

ETA: But I can admit that an awesome plot or strong writing will win me over every time. One of my favorite DA fics is a Loghain/Cousland AU, and I do not care much for Loghain at all.

I almost died laughing. I am playing and my oma walks over and during the cut scene where Anders says he is sorry for going on about Justice and she says.
"Is this the man who blew up said church in game yes?Oh he is how you say sexy man? His voice is nice too. Why no men like that here? I can see why you like him, I would start a freedom fight with him too if I was younger. Maybe I play game too hmm?"

I also think my soul died.

Oh oma I love you.

I agree with both bolded statements.  Like yuki, I very rarely read fanfic and when I do I prefer the crack variety.  However, when I'm skimming the kink meme for something funny or sexy to read, I get tired of reading mage Hawke/Anders pretty quickly.  Nothing wrong with that pairing at all (both of my mages are Anders-lovers), but in fanfic the mage Hawkes tend to be even more Sue-ish than your average fanfiction main character (which is still a lot... SUES, SUES EVERYWHERE).

(I also get tired of sifting through the Sebastian prompts and fills... damnation, I feel like half the kmeme is just Seb stuff.  Gah.)

The old woman scares me sometimes.  She for being an old fashioned German oma( I was raised if I was bad come Christmas I would get dragged off to hell, but an evil spirit that followed Santa...German oma's are scary.)  she loves games, or at least watching me play.  It gives her something to do as she doesn't get out much, and it is hard for her to sow now.  I don't mind  She is the best back seat gamer I know.

However I would pay to watch her play!
