Hello all I have a question one that will no doubt cause you all to jump on me and rip me to paces in a fit of fanders rage but hear I go. Isn't Anders and Merrill Different sides of the same coin? Hear me out.
1 They both have lofty goals
2 They have both dealt with daemons spirits In Anders case he has become possessed by justice and yet in some way feels he can tell Merrill that she is a fool for trusting a demon and that justice is in some way different. To which Merrill tells Anders “there's no such thing as a good spirit” this makes sense as a demon spirit is the embodiment of a human trait or emotion. And if you think about it any single emotion can be destructive if it becomes dominant in someone’s personality weather that be love, hate, faith or a sense of justice.
3 there actions can both end in the loss of innocent life the only difference is that there is no way to prevent the loss of life when it comes down to Anders. And also Merrill didn't intend for any of it to happen the way it did where as Anders had every intermission of doing what he
did and even lied to Hawke in order to get his/her help.
Thank you

Yes, I agree. However, if you are referring to Merrill restoring one mirror and Anders freeing mages, honestly Anders' goal is much less selfish. I understand that Merrill wants to restore what little is left of her people's past, but it's one artifact. Not the key to all wisdom.

Spirits and demons are two different things. While spirits can become demons (i.e. Justice-->Vengeance) Demons are downright malicious, unlike spirits. Anders let an originally benevolent spirit inside him, which changed when introduced to Anders' anger. Anders joined forces with Justice to help him fight mage oppression. Merrill joins forces with demons for personal use.
Anders regrets his decision to let Justice in, no matter what rivalry or friendship your carry with him. He makes the best of his situation and sets up a clinic! Merrill uses demons to construct a cursed mirror, that may or may not be used to help her uncover elven history.

I admit, Merrill unabashed honesty is something I respect. But she had the "intermission" her entire LIFE to quit bloodmagic. For Anders, there was no turning back and removing Justice. And if Hawke refuses to help Anders, then its Justice who goes and blows up the Chantry anyway.
If Merrill really understood there was no such thing as a good spirit, then she is consciously choosing to make pacts with evil. The ends don't justify the means. And I think that applies to both Merrill and Anders.
