This is something I truly appreciate about my pro-Templar run. You get a different POV of Meredith, and it's not just "she's crazy mmk" because of the Lyrium. No, the lyrium did not set her beliefs or her ideals for her, the lyrium made her paranoid, exaggerating those beliefs and looking for any excuse to justify them. I wonder if she exaggerated the number of people her sister killed, however. 70 seems like quite a lot, but even if it were just one person, she is right in wanting to protect the public. I liked having my expectations reversed.

Edit for top:

With Isabela, it's a given. She's like the side dish, remember?

Haha when isabella is talking about Justice and Anders and Hawke being a threesome she is like "Maybe Justice doesnt dislike you enough to smite you" or something haha

Or dislikes you too much to...

By the way, that line where Anders tells a rivalmanced non-mage Hawke that he "allowed" his sister to be dragged away by templars...what the hell was up with that? Not cool.

Well Connor was just one person. How many do you think he killed?

Well, if it's a rivalmance, aren't they constantly ****ing at each other anyway?  I imagine Hawke's gotten in a few below-the-belt shots.

No pun intended.

Anders is emotionally charged, if nothing else.  A lot of his +5 friendship/+5 rivalry increases are due to his emotional instability, I think.

Not sure. I would say "A WHOLE CASTLE!" but the castle was quick to refill itself after the quest. But maybe that's Lothering refugees. I'm just basing this on the number of NPCs I see around, not sure if each one is supposed to represent ten people realistically or not ...

Ahaha, yeah.  Telling Anders to get out in the sun was pretty harsh.

Doesn't help that in my rivalry Hawke's case it was true.

Beth told him to stand down so he did. Otherwise Cullen would've been a stain on the floor.

And yeah rivalry! Hawke can be a douche to Anders. <3

I'm sure Isabela brings it up all the time.  Come on, you know she would.

Isabela: So does Hawke like your magic tricks in the bedroom?
Anders: Damnit, Isabela. Don't start this again.
Isabela: You know, she has some pretty magical tricks herself for a non-mage.
Anders: Stop it.
Isabela: Like has she ever... ::long and overly detailed description::
Varric: ::taking notes::
Anders: 0_0  No, she hasn't done that...
Isabela: She really likes it when you --------- her --------- with a ----------- and then --------...
Anders: ::torn between disgust, horror, jealousy, and attraction::

I think it's a given that Anders is like a seesaw emotionally xD

One minute he's being all sparkles and flirts, putting out milk, then he's telling my F!Hawke to stay away because he'll hurt her, then he's got her up against the bloody wooden beam and sucking her face off.

My poor girl, she's so confused by him xD

The game doesn't make it easy for people to sympathise with mages since practically EVERYONE you meet except yourself (if you are a mage) has either used blood magic, or become an abomination or accepted a spirit inside of them etc etc. What people tend to overlook tho is that the mages brought up in freedom (like Morrigan and like Bethany) tend to know best to stay away from both demons and blood magic. In Connor's case it was mainly his mother's retardedness that caused all this to happen. But if the mages were not treated like garbage, torn away from their families stripped of their titles and hurled in a dungeon somewhere, maybe Isolde wouldnt have choosen to hide her ony child from the templars.

It's not just the castle. They had to start burning bodies immediately becaues otherwise they join Connor's army. I think his entire army is made up of people he killed. Probably a lot more than seventy there.

I think, even if most of the mages are abominations, if there is at least one or two people who aren't, it's worth finding them. Of course, this is a medieval mindset, and whatever is different from them must be killed, so ...

Well in the game it doesn't. Hawke's not too eager to hear about the Anders-Isabela thing. Ander's cool about Hawke and Izzy. It doesn't mean it's not there. Do they share the experiences remains a mystery.

I sympathize with mages just fine. Even when not playing one. It's an oppressed minority driven to desperate ends to end their oppression.

So... what we can take away from this is the Warden's a little more adventurous than Hawke?

She doesn't. Sadly. I wanted girl talk, dammit. She and Aveline get girl talk! The best banter ever ends with...

Isabela: (to Aveline)  I win if you stick your thumb up his ass.
Anders: Just...no.

That poses a practical problem. A lot of the abominations didn't reveal themselves to be so until someone was going to kill them anyway. If they had an ounce of sense, they'd keep it quiet and could do a lot of damage while you're out looking for the one or two non-possessed mages.

Thaaat's truuue. Just the way Meredith said it "she killed 70 people before the templars got her" didn't make it seem like she had some grandiose scheme that lasted weeks. I figured it to be an example of "we can't let them even live on their own because the Templars need to be in short reach." Not simply to not exist.

I'm of the opinion that the incredibly high occurance of blood mages in Kirkwall is something way, way beyond scared and captive mages. Not just that they turn to blood magic, but that they almost immediately become possessed upon using it. I'm sure there's already been a discussion of it elsewhere, but I think it's clear that Kirkwall itself is essentially on top of a hellmouth and it's causing absolute havoc with both mages and non-magic users. The Enigma of Kirkwall stuff is just fascinating, and I'd love to have a DLC or expansion that delves into the tissue-thin Fade in the area and just what the **** is going on in the Deep Roads in the Free Marches.

I can see both sides. But honestly, that's like saying we can't spend tax payer's money on finding out if we just sent an innocent man to Death Row because we need that money to find more people to sentence to death. What's the worth of one man's life? There will always be criminals, and there will always be blood mages. A lot of people turn "evil" when they are desperate -- you steal food if you can't afford it. It's just the animal in us to think of ourselves first; survival.

Still, this is a fantasy world, where true evil apparently exists, thanks to demons. Still, blood magic on its own is a personal choice, like all thugs and raiders. You can't slaughter everyone and think you'll prevent it (because the very act of massacre is exactly what you said you wanted to prevent).

First time I've seen Hellmouth outside of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but that really is what it is, isn't it?  The Veil being thin + the Lyrium Idol = Hellmouth.

Driving mages and templars crazy since the Blight.

I can endorse the Kirkwall=Sunnydale theory. I mean, the "mouth" to an ancient, possibly evil Thaig is just outside of town? Thin vale, demons, etc. Total Hellmouth scenario.
