Ha, don't get too sad! This is the furthest I've ever gotten with a male Hawke, and it took me forever to get a look that I liked. My female Hawkes get far more attention from me.
As for Ace's eyeshadow, it's not modded, I just played around with the picture in Photoshop. She's much more plain in game.

i also wish i could use the preset femhawke hair. it's the best short style <_<

I always have the opposite problem. I can make decent male characters, but I'm always super critical of my female characters. That's part of the reason why it's been just m!Hawkes for me.
I got lucky...I have gay friends who live with me, so they back seat help me make character >_> except Thera, I made her on my own

Funny enough my avatar isn't as plain as she looks <_<

Yeah, I agree, it's a fantastic style and I wish it had been included seperately from the presets so unmodded games could use it too. My original version had Cassandra's hair, and it's nice, but I really like the feathery look of the default hair.
The one downside is that it does clip into the side of the head if you go for wider cheekbones, but I know people are happy to overlook that.

Stubble and neither of the smoothest skin complexions and you're good to go.

That's the problem I have: I keep making Hawkes that look like they're at least in their 30s, with the facial hair and the rougher skin. And while they might be totally smokin', it doesn't really work when they're supposed to be between 19 and 24. I try and make them look younger and they just turn into characterless pretty boys.

I just say that the stress from running the family, running away from the blight, etc etc prematurely aged Daniel Hawke. I actually kind of wish there was a sort of greying at the temples hair color for that effect too. At least by end game

It clips into my warrior's nose sometimes, including during the lovescene. D: Otherwise, yes. It is the best hair (and I used Cassandra's hair first, too. Just not as fun).
Fortunately, Anders doesn't care about such issues:

Well, if it makes you feel better, 75% of my Hawkes are female. >.>
I have the same problem with my M!Hawke. Oh, the hours I spent in front of the Mirror of Transformation, trying to make him look marginally less like ass...
EDIT: **** YES MY AVATAR'S BACK

You could let him start out all fresh-faced pretty boy and then just age him in the Black Emporium as time goes on.

There is that. But I'm using the skin preset all the way to the left and he still has forehead wrinkles etc. It's like m!hawke is meant to look older than f!hawke. I dunno. Or it could be the head preset I altered. I used the one with the goatee and zevran hair as a starting point

I do wish they'd let us have an older DA hero. The Warden in Orgins was always treated as fairly young, and at one point it was explicitly stated that they wouldn't have been old enough to remember the Orlesian occupation. Hawke's also got the obvious limitations in age.
I want to play a female forty-something badass, dammit. Possibly one with a teenage kid who could be a companion (and, knowing Bioware, would die tragically during the prologue).

Shepard's as close as you'll get. And she's only 30 -ish. And not Dragon Age.

You could kinda do that in Awakening, if you wanted to create an Orlesian Warden. There's no age given, so s/he could be in their upper thirties/early forties.

I thought about that, but I've never played an Orlesian warden and wasn't sure if there were any references to the occupation that could put a limit on the age. Good to know there isn't! If I ever go back to DA:OA, I might give that a shot.
@Sialater: Yeah, I'd like to try it out in DA. There might be the problem of reduced lifespans and whatnot in a medieval society, but Loghain had an adult child and was still vigorous enough to go around killing Archdemons.
I guess a fresh-faced 20-something adventurer is what appeals to the majority? No idea.
