The game doesn't make it easy for people to sympathise with mages since practically EVERYONE you meet except yourself (if you are a mage) has either used blood magic, or become an abomination or accepted a spirit inside of them etc etc. What people tend to overlook tho is that the mages brought up in freedom (like Morrigan and like Bethany) tend to know best to stay away from both demons and blood magic. In Connor's case it was mainly his mother's retardedness that caused all this to happen. But if the mages were not treated like garbage, torn away from their families stripped of their titles and hurled in a dungeon somewhere, maybe Isolde wouldnt have choosen to hide her ony child from the templars.
I'm of the opinion that the incredibly high occurance of blood mages in Kirkwall is something way, way beyond scared and captive mages. Not just that they turn to blood magic, but that they almost immediately become possessed upon using it. I'm sure there's already been a discussion of it elsewhere, but I think it's clear that Kirkwall itself is essentially on top of a hellmouth and it's causing absolute havoc with both mages and non-magic users. The Enigma of Kirkwall stuff is just fascinating, and I'd love to have a DLC or expansion that delves into the tissue-thin Fade in the area and just what the **** is going on in the Deep Roads in the Free Marches.
You are right I havent thought about that much. And the mysterious gray warden appearence, off to their more importaint-than-this-city mission, sooo classic. What were they doing there?
