We should be comparing it to real life. DA2 is purposefully set up to be culturally relevant and mirror those kinds of events. It's not silly at all; we should be taking games more seriously, not less.
What does need to be avoided is getting so personally involved you can't step back and look at it any deeper than the superficial similarities. Anders is by all accounts a terrorist, and that's certainly a not-so-good thing, but it's also a very interesting thing worth discussing. Letting yourself become blinded by a sense of obligate rage is a bit of a waste, I think.
Sorry this is a few pages back here, just woke up. I think my saying it silly got taken out of context. I don't think comparing real life to a game is silly, we all do it. I have even said the Chantry has strong similarities between medeavil Catholic chruch, right down to having it's own Templar army. So I was comparing it to much older history and events, but none the less. Why I think it has become silly is to be honest outside this threas you can't have a good debate about it, because like I said in an earlier post, people put these shutters over their eyes and refuse to take them off. It saddens me that most people now days are that narrow minded.

Odd. BTN lists it as "derived from a Scottish place name (near Dumfries, Scotland) meaning 'green water'"
Greagoir's name works well, though: it's an Irish variant of Gregory, which itself comes from a Greek word meaning alert, or watchful.

How alert was Greagoir really? Uldred and Jowan were both practicing blood magic right under his nose.
Apparently? Not very.
Anders also escaped a few times on his watch, too.

Jowan, at least, was already being investigated, hence his fear of being made Tranquil. Can't remember about Uldred, though. As for Anders, he "was still considered only a reckless scamp by First Enchanter Irving, who thought his easy temper and sense of humor made him no true threat", so it's possible Irving leaned on Gregoir not to be too harsh on him.
