I never said I would prefer Anders to abandon his cause for Hawke. In fact, my Hawke had the same point of view with him on almost everything, she even ended up running away with him.

I just pointed out that otherwise, Anders romance is very heart breaking in general.

Like I said before, the reason I was pissed at Anders was he contradicted with himself when he said he didn't want to involve Hawke but he totally did when he emotionally abused her to get her help him. (saying stuff like "IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU"LL DO THIS FOR ME ETC.) If he really didn't want to involve her in the situation, he never should have asked for her help in the first place.

Other than this, I love Anders and his personality.

Wow, emotionally abusive? Were we playing the same game? Anders might have lied, he might've been manipulative, but I don't see him as abusive. He is clearly uncomfortable with going to Hawke for help. It comes across as he has no other options, and is now doing his best to keep his friend or lover from being implicated in what he's about to do. Again, the guy's not a saint or even a hero, but I'd hesitate to call him abusive.

This part of the game is a little vague, but I got the feeling from the subtext that Anders was trying to work this out on his own, and it wasn't going well. Obviously if Hawke doesn't help, he finds a way to pull it off. But at the moment, it feels like he's out of options. He's not sure if his plan will succeed without Hawke's help, so he's going to him. It doesn't look like it's easy for him to do. Indeed, he comes across as remorseful many times throughout the quest, but he does it for what he sees as the greater good.

I doubt you'll mind if I reply to your discussion from a couple of hours ago: 

About Anders lying - yes it's terrible and he's such a manipulative little dick I wanted to smack him. I also just fell for it like a little stupid child - I didn't even question it. And I think this is what hurts most of all - people pretend they're upset about a bunch of nuns getting blown to bits but the truth is our massive female egos got hurt - and it made us angry. 

But jokes aside, what hurt me most is the fact that he didn't trust me enough to tell me about his plan. But I understand why he didn't trust me - I would have been honour bound to stop him - we would have ended up fighting to the death - he loves me why would he want that? He doesn't want to kill the person he loves and he doesn't want to risk getting stopped. So it makes sense that he lied. I'm sure if he could've done it without my help he would have too.

And now about separating him from Justice: I think that piece of info about permanently damaging a host's soul if you separate them from a demon is only definitely true for demons. Spirits are supposedly very different and their relationship with their host works differently. I don't believe there's been enough Wynne and Anders cases for them to be studied and documented. So as per usual we simply don't know if a separation is possible or not. I still suspect Justice can simply leave if he wishes - will Anders just revert to his old self immediately after or will he remain as this new dedicated and selfless Anders? I don't know. Or maybe it is impossible and it will just result in his death - or will drive him properly crazy.
In which case I really prefer not to try any separations. It hurts me how much hate there is for Justice/Vengeance. Nobody sees him as the victim he is in this situation, it's not like he planned to go crazy and loose his grasp of mercy when he joined with Anders, he had the best intentions. I also disapprove of using him as an excuse for Anders' actions.

I always like to make informed decisions, even when I play a videogame. I ask the quest givers all the questions I possibly can before taking on the quest, which perhaps some might consider not being actual RP. That being said, it was hard not to be completely spoiled as I looked through the quests on the wiki on my first playthrough (in order to get the best rivalry/friendship stuff, mostly). I knew what sela petrae sounded like and figured out what drakestone could be pretty quickly, and from a young age I've known a version of the recipe for black powder, (I could figure out what he was up to even without the wiki) but my god. The emotional reaction from completing the Justice quest hit me in the gut regardless. I really couldn't believe how much of an **** he was being to my Hawke with the emotional blackmail after I asked him questions, and then afterwards, I was desperate thinking he was breaking up with Hawke. I was a hair's breadth from killing him at the end just because he'd lied and manipulated, even though he obviously felt terribly about it. I spared him, but after that first playthrough was when I actually realized I'd fallen in love with that character.

Well, I am in good company, after all . . .

But yeah, at first it was a toss-up as to wether or not I'd romance Fenris (omg that voice) or Anders, and the deciding factor was basically how much I'd liked him in Awakening, figuring the flirting would be better.  Plus I like cats.

My real point being that I was totally not expecting to become so emotionally attached to the guy, especially not after the absurdly corny romance lines he throws at you!  Such a thing is usually a turn-off for me, cuz I usually can't take it seriously.  Thus, I am incredibly thankful that Hawke can respond with humorous deflections
