@Kromify: A minute well spent indeed! :D I love that comic to death I thought it was SO FUNNY! Showed it to some people who sort of know who Anders is around me and they were just like "...okay"-.- NOBODY GETS ME BUT YOUGUYS!

@Elle: I've read soooo much dark, traumatising or just badly written stuff but it seems to make no difference to my Andersless dreaming one way or the other =( I'd be happy with some Fenris at this point - I'd at least know my brain sort of knows where to look. And we're already married :D To each other and this thread and Anders! We're like all the chantry priestesses married to the maker.

Edit: Hehe top, I'll just dig through my Deviantart folder and post a bunch of my fave Anders, hope you guys don't mind:

I did a little comparative research on just how much fan art there is for characters of DA, Casey Hudson's commentary on the amount of Garrus fan art in mind (yeah, I'm hoping the devs of DA are keeping a keen eye on the fandom just like the ME team is)... Keeping in mind just how controversial Anders is he's doing very well in the fan art department. It would seem there's more Anders stuff than Fenris stuff, for example. And I didn't even take Andersmeme... sorry, Kmeme into account. It's kinda... surprising.

Has anyone else paid attention to this? What "results" have you gotten?

Anderssssss....

That man is too cute. I went to take some screenshots of my canon Hawke and ended up with mostly just shots of Anders, haha.

@ Purplecookie - I figure hubbies get enough attention. And are less drama. If I knew hubby was an apostate mage hell bent on blowing up an oppressive regime he might stand a chance. Somehow software analyst just isn't on the same level of attractive jobs.

@ Ninche - Seriously, I need to pinch that Anders thread open marriage banner off of someone. I met another DA fan at that Eurovision party (she had the t-shirt on) and she wasn't obsessed as me... so I shut up and hid in the vodka some more. And posted on here at like 2am. O.o I think I would explode with angsty longing were it not for BSN Anders thread.
And now I've got to wait till I get home to hear Anders tell Hawke off, stupid sound. I hate when people post to youtube without subs. How rude!

@ nekhbet - I'm guessing the amount of fan art is down to him being so controversial. I've said this before, but I think to appreciate him you have to be more intelligent (or more willing to deconstruct the game and the themes) than your average person, and these tend to have a higher concentration of hardcore artistic fans. Plus he's hot. And awesome. And the most manly of the companions. Okay, gonna stop before I start rambling.

@ Yami - I'm sure my Xbox knows of my obsession. Whenever Anders is in my group, he's always the one that's in shot when Hawke's talking. Posted Image

I made a new, slightly larger version of the marriage banner. Otherwise you could steal the one I made for kromify.

I'm also on an xbox, so my "screenshots" consist of careful digital photographs of the TV screen, haha. Otherwise I would spam the heck out of this thread with Anders pics.

Heh, I'd do the same but my upload speed is crap so it takes forever to put stuff on Photobucket. It's a shame you can't just attach pictures as you can on some message boards.

The thing to take into consideration with Anders is the fact that some of us have been arting and ficcing about him for over a year. There was already a few die hard artists on Dev Art who turned out a ton of (excellent) stuff, and one of the more high profile DA fics is an Anders romance. Because of this, he's always had a fairly decent presence in fanworks even before DA2 came out.

But, beyond that, I've definitely noticed a pretty significant percentage of DA2 art/fic is Anders-centric (he's the most requested LI on the kmeme (but Fenris isn't that far behind and will probably overtake him at some point in the near future, unless the meme becomes completely Fenders-centric))

That being said, he's also arguably the most important character in DA2. Unlike Garrus, who was not really vital to ME (athough he is vital to my enjoyment of ME), I don't think the amount of user generated works for Anders would really surprise anyone at BW.

@ ElleMullineux - haha I know exactly what you mean, my husband is a web developer for a pensions company, that job is about as exciting as a soggy newspaper, poor love!

@Ninche - *bows down for posting gallery of awesome* Posted Image

@Nekhbet - I'm wondering if the increased fanart might also be due to the nature of the romance with Anders. It's pretty intense to say the least and out of the romances I've tried (and the times I've failed to resist Ser Pouts a Lot, looked to youtube lol) Anders's romance is to me the one that requires the most emotional investment. Maybe the increased fanart then is because he's a character that provokes the most passion out of people (and I don't just mean that term in the romantic sense but also passion in the sense of interest) that encourages artistic expression?

Plus, like ElleMullineux says, he's plain awesomeness and hotness personified Posted Image

I'll admit to being rabidly obsessive. It's why I fear being lured away by Garrus again because it means I'll just start drawing bunches of Garrus pics and such and completely abandon poor Anders for a bit. Although, in my defense, I only usually take pics of the TV as a way to get good reference pics of my Hawkes and Shepards. Occassionally I get distracted by Garrus or Anders in the process.

awwwwww, so much emotion in his face. I love the way they've drawn him in DA2. Infact I love the... cinematorgraphy? Is that the relevant word in gaming terms? He's just the most interesting character to watch... unlike Fenris who keeps looking like he wants to headbutt the camera.

You must have a pretty good TV - you HD?

I know, I absolutely love all of the tiny animations they include in DA2. Especially for Anders (big surprise). Since he's such a turbulent guy, it's fun to see all the emotions flit across his features. He has so many different expressions it makes him feel a bit more real.

Oh, and it is a good TV. I only wish I could get actual screencaps because Anders looks so very pretty in giant HD.

Anders definitely seems like the most expressive of the DA2 companions. Whether he's amused, depressed, confused, or angry, you know it just by looking at him. They did a really good job with the facial animations in this game. And the cinematography in general. I'm trying to replay Origins right now and man oh man is it hard. The shots are all fairly static, the characters just stand there kind of woodenly, and I find myself yelling at my warden to emote. Plus, I'm going on record as saying I prefer DA2 Anders' to DAA Anders in terms of looks (and in terms of most everything; massive doses of drama and heartbreak are my bread and butter).

Yeah I tried playing DA:O and Awakening again but I just...can't...find it in myself to be in the mood to play because I've gotten used to the great graphics and facial expressions of the characters in DA2. Not only that but after finding out that Anders is going to be a companion again in DA2 and after finishing my DA2 playthrough, I've gotten more interested in Anders than when I was playing Awakening [He's my favorite companion in Awakening plus Oghren and Nathaniel]

Origins was gloriously cinematic and DA2 has surpassed is so much. The way it's animated is very much live-action film style: There's some great examples like the guards ambush at the wounded cost when you see this realistic hand-held camera thing going on - very military movie style.

And they've outdone themselves with the character camera work too - all the close ups and shot compositions - I noticed it way back in the demo when Bethany/Carver dies and Leandra is saying goodbye and you can see the cloudy sun between their faces in the background - that kind of thing. The devs are obviously inspired not only by greatfantasy novels and such but by great movies too, and I don't care what the haters say - lots of love went into making this. It's obvious!

And maybe it's just me but I almost feel like the Anders cutscenes were given all the love and attention - they're not buggy at all and I've watched the kiss at the estate sooooooo many times and it's just perfect - even his fingers on Hawke's face look especially shaped up and prettier, and the way his jaw moves as he's kissing her... perfection doesn't just happen without someone putting lots of hard work into it - whoever was responsible for the direction of that particular scene has my love forever!

^^ Argh, this so much. To the extent that when I played DAA for the first time and my warden did a raised eyebrow thing pretty early on I was flaberghasted! Seriously - she showed some emotion?!!! Posted Image

And DA2 Anders wins hands down. No questions asked. I'll internet wrestle anyone that disagrees. Posted Image

Awwwwww, the way he touches her face makes me melt into a perfect puddle of Anderslust. It's so gentle yet so proprietary at the same time.

And I can't see the scene done with the other LI's (or is it just Merril? - I've only youtubed them) without my brain screaming that it's wrong!

Agreed, I just love how the more intimate scenes were choreographed (if that's the right term?), the camera angle in the passionate kiss at Anders' clinic is just perfect, the way he holds onto Hawke just captures that moment of intensity, you really get the sense of how difficult it has been for him that he's held back for so long and just must have a physical connection with him/her at that moment. And then how this contrasts so much from the gentle scene at the mansion. A lot of love and hard work indeed must have gone into those scenes. I just kinda hope that amongst at the apparent rage that "DA2 is awful!!!" that the designers and writers etc can see all the praise too.

Oh and also, clicking on that link, holy cr*p how have I only just noticed that when Anders is holding Hawke's face that there's a magic smoke/mist (for lack of a better descriptor) coming from his hand!???

See, DA2 Anders wins in terms of looks, purpose and pure romantic epicness. Awakening Anders, though, ensnared me with an adorable ****-ness that's underscored by hints of darkness.

I think that's what I miss the most in DA2, I wanted more adorable ****. The only time we get it is in the banter with Isabela, and that's just a hint.

I definitely prefer DA2 Anders to DAA Anders. He started out pretty awesome in Awakening but he took on a whole new level in 2. His face, his outfit, his animations, his voice... It's all just so very

Although I do miss the level of pure snark he had before. And the Ser Pounce induced adorableness.

I prefer him a bit more serious, the pure snarkfest would have been a bit too much I think for an LI. I like that when the snark does rear it's head it just makes me want to sing for joy! I'm trying to think back to which quest it was when I brought Anders along and he went into full snark rant, it might have been Sundermount, think I had Varric and Aveline with me and he just went off on one about not pissing off the people with the swords. Or something. Dammit. Will have to check when I get home tonight. I have to say I've noticed more snark from him playing as snarky Hawke though.
