Last time I didn't realise it makes whatever sheild she's equipped with the special one, so I had her stuck with a ridiculous elven one. So not happening this time, she looked like an idiot. At least she looked like an idiot because she wanted to make Hawke happy.

I also know the shield has different stats if it is exclusive to her or not [just like the "Blade of Mercy" gift for Fenris though I always take the sword because it has a better stats in my opinion]

Edit: opps at the top...here's a pic of Anders

No, that's just what Aveline's shield looks like.

Thanks Yami... that sucks so much. I hate the way she looks with that behind her head. Posted Image
Will just have to find a more awesome shield to equip her with instead.

I made the mistake of buying the DLC equiptment packs seperately. So I don't have the warrior set, but I do like Anders with the naked lady staff - but I don't get how it's... er... subtle. From the codex I thought it would be less obviously a staff, more a delicated crafted piece of wood that doesn't scream "I'M A MAGE". Posted Image

Uhm, this video of anders singing the Cat Dance Song with Ser Pounce A Lot just made my life:

This is priceless!

@ishmaeltheforsaken
I think it's cute!

This must be why they made Anders get rid of Ser Pounce A Lot. No one could take the Grey Wardens seriously anymore...  Some Wardens probably walked in on him dancing around with the kitty and they were like "Aaaw hellz no!".  Poor Anders.  ::sniffle::

Speaking of accessories, does anyone else stash away companion equipment? Whenever I give them new weapons, I always stash away the originals. For my siblings, before they die, I always give them a new weapon so I can keep their old one as a memento.

Or, sometimes I even do it if Hawke or Anders use something long enough. Like I keep hold of my favorite armor for canon Hawke, and if Anders had a particular staff long enough, I stash it away instead of selling it because I'm a dork like that.

Good morning thread. While catching up again, I noticed during the comparison of DAA and DA2 Anders, I realized what made me fall for him without realizing it back in Awakenings.

His eyebrows.

Silly, right? But for me it makes sense. The way he would arch them completely reminds me of how my husband arches his, and that always makes me swoon. But back to Anders.. it wasn't until they announced he was returning to DA2 that I really felt anything for him. DAA Anders was awesome and all, but just wasn't quiet there yet to make me obsessed. He was just that snarky healer I brought with my Warden to light Templars on fire with.

Then they announced him -plus with the clip of him in his clinic-  and it sent a spark to activate that dormate eyebrow fetish. And here I am now.

So now, that makes me wonder what happened to make others fall for him? Was it just how emotionally intense he is? Perhaps an old love of him since DAA? I'm curious.

Sorry if this have been discussed before. With how much goes on in this place, it's hard to recall. In case it has, I'll leave this to make up for.

Hmmm I only stash equipment that have good stats [if not a good equipment anymore I sell it to have more money B)]. But it makes me mad whenever I'm done with the game and then look at my storage to find out that all of my stashed equipments are gone! <_<

I don't do that but I love the idea of that from an RP perspective - hats off to you! Posted Image

I do try to do little RP quirks during playthroughs though, like for example, Sorscha Hawke (mage) had a spider phobia so whenever they were in caves and spiders came out of nowhere she would run close behind Anders and fight from there. She had no problems getting stuck in when fighting abominations, skeletons and demons, but when it came to spiders... for that playthrough I thought it added an interesting dynamic because Anders was constantly telling her he was dangerous and would hurt her which totally contradicted her feeling at ease around him.

Edit: just to add, I've never stored items, everything gets sold, I seem to only RP Hawkes that want money money money lol

Kept the pic because it's adorable.

To answer your question, I'd say there were a lot of little things. Among other things, I had my old fondness of him from DAA, he was compassionate, and he was hot. However, the primary thing that made me fall for DA2 Anders is his passion. I was all for his "hot headed revolutionary" thing. So while other people might have gotten tired of him constantly talking about mages, I was all for it.

I've mentioned it before but I love the bit of dialogue from Merrill where she says Anders really, truly believes, "With more fire than the sun." That pretty much sums up what I found so entrancing about him. He dragged me into the game and made me get into it way more than I would have without him.

Anders with kittens is always a win-win - situation for me. :) Very nice sketch!

Well, the DA:A - Anders wasn't really engaging for me. I just was endlessly amused by his quirky personality and his almost absurd love for cats. He was such a silly and fun character I just had to like him. You know, like HK-47 or Louis in L4D. (Regarding Louis: You just have to like him because of his optimistic character and outlook compared to the more stern or sarcastic other three characters)
Though DA:A - Anders on the PS3 looks absolutely horrid. I was pretty disappointed when I first saw him.

Just for comparison:

But anyway.... I guess what I really like and enjoy about Anders is his drastic change to DA2, this idealistic fight against almost impossible odds as well as his internal struggle against a force he cannot fully control or comprehend. I like how it changed him, I like how the Warden met such a goofy, freedom-loving fellow and Hawke such a stern, bitter character.
I like the conflict Justice creates, I like how he forces the player to think about the conditions of the mages, of spirits, demons, possession, the cost of freedom. I enjoy that he is a companion who steps up to his beliefs and goes through with them. Who cannot be persuaded or changed, who is trapped within his own cosmos of pain, horror and responsibility and cannot be saved from it.
It's so interesting that the player has no control over his actions and cannot persuade him to change his view. - He will go and destroy the chantry, no matter what you do. He will continue to fight for the freedom of mages, no matter how much influence Hawke has on him. And I think that makes him a very strong and emotionally engaging character.

You either love him or hate him, but you certainly think about him, the mages, the templars.

True...

Anyway wait...so there's a big difference in the graphics of PC and PS3? I see... Then it makes me prefer PC even more if that would be the case. [Though of course PS3 can be good too but I just don't like the graphics difference like those...just saying]

Not regarding the graphics, but some of the character-models. Anders has a completely different face, Sigrun and Nathaniel are also a little bit altered, as far as I know.
I just don't get it. Why would they change the faces for the consoles? That's just plain ridiculous.

Nope, in DA:O and DA2 everything is just as on the PC or XBox, it's only DA:A as far as I know.

Bolded for agreement.

I was never a huge fan of the Chantry in DAO, and by the time I got to Act 2 in my first playthrough I was just ready to light fire to the place, the Knight-Commander, and skip town with Anders. Since it was my first go, I was running blind with zero spoilers of what was going to happen. Was a bit on edge after Anders' quest in Act 3, but didn't think to much into it. When he jenga'd the Chantry, I was shocked for a moment, but can't say what I felt was betrayal. My Hawke wasn't a mage, but she was definitely pro-mage and Anders' passion just was more fuel for the fire to the point where she was probably past reasoning as well.

She understood what he was fighting for, and would be there for support- even with the cost of that support means. And I agree with both of them. What does that say for me as a person? I can't say, and the only sleep I've lost over it is because of how much this game has made me think about that.

Huh, I've never seen that line with Merrill, when does she say that? I only really drag her out to ruin her life so..

Summary of this post: I love Anders for more than just my silly fetish, because of his belief and how much passion he has in said beliefs. Also the Chantry have been a bunch of jerkfaces since the beginning.

I do that,  too! However, it is because he's first alphabetically, which is how I order my shore party. It's quite fortunate that Anders, Alistair and even Garrus are usually first.

*Ahem*

Can I tell ya'll how I got hooked in Anders? I saw him in the Awakening trailer. That was pretty much all I needed. The fact that he was funny, flirty and into cats was just bonus on top of bonus. He stole me from Alistair, he stole one of my Wardens from Alistair, and in DA2 he became just this amazingly complicated and tragic character who is painful and wonderful at once.

And the thread title as an extension of his mercuial temperament and overall expressiveness is pretty apt. I was never moved to change the Alistair Gush thread.

That PS3 shot... wow.  Just.  Wow.  Posted Image

Not that I cared much for Anders in DA:A.  My Warden grew to like him, after extensive exposure convinced her that there was something serious underneath the selfish, flippant shell.  (She was very serious and duty-minded, and didn't have a lot of patience for his joking.)  I always thought that he looked like a greased ferret (pointy face + glossy shell hair - all right, I know the hair was the graphic engine's fault), and there was a whiny undertone to Greg Ellis' voicing of him that was like nails on a chalkboard for me.

My first reaction to DA2 Anders was, "You look hot.  You sound hot.  Woah."  I cannot get enough of Adam Howden's voice work.  The little trembles make me go all trembly.  There's his fabulous outfit, the detailed facial animations, but the thing that most gripped me was his emotional intensity.  My canon diplosnark Hawke was drawn like a moth to a flame, and I even love the cheesy romance scene lines; they work for Anders because whatever he's feeling - whether the emotions are good or bad - he's always really, really feeling it.  And they work for my canon Hawke because his intensity is infectious.  Someday I'll get an aggrosnark run off of the ground and offer him a sandwich instead.

Haha! Actually I got so hooked in Anders because of the cat :lol::lol: I love cats! Just like Anders. And I like people who love cats  Funny way to like the person but it's true! The rest of him just followed afterwards

Edit: For the DA2 Anders, well I like the new look, the voice [very well voiced I must say] and the facial expression. All are just...great! [Too bad there are no cats in DA2]

Hm, what made me love Anders? I think my Hawke and I fell in love with him without even realizing it! This was my first run of DA2 and so I was mostly interested in finding a way to sleep with everyone so I made my Hawke a fairly licentious and flirtatious man (I think I was just sad cuz I didnt get to sleep around a lot in DAO, especially cuz I accidentally killed Zev at the beginning of the game...) I decided on the order to seduce and break hearts of my companions, placing Anders at the last cuz I was planning on fulling romancing him because I liked him from DAA as he was so snarky! However, my Hawke was also an ardent Mage supporter who wasnt one to generally follow the proper channels and so he and Anders grew closer in ideology even before the actual romance. Their little fight over the "potion" I think is what kind of sealed the deal for my Hawke. I think the explosion sealed the deal for me. Especially how Anders was so devistated afterwards. My poor Anders! So mad we didnt get a final kiss at the final battle! BAH!

Anyways, I really enjoyed the progression from a fun-loving snark-a-holic with an underscore of something dark in DAA to the glory that is in Anders DA2. Oh, I love tortured souls!

It's one of her Act 3 banters with Anders. The full thing is:
  • Merrill: You really believe don't you?
  • Anders: What are we talking about?
  • Merrill: Believing. You do I can tell, in freedom, in mages, in good spirits and bad templars. With more fire than the sun.
  • Anders: And your point is?
  • Merrill: I miss it sometimes, things being certain.
  • Anders: Some things are certain.
  • Merrill: Not anymore.
