Do you think Anders shaves or is he just one of those guys who can't grow a real beard and so is stuck with perma-stubble? Is he hoping by romancing Karl and beardy Hawke that some of their hairiness will rub off on him?

I really like reading all the intelligent conversation on the chantry/terrorism issues but I'm neither smart enough nor knowledgable enough to join in, so instead I sit back and enjoy the eloquence. Oh and marvel and "D'awww" over Anders pics

Okay.. I'm guessing he's got a ginger beard if he tries to grow it out, but he's too busy/lazy to shave everyday... so perma-stubble it is. And Hawke just never visists on a cleanshave day. Even when he moves in. Unless he trims it everyday with scissors to keep it all an even stubbly length?

I'm still fascinated by the hair, and I'll happily put money on him having cut his ponytail off when he ran from the templars, and now can't quite decide to grow it out so just keeps hacking at it with scissors whenever it gets too long.

I think that Anders is one of those quys who needs to shave twice a day every day just to keep a stubble - in other words, he has a constant battle on his hands not to grow a beard (besides, Hawke likes it just fine with a stubble XD)

The hair though... see mine is one of those that just does not seem to grow, no matter what you do to it. It's been the same approximate lenght for years, as whenever it grows longer, it gets too brittle and breaks. So, I totally buy it that Anders has the same length of hair for ages

There's a conversation between Varric and Anders at one point where Varric comments on his looks and Anders pretty much indicates that they just aren't important (another nod to the contrast from Awakening Anders *sniff*) so I imagine it's the case where he just isn't concerned enough to keep himself clean-shaven. Obviously Awakening Anders had stubble but I assume that was an intentional attempt (successful!) to look all sexy-like whereas now I interpret it to be more "Stubble? Stubble? I'm fighting for the right for mages to be able to choose to have stubble or not!"

I agree.  I think his shaving habits as well as everything else is to show that Anders has changed from the person in Awakening.  If it has nothing to do with the cause (with the exception of Hawke) he doesn't really care about it. 

It's really interesting to think of how Justice informs Anders personality and changes him from a man who runs from everything that seems to cost him individually to someone who cares of nothing but other people's freedom, even at the cost of his own.

I can see that.  A good friend of mine struggled when he was in Basic Training for the army because he had a 5 o'clock shadow at noon!
Also length aside, the man might have cut his hair sometimes. Even if it was with the dagger at his belt.  I also agree with whoever posted ages ago that he most likely quickly hacked his own trademark ponytail off to hide from the wardens/templars better. Maybe he decided he liked the style after that. ::pets Anders' pretty hair::

edit: haha I quoted the person I agree with. don't mind the zombie running on 3 hrs sleep over here

Clearly, a wizard did it.

Seriously, I think he's just a perma-stubble kinda guy. He probably shaves every now and again, people are disconcerted, and the next day everything is back to normal. That pretty much describes my father, who is even of similar coloring (and background, if Anderfels=Germany).

And I don't think Anders has a type like normal people do. Before Dragon Age 2 it was Everything and during DA2 it's Hawke.

Considering how dark Anders stubble is, it seems like- were he able to grow a beard- it would be completely black. That would be pretty funny. All the more reason to be glad he only has the stubble.

I also don't think he really has a type, but it amuses me to think of him rubbing his chin up against other men's beards in an attempt to encourage his own facial hair to grow. Which also makes me imagine him rubbing against them like a cat...

That's true, my thought process there was based on my husband who's a bit lazy and has a sort-of beard (trimmed very short in a not-quite-a-beard-but-is kind of way) - he says he hates how a beard feels and is too lazy to keep himself clean shaven so just keeps himself trim every now and then as a compromise between effort and feeling comfortable. Maybe the perma-stubble is kind of like that for Anders then, doesn't like a full-beard but doesn't want to spend the time keeping his lovely face smooth because there are more important things?

Agreed though, not being able to see that jaw line would be a crime!
