Of course it's fine Posted Image, I love picking up the ends of debates from pages back and pumping some life back into them. Posted Image

And that's a lovely idea - and it makes me want to protect him even more!!! He does come across as overly clingy to me personally, but my Hawke is pretty much messed up by that point (no family left etc etc) so welcomes his obsessive idealised love because he'll take just about anything from Hawke. Which makes the rivalmance more upsetting for me, because he just accepts Hawke's negative view of him. Posted Image

I was talking to someone else about the rivalmance and how you basically destroy him by the end and he's just a husk of a man. You have effectively stripped Justice and the Templars, and there is nothing left. On the friendmance he's validated and able to build from where he is, because lets be honest he's not going to get back to what he was. Better to start fresh and help guide and support him, in my eyes anyway.

This is absoltely my thoughts too! I've not done the rivalmance but I will when the next patch is out - I know that it's going to be an absolutely emotional gut-kick because my understanding of it is that Anders has the same preoccupation with his idealised Hawke, but in this instance is constantly having his negative perceptions of himself confirmed ie confiming that he is a monster and an abomination. His mental state must be so broken down not only from Justice/Vengeance but after years of having his negative self-perceptions reinforced by the woman/man he loves more than anything, it's just heartbreaking to me Posted Image

Hmmm I think in the rivalmance it is still up to you on how you want him to understand that merging only caused him and his friend Justice problems. In my rivalmance playthrough I wasn't really THAT mean to him [and as much as possible I do not want to be agressive because I do support the cause it's just not the means] So anyway, I'm really gonna wait for the patch to see the bug fixed. And by then, I'll see which of the romance is better.

That's good that you don't have to be that cruel to him, as I say, I've not played it yet so don't know too much about it but I still feel like I'm going to find it a difficult playthrough. Bring on the patch though (and hopefully fixed rivalmance bugs)!

Edited for the top:

You don't have to be overtly cruel to him, but nicely telling him that he and everything he believes in sucks over and over again for seven years doesn't really make much of a difference to someone with a personality like his. If anything, it probably just helps to reinforce his self-loathing.

Agreed - to the point where he'll fight against his own cause because you tell him to (once it's debugged of course). Which is so horribly sad. Posted Image Who wants to love a punching bag?

That's true...which is why in my first playthrough I feel it would be better to befriend him instead. Though the reinforcing his self-loathing part in the rivalmance playthrough, I still have to take a thought on that first. I'm not even done with that yet since I'm waiting for the bug to be fixed. So for the mean time, I cannot really say much about it

Also agreed. While it's good that you don't have to be explicitly cruel, I still feel like it's going to be a harsh experience essentially breaking the man who loves you, regardless of intentions and delivery of your disagreement. That youtube vid of where Anders seems to no longer trust himself and does what Hawke tells him is such a contrast to the 'Anders with a fiery passion for his cause' in the friendmance path. It just leaves me with such a horrible feeling at how... empty he must be at that point (and I've not even played it yet!) Posted Image

Oh believe me...it's so damn hard to rival him while I'm doing the whole process. I mean sure making him a rival is not hard but if you're not the type of person to be like that to a friend or lover then it is really hard. I like the idea of Hawke trying to make him see what is wrong. But if it really...I mean really give him a mental breakdown after. Maker I wouldn't ever do that [well I'll at least give him a little push and then he has to see it on his own if it is really wrong].  Heck I wouldn't even side with the templars if it wasn't for my curiosity of what will happen on the other side of the coin.

Edit: Ok so I'm off to bed a little early than my usual "semi-insomniac" sleeping pattern.

I sincerely hope that is a clever euphemism which is too clever for me than an actual truth! Because then I'm very sad.

It was just a poor attempt at some form of innuendo. I don't have an actual cat.

The only actor I know I can say looks like anyone from Dragon Age is Paul Walker. Give him some hazel eyes and he'd be a Cullen.
