I just figured something about about Anders versus Andraste.
Everyone assumes that Andraste is the Christ figure.
She's not. She's Moses. Andraste didn't WANT to sacrifice her life, she was reluctant to become a martyr. Anders, however, from healing the sick and the infirm, to willingly becoming a martyr -- however relieved he might be to "let that cup pass him by," -- he is the more Christ like figure considering the sacrifices he made in his life prior to blowing up the Chantry.
The blowing up the Chantry, though was his "walk with the devil," which he failed and then marrs his Christ-figure traits.
Hawke is either John or Judas, depending on how you play her.
This is only based on what I think Bioware was trying to accomplish, not that I think they succeeded nor am I entirely happy they went this route. And I'm not willing to turn this into a modern day religion debate, only pointing out the literary parallels. So...let's not head down that road, shall we?

It's obviously there - not even necessarily as the judeo-christian religion (although with the game made in and for a primarily christian culture... now now, I'm not saying everyone is, just that you know, Christmas, Easter, etc etc, it's the stories we grow up with). How far you want to take that comparison is up to the individual but I think it's an interesting layer on top of everything else.

Ok, I have a question regarding Anders' and Hawke's conversation at the mansion just before their night together and it's probably going to make me look very dumb () but I'm just wondering what others think. When Anders says it would kill him to lose Hawke, with snarky Hawke, his/her response is "This won't change that" or words to that effect. Am I correct in understanding that what is meant is that one night together doesn't mean he's not going to lose her/him? It's a practical attitude no doubt but seems just a tad cold so was just wondering what y'all thought

As far as his potential legend goes, I think if you don't kill him there, he'll still end up dying in a suitably martyrly fashion. Or even if he dies of foot infection in a cave somewhere someone will spread the story that the Divine personally crucified him or something.Sialater wrote...

I did worry about that, but the mages rebel anyway, so I figure a leader that disappears into the mists may work just as well. Or else he manges to do something.... else later on.
Plus my PC's make bad and selfish choices for love, and I wouldn't have them any other way.

Waaaaaay sadder than any of the other break-up scenes. I had to play it again and have Hawke tell him that he loved Anders to make it all better.

True enough. Still, I can't kill him there. Only did it once on my side with the templars playthrough and it was depressing. I'll stick with Hawke protecting Anders until he/she gets kidnapped by Flemeth or whatever the hell else we'll find out happened to him/her
So if BW really intended Anders to be killed, I'll take the chance and just let him die from other types of death but NOT in my hands.

Havnt played ME...yet. I was a die-hard Final Fantasy fan and raaaaarely played any other games. But FF13 blew so hard, and many of my friends were singing the praises of DA on facebook (this was just as DA2 was released) that I decided to give DA and Bioware a shot. Woah am I hooked.
