Okay, so here I am in my second playthrough, and I just got the gathering quest from Anders again. The first time around, obviously not knowing what was going to happen, I didn't think anything of it except that I was trying to help my LI and Justice pull apart.

But, knowing what happens later, am I now right in thinking all of that was a ruse to get my help? I mean, he never actually does anything to free himself from Justice, does he? (I was swooning too much at hearing him talk about running away with Hawke and making babies to pay attention to whether or not his blowing up the Chantry somehow set Justice free.)

So, are we duped or did I just miss something?

I know you can get him to admit it is a lie, but I have this awful pang in my heart that says maybe he knew that there was a real chance you'd kill him for it.  And that would, in fact, separate him and Justice.  He goes so far as to say something along the lines of, "no, no magic, just mix the ingredients together and then boom, I join the ranks of normal mages."

And trying to give away his pillow = sign of tying up loose ends since he knows he will probably die.

Ok, I'm reading too much into it, I'm sure.  I just get all :crying: but but but but I couldn't kill you!

The Anders romance in general is depressing. I'm looking forward to seeing if he's shocked when I side with the mages and spare him in my alt ending for this playthrough. He did say that what he really wanted to do was change Hawke's mind, after all.

Why play a BW game if your going to skip the dialogue. Most of BW games have "meh" gameplay. =] It's not terrible but there's a lot better.

Maybe that's just me though.

LOL, I don't know.  I'll have to ask my little brother, because that describes him pretty well.  He didn't even get half the companions in Origins because he never bothered to speaking to anyone he didn't have to.  XD  He asked me for help during the final battle because it was giving him trouble.  He was playing a warrior Warden, with Alistair, Oghren, and Morrigan in heavy armor.  When I checked his party screen, this happened:

Me: Where are all your rogues?  Where's Zevran?
Bro: Oh yeah, he attacked me so I killed him.
Me: Leliana?
Bro: Who?
Me: What about Sten?
Bro: Who?
Me: Wynne?
Bro: Who?
Me: The old lady
Bro: Oh yeah.  I killed her too.
Me: ::facepalm::

But he seemed to enjoy the game regardless, so... ::shrug::  To each their own, I guess.  No matter how weird "their own" may be.  XD

No, he's ready to die, if not in the explosion then to be executed after.

@leggywillow: Lol, my brother was the same way. Then again, he was ten at the time. He kept asking me to do the conversations to maximize influence since he wanted everyone to like him.

My other brother, though...he never realized Wynne was a companion since he brought Morrigan and he thought Bethany HAD to die since he had no reason to bring Anders to the Deep Roads. I think he got off lucky with Wynne.

Guys if you've got the saves for the scenes why not make some videos and put them up? I am dying to hear/see some of things you have been talking about!

Anyway, I was playing last night as an mHawke romancing Anders. Why is it that the dudes get an awesome romance and the moment my Lady Hawke flirts she gets the all angsty-pants from him?

It's like Bioware sent out a warning to the fangirls that they will cry pixel tears by the end but seriously!! The male romance is so much better....I wanted my Lady Hawke to experience that, not the "stay away.....please...I will hurt you~". I liked that you get to see a much more light hearted Anders, a la Awakenings for a slight moment.

Now I'm excited because I'm playing mHawke and working on the romancing there. :: cackle ::

It just makes the DOOOOM downswing that much stronger, since it didn't start off on that note (well, at least in terms of how he acts toward Hawke, he did just get finished killing an ex-lover).

Well I can't remember what I chose at the beginning but he was getting sad panda on me about Karl, to which I said something like "let's get back to flirting.." lol So unsensitive but my mHawke is an ****.

I'd rather have started with that light hearted note though for the romance. I was getting depressed as Lady Hawke just talking to him the first time. It seemed more reasonable that he deteriorated with time vs Awakening ends, moody Anders forever. I thought there was a bit more progression in the male romance.

I want everyone to like me too! Or hate me.

It's part of the whole plan for each playthrough. Only the first was completely off the cuff and oh GAWDS, what a mess I made of it all. I'm surprised I didn't accidentally sleep with Fenris and then Anders... I was so casual with my FLIRTY FLIRT FLIRT you sexy beasts! (except the girls, Isabela is not my taste and I got Merrill towards the very end of act 1 when I started to grasp WTH is going on, lol... she seemed so innocent too, felt a little pervy to have a thing for her, haha)

Yeah Anders romance is rather depressing. I wouldn't change da2 but there were a few moments when I missed my happily ever after of da:o, eating cheese and annoying nobles with the king.

I skip dialogue the second or third time I play, unless it's some quest or dialogue I find interesting or don't remember....

Tell me about depressing. *looks at sig*

@Pseudocognition: What about Angelus?

I guess but it's not similar enough to me to make me think of Buffy/Angel. Which is good, I suppose.

Then again as I've said Justice reminds me more of Tyler Durden than Angelus, but without leadership skills. And other... significant differences.

The more I read the threads, the more I'm convinced that an Anders rivalmance is never going to happen for me. It's just depressing sounding, even though he's adorable when he reads his manifesto. There should have been a friendly version where you can correct his grammar or something.

* is being a dork and reading the forums on her phone at work *

Oh Maker. I just don't have it in me to rivalmance Anders. I'm too pro-mage, and I could not take those Anders eyes looking at me all accusing and betrayed. I have a hard time just watching the videos. *is a big dork*

I thought I had a really happy ending to my first playthrough -- Hawke and Anders on the run together, fugitives for setting the Kirkwall mages free, fighting for a better world.

I'm trying to rivalmance Fenris now, but damn Anders and his sexy, tortured self. It's not helping that I've been reading this thread and what people say about Anders always having a thing for Hawke even if you don't romance him. It's like, I'll be hurting him if I don't romance him!!! *wibbles*

Are we talking about the movie version or book version?  Because Anders is distractingly sexy enough without me thinking about Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in connection to him as well.

Fangirling is a tiring job. I have to say I really like my mHawke and Anders. I would even like my mHawke as a LI.

The more I hear about mHawke/Anders, the more I'm pissed that a) they didn't include the Karl revelation in the fHawke game and B) that they chose Boulton to voice mHawke. He sounds so much like Vaughan that it makes me a little sick to my stomach to hear him.

Boo-hoo.

Aww, Surely. As I've mentioned before, I thought it was gonna be a problem for me but it's super easy to disassociate Boulton from Vaughan since a) I played city elf origin about 3 times in total and Vaughan's voice never really stuck in my mind and B) Hawke doesn't sound and isn't all rapey and gross. Think of Ser Bryant or Arl Bryland instead :kissing:

I was playing a male DoucheHawke (very out of character for me, sarcastic with a sprinkle of goodie-two-shoes is definitely going to be my usual MO) and that's when he sounds most like Vaughn. I might abandon him and DoucheHawke it as a lady instead as a result. Otherwise, I agree, he's not too Vaughn-y.

Random Anders-related comment - at the beginning of Act II, when I clicked on Hawke's bed, she said Anders left some of his manifesto there. :D Now I get to imagine Hawke studying (and possibly proof-reading) the manifesto.

It's funny because they're apparently everywhere in the Hawke mansion. The fireplace, book case. desk, bed....lol

My Hawke is like.."is he hiding them everywhere or something..."

Oh....Anders.....

I don't think Douche Hawke sounds like Vaughn.

...then again I thought Vaughn sounded like he was forcing it. Douche Hawke sounds pretty natural to me.
