Then...don't? You shouldn't force yourself if you're gonna hate it and it makes you don't want to play the game. 

You can rival him and romance someone else if that makes it easier. 

Edit: That said I find it most enjoyable to rivalmance him with snarky Hawke.

I feel your pain.  However rivalmancing Fenris is great!

You got me curious with this. I believe the Spanish would be; Señor de muchos salto. But don't quote me on that, I'm not a native speaker! Not sure that it works, it sounds like he has too much salt!

Yeah, you're braver than me, Elle. I can't make myself rival Anders at all, romance or not. Aside from the whole crushing-his-spirit (double meaning intentional), I just can't stop myself from wanting to fight the templars and hang little pro-mage banners up and down the estate halls.

Don't see what good science is when you're not enjoying yourself. I don't force myself to do the friendshipmance because I don't find it enjoyable. Or sell out Izzy (I just don't recruit her) or sell out Fenris. 

Part of the fun to me for science playthroughs is finding something I enjoy doing. If I don't enjoy it then...eh what's the point? 

That's just me though. 

Edit: I might force myself to do a for science playthrough if I want to write a fic from a certain POV but that's pretty much it. 

Most of my for science playthroughs are things I'm only minorly opposed too. If I really get to the point where I can't play the game becuse of it...I stop because it's probably not worth it and even when I'm done I'm not gonna have an impartial judgement.

 I can't do that. I can barely force myself through one playthrough as a DN. DE was horrible for me I got up to Tamlen before I threw my hands in the air. (The meeting him as a shriek). 

If you want to rival Anders without being a douche...well aggressive Hawke is pretty much the worst way to do that. 

Play diplomatic Hawke and rival Anders. Aggressive Hawke is pretty much the biggest dick in the game.  I love my aggressive Hawke...but he's a massive dick. Aggressive Hawke in a rivalrymance is pretty much only non-dickish to Fenris and that's more because Fenris takes it in stride.

My favorite part of the Rivalmance with snarky Hawke is this exchange, which I'm probably badly misquoting.

"There's no one in Kirkwall I wouldn't kill to see mages free. What would you have said if I told you that?"
"Probably not 'great, let's go.'" 

Ugh, Snarky Rival Hawke, that is so adorable. Also, it's totally something my Diplomatic Friend Hawke would have LIKED to have been able to say. Because honestly, Anders honey, that isn't justice. That's just crazy.

That said, I'm one of those people who can't rivalmance him, myself. I have one of my ultra-complex analytical character theories about it, that I'm too lazy to get in to right here. Essentially I feel like the Justice/Anders hybrid is what we have to deal with at this point, and forcing him to fight with himself isn't going to help, long term.

I wish that there had been a way to... see if you could fix Anders by making Justice more Justice-y and less Vengeance-y. Original Justice was reasonable, and could display kindness and mercy. I mean the Chantry would still have gone up, but I'm pretty ok with that, at this point.

I like to make different PCs to make different choices, but my choices only vary to a point. Forcing myself to make choices I don't enjoy just for the sake of doing them kills my enjoyment of the game. If I'm not having any fun, why play? I'll never experience everything the game has to offer, but I'm just fine with that.

So, it'll always be frienders for me.

O_O I am jealous. I technically have 4 and a bit languages under my belt, but it's been so long since I used any other than Spanish (and English obviously), and I'm so rustyyy! Anyway, point being, Spanish = awesome!

I'm having trouble making a Fenris romance playthrough, because Anders needs me more damnit.

I'm also considering playing through Awakenings again to see him freaking happy. I was looking at the DA:A Anders thread a bit earlier and everyone is like "I him, he's so happy and sweet and kind." Oh tragedy's knife! Why?

Agreed YamiSnuffles. 

Well replace frienders with rivalry and yeah we're in the same boat. 

I love romancing Fenris as well. It's always torture to decide between them. Well not really torture because I default to Fenris romance if I plan on friending Anders. 

But I love both the Fenris friendship and rivalrymance. I wish I could take my favorite elements of both and mash them together. Alas.

You can at least get it all over over with in one act. Pinky was a complete meaniehead to him in act 1 and got him to 100!% rival. After that I could be more diplosnark than aggrosnark. I still love his response to the diplomatic answer on his second questioning beliefs. He turns into Sten for a few seconds

I am the same way.  I went through Origins and never spared Loghain(?) me personally, What he did hit to close to my character.  Which I think is why Anders actions bothered me less.  Anders did kill off almost all my order have me labeled a traitor and have me hunted.  He lied to me to keep my hands as clean as possible, so I was labled such, and was ready for me to exact Justice for those killed by his actions. 

basically,(my point got lost) Anders actions didn't seem as personal to Hawke, where I felt Loghains was, mostly with HN, because then there is this whole Howe thing.

Is there even much of a difference between a rival romance and a friendship romance with Fenris? Apart from the wall throwing scene and getting mad when gift giving.

German is what I grew up speaking mostly, English second, even if I was born and grew up in the states.  I honestly like learning new languages, however the aisan ones is another story.  Also Russian is another story

I'm fixin to start a new playthrough with a snarky mage who is pro mage all the way . I plan to rivalmance Fenris and friendmance Anders. It should prove interesting. I'm gonna give Fenris the snub went he walks out on me-lol
