No. It's impossible to have a friendmanced Anders side with the templars.

Yeah his crisis is a one way street, which makes sense for him.

That's what I thought. *nod* It's too bad, really, but the friendship/rivalry thing is mainly how much your views align, and it wouldn't make sense to go through the whole game "agreeing" with him and then expect him to change his mind at the end. ^^; Though it's funny how Hawke's views can change but I got to 100% friendship with Anders almost right away in Act 2 (he's soooo easy to friend...) so even though Hawke sees things differently, it's impossible to get to rivalry with the man after that.
I just don't know whether to execute him, which he'd see as justice anyway, or wait until he turns on me. T_T;; I just don't.
BTW Ryzaki, I approve your anti-ninjamancing for ME3 tag.

"Andersing," I replied.
"Anders is a verb now?" he queried.
::beat::
"Not only a verb. The Most. Awesome. Verb. Ever."

It's bad because it means that I was unable to remove the trojan that has infected my computer, making it unusable. I'm trying one last-ditch effort, but if that doesn't work, I have to take it to the shop. So I'll be drawing. Yay?

My son asked me to google Zone of the Enders earlier after I informed him he'd finally be able to get the second game next year....I was mildly dismayed to see there was no 'Zone of the Anders'. My son informed me that I was truly obsessed if I was automatically typing his name.

Only thing that urks me on that is if you get Fenris to 100 rivalry he will side with the mages. That bothers me because he hates mages! I mean hates them, and it isn't like you are best buds with him on the rival path.

I guess he just respects you enough to trust your decision, or to not go against you because then the both of you would have to hash it out and...come on...we all know Hawke can kick Fenris' ass. Fenris is avoiding an ass-kicking is all. XD

I honestly think executing him is better. You get that great line, if you do it.
"For what it's worth, I'm glad it's you. It was nice to be happy... for a while."
Feels like more of a proper goodbye. I just wish you could at least sit with him until he died, or actually say goodbye, or at the very least catch him as he falls or something... but those are unlikely scenarios for a small, small group of people. Still, that line... so great.

@Amondra Yeah, but you're not asking Fenris to kill slaves. He hates mages but it's not the central thing about him. SLAVERY is the big thing.
Ahh good point.

But the rivalry as I've seen it explained isn't just disagreeing, it's getting them to question their own views. Like with Anders on rivalry, he gets to the point where he begins to believe he's been wrong all along, and he's ready to undo what he did before the Chantry blows up, but then Justice is all ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL and stops him from it. Because inherently everyone respects Hawke. Merrill, also, on full rivalry mentions how Hawke has been right about everything, and in the final battle siding with the Templars she says something like, "I'll stick with you. I owe you that much."
Also, being full rivalry or friendship with a companion means that you've very likely done their quests and given them their gifts and all of that. So, you've basically been there for them, even if they disagree with you on things. That lends itself to them feeling loyal to you and/or trusting your judgment even if it's just because you've proven them wrong.

Ah, yes, I love that line. It's so poignant. ;o; And I agree about him dying... I don't like the animation for that at all, anyway. There's no sound-effect for the knife, and it's just a little pathetic jab into the side and blam he falls over. Maybe it's just personal preference, but it would have been more dramatic to go in through the back into his heart. A morbid thing to contemplate, isn't it...
It would, of course, be nice if you could, as you say, sit with him. Correm would do it. ;o; Waahh. Poor Anders... everything he's ever tried to do in his life has gone wrong somehow...

If only Hawke had something better to say than YOU HAVE TO PAY when you kill him on the friendship route.
There are so many cases where they could have made what Hawke says different for cases like that depending on whether he/she is diplomatic/sarcastic/aggressive, or whether you're friends or not. That's the thing... they do do it enough, that in places where they don't it's jarring. Like in the Anders sex scene, he asks to move in and Hawke can say, "Want a sandwich? :D" Ha ha funny, I like that response personally. But then when Hawke says "yes" to Anders moving in, it's all, "I want you with me. Until the day we die." Like whaaaaaat? Would Hawke really say that right after making a joke about a sandwich??

I also think that the end theme works well for Anders on the path I'm taking... Friendmancing and then executing him. The whole "I love you so much I'm gonna let you kill me". A little too literal, but when it was playing the game for the first time, and going through all that, and then hearing that song, I just burst into tears. ^^
Are you planning on posting your playlists when you're done? <3

I don't know why even a super diplomatic Hawke would say that either
I know, right? Why not something like, "I'm sorry, but you must face justice for what you've done." And Anders would be all, "You speak the truth. u_u But my goal has been accomplished anyway."
The game is great, but I think everyone who loves it to pieces can still agree that they rushed some things and shouldn't have. I wonder if they rushed it so that it would come out with enough of a gap in time before ME3 came out? I can completely imagine them not wanting to release the two around the same time. Need to give space for patches and DLC for DA2 before everyone has a Shepardgasm this fall.

I still can't read or hear that quote without feeling totally heartbroken. I remember the first time I experienced it, in an effort to explore every possible ending.

I love that second one. I agree, it's eerily fitting for an Anders rivalmance, especially when you listen to the lyrics. (Love that band, too.)

Not to be a total party pooper, but if
your going to kill Anders, and Love him.. oh this song... so tragic. The
whole epic tragic love/romance that is Anders is quite beautiful in
many ways. And isn't there an Anders playlist someone has already on
Grooveshark? I think it has some great songs. I'm actually making a
Fenris playlist (or revising it), and keep finding Anders songs in my
library. Go figure, LOL. Now, epic sadness warning...
That's a really beautiful one, too. Is there an Anders playlist? I'll have to go look now! I've been collecting some songs that remind me of him, too. These are two that strongly remind me of him:
- Map of the Problematique by Muse
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3TbpajRJlA - Hurricane by 30 Seconds to Mars
The lyrics for both of these totally make my heart ache in the worst way, but they're two of my staple "I need writing inspiration" songs.
