It's great to see all you kids today with your modern music, and I've been enjoying all those recommendations, but when it comes to Anders I always find myself going more old school, focusing on rock/pop/folk from the 60s and 70s.

My newest "discovery" in that vein is Paul Simon's American Tune

Sorry to interrupt the great song listings, but I just rivalmanced Anders and sided with the Templars and... and I don't think that he lives much longer past that, even if you convince him to make it better. The epilogue with Varric explaining what happened to the rest of Hawke's companions doesn't include the line: "Well, all of us except for Anders." I mean, I understand that he probably would've, but--

Guess no matter whether I rival or friendmance him, I'll be siding with the mages!

On all dialogue paths, he says "If I die during the battle or afterward, know that I always loved you." That's paraphrased slightly because I can't remember the exact quote, but it is very, very close. If you choose the purple "We'll probably die," he literally says "I cannot live past this."

How could he say it more plainly?

That to me doesn't mean he's gonna kill himself. More like he expects to be killed. 

The "I cannot live past this." is far more of a "I'll kill myself." line but as said you only get it when choosing the humor dialogue. 

Though I'm glad they did it this way. It leaves it open to interpretation.

That explains it then. I only got the "If I die - now or later" bit since I chose the special dialogue about getting through all of that together.

Feels like more of a proper goodbye. I just wish you could at least sit with him until he died, or actually say goodbye, or at the very least catch him as he falls or something... but those are unlikely scenarios for a small, small group of people. Still, that line... so great.

I still can't read or hear that quote without feeling totally heartbroken. I remember the first time I experienced it, in an effort to explore every possible ending. I don't think I've ever had a line in a game impact me so deeply as that specific one. I agree it's a great line, if not painfully beautiful.

Ah. Well, I cannot bring myself to kill him. Watched it on YouTube, yes, and I had actual tears in my eyes. Which is ridiculous, because I don't do that sort of thing. It's not me. I'm a bit of an Alistair in that regard.

Did anyone mention Resistance by Muse btw? That's the quintessential Anders song for me

That givethemhorns piece is still my favorite Anders/M!Hawke. I just love how faithful they are to the game. Has anybody else noticed that it's Freedom's Call that mage!Hawke wields in Varric's prologue? Man, I so wish that staff had better stats. I would simply love to let Anders keep it through the whole game. If only because I like how Varric associates Anders with Hawke by default.
