I agree.  I like both voices.  When I first heard Cullen, I went "EEEEEE!  It's the real Anders! ::huggles::".  But Adam Howden really grew on me.  I think he has a very cute voice.

They don't sound to terribly different in tone and pitch. Its more additude that is different, and Anders has been through a lot in the few months between killing insane broodmothers and playing 'flirt with the queen', and running away to become the Vengers we know and love ;> I actually cringe at the Cullen-anders in awakening now because I can only hear Adam's voice in my head when anders talks ;p

Please for the love of the Maker, let Kaidan push Avery up against the bulkhead like that.

But you know... when they're alone.  She is a commander, after all.

Me too. It's funny, when i started my first DA2 game I remember ranting to my boyfriend about how Anders' voice was all wrong. By the time I got to Act 3 I was raving about it. Awakening Anders sounds so smarmy and cartoony to me now.

There's the occasional line I think falls a little flat or feels a bit forced, especially some of the joke-ish lines, but the way i see it, Anders doesn't have a lot of birth left in him, so it follows that his attempts at light hearted might sometimes be awkward.

Yup. I can rationalise anything! :D

I"ve done a little more research on the Rite and I'm getting off the fence on his side.

Heh, that's exactly how I see it too. Maybe it is actually intentional? Who knows?

Anyway I asked this on the last page but no one replied. What does Anders say before the final battle if you spared him but didn't romance him? :wizard:

No one knows because no one can resist the power of our scruffy Anders.  Maybe Jennifer did not even bother writing a line!

I feel like barging in to share this song. I found it ridiculously appropriate to Anders, particularly if he was romanced.

Although I hate that *he* had to do it, I understand the reasoning for a big, dramatic gesture.  He is a revolutionary.  He doesn't want to negotiate, he wants unconditional freedom for all mages.  The Chantry isn't going to just roll over and let that happen.  So a war needs to happen.  I don't love the idea of innocents being murdered for this cause, but the Divine was already going to take action.  Innocents were bound to die in Kirkwall no matter what.

So basically, I support the mages cause, but I wish there had been a less bloody way of supporting them.

Hehe, I mentioned the Arcade Fire version back before the game came out, when someone was compiling a playlist for Anders.  The lyrics are terribly appropriate.

I like the Arcade Fire version, but PG's version makes me want to cry. Like Anders does.

Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt."

Fits that space between the fight with Hawke and the bombing.

I don't suppose they could share this playlist? Or, if anyone knows of any more songs that fit(especially a friendmance), I'd love to hear. I'm in need of an Anders playlist. Posted Image makes trying to draw him easier. I have That one ^^^ now, and someone had mentioned a song by Skylar Grey... any others?

I'm conflicted about it. I understand his point of view, and maybe he's right, maybe there is no chance for compromise. It's just difficult for me to give carte blanche support to that kind of action, however just the cause or righteous the intentions. That being said, once it's done, it's done, and I have a hard time turning on him for it because I do sympathise with the mages, where I feel no such solidarity with the Templar Order or the Chantry at large. And Hawke -- I -- ignored all the warning signs and flashing lights along the way. Hardly seems fair to abandon him when I brought it as much upon myself as anything. :P

But dude, my house was in Hightown. My stuff is up there. My stuff!

http://listen.groove.../43887143?src=5 is the link to the playlist from the Official Anders thread. Some great songs in there. :)  It's kind of fascinating to hear the wide range of song styles that people have found some resonance with.

IIRC, it's pretty similar.  You just don't get the "someone like me can love someone like you" line or the "our children" line.  And obviously he doesn't invite you to be the Bonnie to his Clyde.  I think you just get a line about how awesome a friend Hawke is.

Here is my two cents on it all...

Now we all agree that Anders/Justice gets progressively worse through out the game especially from Act II to Act III. But I think this is due to his observations and things going on that we don't necessarily see as players. For example he notices more and more mages are becoming made Tranquil. You can't forget that Meredith has this lyrium idol thing that made Bartrand nuts, torturing and murdering his servants. In Varric's personal quest in Act II to find his brother we clearly see what a PIECE of that idol was capable of doing. How many mages and quite possibly templars (ones who went against her) do you imagine Meredith killed? Unfortunately in the game we don't get to see this. But we see Anders blow up the Chantry so I believe it has much more of an impact on us. I'm not saying by any means what he did was right but I can see why he was pushed to that. Who knows what was going on inside the Circle Tower and I imagine more lives were lost in it than in the Chantry explosion. I'd like a number at how many innocent mages (especially children...the game doesn't show it but we can assume they were there) have been killed and made tranquil (for no reason) during all this. I have the feeling it is very high in numbers. Meredith was already hard on the mages to begin with (due to her own personal experience) so pair that with some sort of lyrium idol that makes you crazy, and you have a dangerous combination (kind of like Anders and Justice...lol). This could even explain the abundance of blood mages, I mean after all they were all pent up with Meredith and her crazy idol. It was probably a madhouse, literally.

Both Meredith and Sebastian had the person who blew up the Chantry standing in front of them and neither did anything. Both could have easily killed Anders right there on the spot. But both decided that they will go after ALL mages and wage war against them.

With that being said those factors and my first playthrough with Bethany (good mage but treated like crap because she is one) I had to somewhat side with him. I don't believe killing innocents is the way to go, but in war there are always casualties. And this is considered war to me. I made a post about this earlier, innocents have died through out history in struggles for freedom.

LOL!  This is a very serious concern.

Hawke: NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Sebastian: I know!  The loss of life... so tragic!
Hawke: The hell are you talking about?  My house is in there!  What about my creepy Tevinter statue, huh?!
Anders: Don't be so dramatic.  You hated that statue.

Right??? Boy better have packed a trunk with the important things and placed it by the cellar door or something. If Hawke is going to go full on fugitive/revolutionary, she should at least have some reminders of her life before crazy.

As for agreeing...maybe? My Hawke is freaked out by it, because it's like one minute she's thinking "Oh, time for me to get caught in the middle of another squabble between Meredith and Orisino that will only end in a deadlock!" and the next her boyfriend is glowing and the Chantry is exploding and she helped.

After that, it all falls into place. She knew something was up, and she was feeling like whatever it was was going to be HUGE, but I don't think she knew how it would feel in that moment, personally. To know the loss of life and the fury caused by that, to know that the man she loved was going to be vilified and most likely killed for what he'd done, to know the heights of desperation he must have felt to have come to the conclusion that an act so extreme was the best solution. It was shocking and overwhelming, but she got what she wanted in the end. Sort of.

Besides, it was all very inevitable. From the moment Flemeth showed up, there was a shadow looming in the distance and her life was never going to be normal for it. So she made her decisions and she'll try very hard not to regret them as she continues to run and fight for mages while hoping that Anders finds some measure of peace in doing the same.

Yea that was me that said it. I was having a Ferris Bueller moment. I also mentioned putting Free Ser Pounce A Lot on the back of the shirt
