Also, if you don't go pro-mage in the final battle, you don't hear Varric's breathy little "Thank the Maker." Oh Varric, a true bro to the end. If you had been a romance option, I would have been so sorely tempted.

Sorry I know it's off topic but are you talking about right after you choose the option to side with the mages or literally in the final, final battle? Because the only breathy "Thank the Maker" I ever heard I was sure was coming from Orsino. If I'm somehow missing out on delicious Varric dialouge I will be one sad kitty :crying:

Oh I would get Top wouldn't I, lol

Augh. This "intend to rivalmance Anders" playthrough may end up friendmancing Fenris instead =/ The blunt Hawke compliments him so well. D:

I have a hard time going anti-mage though, and I'm not sure I can make myself do another playthrough like this >_O;

Yes blunt Hawke and Fenris friendmance is sexy. I love how Fenris just takes blunt Hawke's rudeness all in stride.

oh my god what.

I'm rivaling anders for the first time since the patch fixed the ending. i'm romancing isabela and have not picked a flirt line(except for the "we must have other things in common!" line because I didn't think it'd trigger the romance) with him but he has apparently been aching for this hawke.
why you make everything complicated anders.

edit:

Hawke: There is nothing between us understand bro?
Anders: Perfectly.
BUT I SWEAR I WON'T EVER STOP TALKING ABOUT THE CIRCLES YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THE LAST OF ME!

 That's hysterical. Almost makes me want to rival him, for science.

The rival path actually gets you some really good lines from him and not all of them are necessarily from being an ass either. Glad there was a path that let me avoid the romance bits and get a good part of that nice dialogue.
Don't know why he was acting like this Hawke spent her time putting her hands down his panties though >_> I must of chosen one flirt line way back in the beginning of the game or something

I'll try the rivalmance after this eventually. isabela had been calling to me for so long.

Yes he is... in the sexy rebel mage robes. I like my men Terrible and Great.
I wish I lived in a video game. Real life is so bland by comparison.

Of all the characters' introductions in DA2, Anders' was the most powerful one, in my opinion, maybe alongside Aveline's. It quicky introduced us to Anders' underground world and it gave us a brief but every effective glimpse to Justice. The voice actor also did a top-notch job in this scene. Great stuff! :)

Agreed. It's a great establishing character moment. We see Anders as a healer, Anders as a protector of the weak, and Anders as a tortured soul all in the span of about 10 seconds before he even says anything. And then of course, we get his humor and personality as well as the dark undercurrent in the dialogue itself.

It's also pretty much the opposite of his entrance in Awakening, which is of course him using destructive magic, being all skirty and flirt deflecting like crazy. The first time I saw the intro video for him in DA2 I had just met him in Awakening (for the millionth time, but it was fresh) and I remember thinking "I must know what the **** has happened to my apostate."

This is true, and something I hadn't really considered. It's interesting that in DAA, where Anders is more of an easier-to-categorize "good" guy, his introduction shows him as destructive and self-deprecating. Yet in DA2, where morally he's more questionable, the very first shot of him shows him as a healer, the stereotypical "white hat" of RPG stock characters.

I think sometimes it's easy to forget Anders' role as a healer (and not just in the sense of gameplay or party dynamics, but as someone who is dedicated to aiding others) in favor for looking at him as strictly a revolutionary. When really he's both, and these are two very conflicting ideals, which plays along quite nicely with the idea of Anders being something of a contradiction in many respects. Healer and killer, idealist and terrorist.

Okay, this point wandered away from me somewhat. This is what happens when you read too much James Joyce. ;)

I love it when you're recruiting Fenris and Hawke points out that Anders is a healer and a Grey Warden. In my head, that's why my canon Hawke falls for him, because when people need help he just helps them and doesn't expect anything back. I imagine she points this out to Fenris every time he goes on an anti-Anders tirade.

Last night as I dozed off I also thought about Rylock's line to Anders during his personal quest in Awakening when she says "I do not know how you inspire such loyalty, Anders, but it will avail you naught." It made me laugh because...she has no idea.

I dont know if they should have put cross class combos in DA2.
Makes the game so easy.

Fenris staggers a mob, then Anders chain lightnings it.
Anders brittles a mob then Fenris crushes them.
Varric disorients and my S&S smashes it.

That dragon on top of Sundermount in act 2?
Cake.

Went down in under 1:30.

I still find it funny that a possessed rebel mage, a mage hating broody elf, a berserker with extreme anger issues, and a dwarf bard make such a kick ass team.

I don't think I've gotten that one because I'm usually a mage, so Fenris is more concerned with me. Or maybe I don't have Anders with me at the right time (I love hearing Carver stick up for his brother when Fenris flips, so my normal group for this is Fenris, Carver, and Varric once I hit the part when Fenris is forced into the party).

Ah, I love all the little things about DAA that can be read as foreshadowing.
