Ehh~

Doing Act 3, just finished getting the stuff to make Anders' "laser beam" for the Chantry.
I find it interesting that even Hawke mentions at the end when he's asking you to distract the Grand Cleric that,

1. I will help you even though you're blackmailing our love/friendship
2. I will not help you because you're blackmailing our love/friendship

I also find it amusing and sad he tells me I can't care for him and not support his cause.
Well Anders, my love, I don't support your methods.

He's also waaay merged with Justice by this point. He rants about "him" being the cause and I have Justice to blame for that because one thing is doing something drastic for his cause another is to self-proclaim that "he" is the cause. Want to start a new cult Anders?

Anyway I found that whole conversation at the end of the Justice quest to be pretty messed up but at this point Anders has become one with Justice. I mean the crap he was saying sounded so "Justice-like".

Also when I went to distract the Grand Cleric and I was talking to her about the mages, she obviously has some fault for claiming neutrality but I did understand when she says out of the conflict between Orsino and Meredith, the citizens were going to suffer and that includes mages and templars. I don't know I think her endeavor of wanting peace wasn't such a crazy idea. It's obvious Meredith was a lunatic and made things worse.

It wasn't too hard to figure out he'd be doing something like this eventually.  I think in Act 1when you tell him "I don't want you to lose yourself to the Templars or Justice," and he replies "When you strip those away, how much is left" or something like that.   His delirium at the end at the end of the Justice quest was the result of him feeling what a spirit feels when it completes its purpose -- Justice achieving what he perceived to be "Justice" validates his existence and he is joyful.  And because Anders and Justice's thoughts are the same, Anders, in turn, feels this jubiliation.

I think the manipulation of Hawke was an attempt of Justice to sever whatever bonds they had.  Thus, Anders was pretty certain that Hawke would kill him because of it.

Anders was always the cause of the mages.

Would they exclusively be worn by people who would have made Anders himself facepalm?  You know, like Che shirts?

I wear my House Targaryen t-shirt out of the house (on the weekends, at least) without the fear that people will mistakenly believe that I support a family of incestous, psychotic despots.  I think I'd be okay with whatever people think of this one.

The problem is that she won't even take a small step. Really, removing Meredith and citing allegations from templars under her command would have done wonders to alleviate the tension. And Orsino's plan to replace the Viscount is also totally sensible, yet it's waved off because Meredith thinks she's the only one who can keep Kirkwall safe and to even agree with Orsino would, I guess, seem like she's choosing the mages' side. As it is, the current downward spiral is harming more and more innocents every day.

The more I play, the more I deeply dislike Elthina.

Side note... the foreshadowing in Act 3 about what's coming is hilarious. I just did the Justice quests. I get a huge cackle (now) from Anders's dialogue when you ask about the ingredients and the "Tevinter potion".

Hawke: Is it just a potion? Is there anything more to this...ritual?
Anders: No, no ritual. Just mix the ingredients together, and...boom! :wizard:

That's so evil, I can't believe Gaider didn't write it.

Ugh, I also get more annoyed with Elthina the further I get from my first playthrough. Why can't anyone listen to Orsino's suggestion that they find a new viscount? Seriously? What would it have hurt to do that? It's not like that would be siding with the mages. It would just be acting sensibly. Honestly, it's just one of countless ways the Grand Cleric could have gotten involved even if she wanted to maintain neutrality. Heck, she could have kicked out Meredith and still been neutral because mages, Templars, and normal citizens all had problems with her.

I've pointed out to people before that Che would disapprove. They get awkward. And I do so enjoy when these people aren't entirely sure about who he is and what he's done, too.

I hope Anders gets Ser Pounce-a-lot back in either DLC or DA3. It would be heart-breaking for me if he never got to reunite with him.

Also, do we get the scene where Anders talks about how jubilant the spirit is after the Justice quest during friendship?  I can only remember seeing it after rivalry for some reason.

It's obvious Justice wants to severe that relationship with Hawke so that Anders can focus on the task at hand.
I would not call it however a revolucion yet. It all felt pretty messy and it became more of the actions of a possessed desperate mage, than the actions of a man or group of people wanting to fight for a cause, for freedom. I think Justice's ego and corruption did not let him see that it would have an even better/greater impact if he had rallied together mages and kind of get everyone to jump on "let's free mages" wagon. He did it all on his own and everyone didn't even know what the heck was happening. It feels like Justice or Anders, I don't know which, wanted to embody the cause. But that cause is not Anders' alone. This cause is of ALL mages. I don't know if that should have been his decision to make.

Mages were probably left wondering what the hell they're being accused of or why they're being hunted for the actions of one mage. I think that was the problem.

Justice "made" Anders the cause but I don't think Anders should be the cause.

Anyway I would've helped him if he had organized it better or let me rally people together to fight for their freedom. I don't mind being part of a revolucion. It hits home for me since my family comes from places where you had to fight to survive for a cause. It just seemed so unorganized and I'm having a hard time thinking mages will get a chance to be free.

No I can see where she's at fault for not trying to hold back Meredith or helping replace the Viscount, which I think should be something that would have kept Meredith in check a bit longer but I don't think she deserved to die.

Ugh~ It annoys me when people wear things like that or of Che and don't even know what he stands for. I don't think
people realize how much of a difference he made for Latin America or what those actions entail but oh well, that's pop culture for you.

I really doubt there could have been a peaceful solution so long as the Chantry held the templars' reins. Maybe things would have eased up on the mages if Grand Cleric had sided with the mages, but that's only returning to the status quo, not the mage's freedom. That's not peace, especialy if you're a mage :/

EDIT: but then, i always over identify with the mages in this series, so i'm a bit biased

The Rite of Annulment was in her hands and if you talk to her on your distraction duties for Anders, she admits to being anti-mage.

She goes boom.  Also, I discovered the other day a named NPC Templar (the one at the base of the steps in the Gallows, near Cullen) says that the Rite's been sent for by Meredith and that "those robes will get what's coming to them" in his ambient dialogue.  I was about to turn in the quest to Orsino for "Best Served Cold."  (It may be a bug, but I doubt it; I seem to be finding all of them in this run.)

Elthina goes boom.
