I don't want to alienate anyone from ever discussing ANYTHING with me because of something I said at 3 o'clock in the morning and couldn't properly articulate.

I've seen people comment multiple times that the Anders thread is open to all kinds of opinions, and that people are welcoming here and all of that, and I hope that can hold true. This is why I felt free to say something like that. I'll allow that my comment makes it seem like I'm against a certain kind of relationship, which is absolutely not the case. It was a stupid thing to say, and I'm sorry for any offense. I like it (not "prefer") partly because of the extra dynamic of them vs the world, which interests me. Also other reasons I won't get into.

So I'll just reiterate... I don't want to ****** anyone off or make them unwilling to engage in discourse with me because of something I threw on here at the delerious hour of 3 o'clock in the morning. So consider this an apology.

@beckaliz - You discuss whatever you want to discuss, I just know it's a topic which brings out unbridled rage in me so I know well enough to keep out of it because I will get nasty. And I'm far too pretty to let anyone see me get nasty. Posted Image

Which is perfectly fine. The safest way to go, maybe, is to simply state one's preference without explaining why, because that's where those particular long, tiring and rage-inducing discussions tend to start. I'm sure this was not your intention.

And don't worry about it :)  I'm certain no one holds it against you.

Well. :\\ I know I can. My point stands... I don't want to make anyone unwilling to talk to me about other stuff based on something that I said at 3am that doesn't even relate to the game. (In point of fact, my Shepard is a girl, my Warden is a girl, and I have two girl Hawkes... So like I said it was a stupid, untrue comment. 9_9 And I've been known in the past to say stupid stuff when I'm that tired.)

Thanks. ^^ And yeah, I guess I haven't spent enough time on forums in general to have sufficiently learned that lesson. D: Now I have! ehehehe... 6_6

(Oh, and sorry I haven't replied to your note yet! I get wrapped up in other stuff and hate spending too much of my day on the computer... I have four fics open in different tabs that have been sitting there for days waiting for me to read them, and another one sitting on my phone's browser that's even older! Not to mention both an Anders and a Fenris playlist... I'm horrible.)

It's all right  Reply whenever you wish - I'm fairly laidback when it comes to things like that. Though I was sort of worried that my rage-rant had scared you away. :P

Everyone says stupid stuff on the internetz - that's why it's so much fun. Posted Image It's not like anyone is going to blackball you - so sorry if my comment sounded like that. I have flashpoint topics which occassionally come up and I just decide to sit them out rather than get angry with people I can't see. I mean where's the fun if you can't see them crying? Like Queen-of-Stuff said, opinions are welcome but you can't expect people to not take issue with them if your justifications are...controversial or demeaning.

And, unfortunately, things that whiff of sexism set me off. It's something I've been seeing more and more of around the fandom and as  this is a safe place for me, too, I feel fairly obligated to be an ass about it. I apologize (but I'm not going to stop being an ass about it).

Maybe I should change my profile picture? XD I think perhaps people think I'm a guy?... rofl. A fair assumption if you're like me and have a hard time scooting over to read the name. And a fair assumption based on my comment. D:

This is Aniselle... she is currently my only Hawke that sides with the Mages. T___T

What's funny is, at some point early on (I'm not sure if it's Act 1 or during Anders's first Questioning Beliefs) she can tell him "You are going somewhere I cannot follow", which eliminates him as a romance option. (I had to do it because he's just so sweet and I wanted to rivalmance Fenris with her and knew I wouldn't be able to resist the tragic mage man if I didn't). So, later in the game there's a conversation and the "diplomatic" or "nice" option is completely gone, unavailable. It's obviously where there used to be a flirt prompt. They forced me to make a joke instead if I didn't want to say something blunt. *smacks forehead*

Does anyone else find it odd that Anders says a lot of the same things to a completely platonic but friendly Hawke that he does to a flirting Hawke?

Nope.  He's in love with Hawke either way.

Do you think that's some kind of backlash from the ever growing prevalence of female gamers maybe?

...............

Here's some Anders and Justice... with a different take!

That makes it so sad, not in a pathetic turn-off way for me, but in the way that it makes me want to luvs him back even though he does seem desperate about it.  It's funny how that can hit people in different ways.

I haven't gotten to Act 2 yet with my jerkface!Hawke on super-rivalry, I'm curious to see what that'll be like. I can't remember who it was, maybe it was in the Fenris thread, someone said that they rivaled everybody once and it was really difficult. It was hard for me when I rivaled Anders and friendmanced Fenris with my Tissa Hawke.

And the return to play my female Hawke and female Wardens and my female Sheps and wonder why everything is so goshdarned hard and think "if only Hawke/the Warden/Shep had a penis, then the Chantry wouldn't have exploded/the Blight would have been over at Ostagar/the Reapers would have stayed away after ME."

I doubt the people who prefer m/m are really out to keep f!Hawke down. I don't mean to be a dick or anything, but you sort of seem to have built people who make innocent offhand comments about their preferences into huge boogeymen ascribed with far more malice than is actually there. I get why you'd be so mad about it every time this comes up if they really were the irritating Cousland fangirls who actively beat down anyone who plays a different way, as you seem to like to compare them to, but I don't see that happening at all.

Uh... just to add my two cents... when someone, no matter how sleep deprived, says there's an inherent inequality in an m/f romance, I see red, too.  Especially since that wasn't the first time that sentiment was expressed.

So yeah, I'm with Surely on this one.

the da team would never intentionally write such a poor romance, they get in such a tizz when people make stupid remarks. (not pointing any fingers in this thread). i imagine lots of people heard about dg's rant at a guy who wanted more hetero options. point being that any inequality is either bad writing (but this is bioware), or inequality is inherently part of someone's thought processes - whatever that says about them.

Good.  :)  Then we weren't talking about you.  I'm not saying everyone's doing it, but it's a trend.  And I'm tired of it.  I saw what happened to ta certain DA:O's LI's thread.  I'd prefer to keep this like the Zevran thread.  After all, I've never noticed any inequality on either part of Anders' or Hawke's in the romance, why should we bring our preconceptions into it?

I've learned the lesson now not to try and give my personal reasons for things. So I won't try to get into a personal conversation with the whole forum. ^^;; But what I said, I will state for the record, had absolutely nothing to do with DA or BioWare. If anyone is really interested in my reasons why I like what I do (and I'll repeat... it's not actually a PREFERENCE, it's a taste. and I doubt anyone is interested), they can message me and I'll elaborate.

There's nothing at all wrong with having a preference for m/m romances or stating said preference. But once you go into justifications for why and those justifications are offensive, well, then people take offense. If I said "Oh, I prefer the f/f romance with Merrill", that would be fine, but if I added "because in the m/f romance it seems as if Hawke is taking advantage of her" or something equally silly, I'd expect to get some angry responses.
