This is pretty much the extent of what I said, on Twitter: "For me, Male Hawke is to DA2 what Princess Cousland was to DA. #overrated"

That's pretty straightforward. I think he's overrated. I've explained why before, no need to reiterate. As for m/m anal hurt...no. I haven't hidden the fact that f/m and f/f is my preference when it comes to roleplaying and fanworks, but I KNOW I've never said anything negative about m/m besides it not being enough, on its own, to lure me into playing a male protagonist. One of the reasons I have been vocal when someone ****es about F!Hawke/Anders is because I don't want anyone's preferred pairing to be dismissed or for anyone to feel like they're Doing It Wrong when it comes to loving Anders.

I think it's more specifically that you've compared Anders/m!Hawke fans to princess Cousie fans as if Anders/m!Hawke fans are actively attempting to belittle Anders/f!Hawke when at most I've really seen here is a) half-joking Boulton vs. Wyatt battles, B) the male/female dialogue differences which is just a writing issue and nothing to do with the actual genders involved, or c) someone expressing a largely innocent preference that, at the very worst, has unintended Unfortunate Implications entirely separate from some perceived desire to keep f!Hawke down or **** on people who play her. It's just like, I absolutely do not understand on what planet any of that coincides with the juvenile fanwank that was pweencess Couscous. Hell, I feel discouraged from discussing m/m here when that's what it's apparently associated with.

When I talk about Boulton being better than Wyatt I am certainly not half-joking. That's serious business.  In fact, I want Hawke back for DA3 principally because I'd rather be assured of more Boulton goodness than some new, potentially fail voice actor.

That said, I don't romance Anders anyway so my opinion on this particular discussion is relatively inconsequential.

That might be explored in DLC or an expansion. I imagine Anders will become the most infamous man in Starkhaven, to say the least.

heeeeeeeeyy! lee adama's back!  :wizard:

boulton voicing vaughan makes me enjoy the city elf origin more. but i keep hearing jowan in there too. literally 3 convos in a row he's a part - of which is a tad incongrouous

sassy gay boulton is good stuff. he is eclipsed only by mark meer as the incredible jethann! :P (anders too!)

Couldn't that happen with more of The Black Emporium's Xenon the Antiquarian and his trusty sidekick Thaddeus Gigantus Crumbum the Third?

When I say "overrated" it's speaking directly about fans who go out of their way to express the inherent superiority of M!Hawke in all things and/or to point out how icky or sad F!Hawke/Anders pairings are, or who leave comments on DA2 fan art that doesn't even involve Hawke that basically amounts to "well, as long as it's not a female protagonist." I'm not saying that everyone who prefers M!Hawke is like that, just like I know a lot of people who simply prefer Princess Cousland (I prefer Cousland, too, just not in a married/Happily Ever After scenario) and they never talk **** about about how not making Alistair king is wrong, or how the Best Ending is Their Ending. It's when personal preference becomes the baseline for how a person judges everything else that I get shirty.

Also, seeing how I'm a) one person and B) pretty positive I didn't even mention the Cousland thing on the BSN, I don't know why you'd personally feel weird talking about it.

And (because why the **** not?) I actually wish they'd gotten someone else besides Boulton because Vaughn is ALL I HEAR and rapists, even mustache-twirling, over-the-top evil rapists, are...not something I want to be thinking about every time my character opens his mouth.

The Great LIs are BI Debate is a large reason I don't like to venture outside of this one light in the BSN boards. I can understand personal preference for liking to play one gender over the other, certainly. But people insisting that one gender is inherently better to play than another in the terms of romancing makes me sigh and facepalm.

Besides, Anders loves Hawke. Warrior, Mage or Rogue. M!Hawke or F!Hawke. Doesn't matter. He always loves Hawke. He's such a beautiful, f*ed up man, and needs someone to love and care about him so badly. I suppose I'm slightly like Anders' mindset on love; the exterior of Hawke doesn't matter, just - the more love Anders gets, whatever the Hawke, the happier I'll be.

Oh yeah. I never really understand the need to argue that one type of pairing is better. It makes me wonder if people aren't secure enough with their "personal preference" and they need reassurance or justification why it's the better one?  As others have said though, simply stating personal preference isn't the problem. I'm always interested in other's perspectives. I suppose it can be a fine line sometimes between giving reasons why you like one pairing and putting down the other option. It can come across as you think one is inherently better when you only meant to say you like one better because of whatever reason. Obviously if the only reason is that the other option is worse... lol well..

As far as my own preference goes.. I don't find either M!Hawke/Anders or F!Hawke/Anders better. BUT I do prefer playing female Hawke so my playthroughs by default end up F!Hawke/Anders. Nothing wrong with a male protagonist - it's just that I'm so happy to (as a woman) be able to play a character that is also a woman. Not just a super sexed up, chain bikini wearing male fantasy idea of a woman.  Or on the other hand, they aren't just exactly like the male character with boobs. Even Aveline, who could have ended up extremely one dimensional, is an interesting and compelling strong woman. Isabella is overtly sexy but completely owns it on her own terms.

On the other side of things, I love how they're not afraid of putting a male character into the healing role (I know that's been discussed here before - as has pretty much everything else under the sun).

Now having been spoiled by being able to choose which gender it's really hard for me to consider games that don't give me that choice.

Agree with what Surely said. I still remember the time when a friend posted a screenshot of her female Hawke and Anders and someone on here said that she finds the FHawke/Anders - pairing "disgusting".

Considering there was pages of vitrol about "how dare the only male option be bi." from female gamers it certainly isn't restricted to one side.

Both sides do that stupidity.
What's important is thatwe don't let it enter the thread. This should be a safeplace from that stupidity.

Way back in the first few hundred pages.  I remember it, too.

Ryz is right. This is a haven from that crap.  It's a place of Sanctuary and Healing.

Oh... Surely.... I found a new title for us....

Yes, but this doesn't have the added benefit of trolling a troll.

I was going for a "Place of Sanctuary and Healing".  But that'll work.
