I have no issues blaming mages for resorting to blood magic. I'm totally with Fenris (and Anders, really) on that particular subject, a lot of mages will use basically any excuse to do it, and that's unacceptable, and only further proves Mages Can't Have Nice Things. I am one of those people who draws a line in the sand, that there are things you Don't Do, no matter how screwed up stuff gets, and blood magic is one of those things. S'why I always give Merril such a hard time, even though she is adorable.

I'm not perfect, of course, blowing up a Chantry is also one of those things you Don't Do, but I have yet to murderknife Anders for it (I probably will on my current playthrough and be traumatized). First time, I just couldn't bring myself to make my LadyHawke knife her boyfriend after all she had already lost. Second time, my DudeHawke was more like "You are going to help me save these mages from YOUR stupid-ass decision making. We'll see what happens AFTER." I wish I had a dialogue option to reflect that, though.

How does Anders/Justice act after he blows up the Chantry when Hawke has full friendship and supports him? I want to see happy Anders/Justice too...

He's at first quite happy that he's being allowed to live, but he has this eerie sort of calm afterwards.  He's still very strong in his conviction.  Of course, I got this one-liner from him in Lowtown as it was burning, and he said "This... isn't what I had expected," or something like that.

Well, at least he's happy. :) I would have liked crazy happy, but there's no way Kaya won't have a full friendship bar. It's almost full right now at the beginning of Act II.

Does he still say, "I just... THE WHOLE CHANTRY", or is that only crazy Anders?

Question? Does Fenris make a comment about Hawke/Anders romance like Andes does durning a hawke/fenris?

No. Only Varric and Isabella comments on it as far as I'm aware.

you don't think there's any situation that you would sacrifice your own soul to keep from happening? Granted, turning to blood magic is like one of those Genies that end up twisting all your wishes into your own personal hell, but i can't help but wonder how much it takes before you would find yourself there willing to risk/trade it.

EDIT: lol, though maybe i just like to brood over extreme situations and what i would do in their place

Sebastian will also comment on it. I haven't actually gotten that comment myself, as Seb did not like talking to me.

I'm gone for a couple of days to play through the game again and this thread gains 100 pages. Not as bad as the Fenris thread, but still.

I'm sure the regulars here have mentioned this already, but as I was walking around Kirkwall with my second Hawke who romanced Fenris, Merill mentioned that "Poor Anders broke the very thing he wanted to save" - which surprised me - I thought she was supposed to say this near the end, and that this was referring to Hawke and Anders' relationship? It wasn't even act III.

Another thing that I really enjoyed hearing was Anders wondering what Hawke sees in Fenris. It reminded me of him telling my 1st Hawke that he was aching for him for three years. It almost looks like he is still in love with you even if you don't romance or flirt with him at all. It's like... he's the canon romance.

He's certainly the only companion I've noticed seem like he has deep feelings for Hawke, even though I didn't get along with him at all this time. Am I just noticing the obvious? Or is it a coincidence?

You know, in my friendmance with Anders, I hardly saw any signs that he was losing control of Justice. It wasn't until I came here and read about other peoples experiences that I realized how far he could get from sanity.

I guess I just came to the conclusion that, with Hawke's love and support for his cause, Anders and Justice are a lot less conflicted, perhaps more merged together, and more content.

I also admit to not being too upset about the Chantry being blown up. It was war. But I cannot stand the abuses of the mages in game, and felt very strongly that it had to change. Plus it was only after trying to make the change peacefully by convincing Elthina, who refused to be convinced.

You only get the manic dialogue post-"Justice" if you're not yet eligible for the end-stage approval dialogue. So, you need to not be at 100% friend or rival and talk to him after "Justice," to get to see him go crazy-manic.

  Huh.  ::head scratch::  I swear he was already at 100% rivalry when I got that scene.  Mean old Charlotte Hawke had his rivalry maxed out by the middle of Act 2.  I'll have to load up the save and check again.

Ms. Hepler, you need to hang out on this thread more and tell us awesome things about Anders!  Like what his real name is!  In exchange we will provide delicious fangirl tears.

To me Anders is definitely the canon romance. Merrill and Fenris never even mention romance at all unless you start it, and Izzy's only in it for the sex.

I agree with you. With a friendromance they seem to merge and things seem to be much  "healthier". But it's hard to only look at one side of things on the forums, since some people did friendromance, some people did rivalromance and some people did both.

I like to think that friendromance has potential for a happy ending though ^_^

Nope.  It's a nickname for those who come from the Anderfels.  Gaider mentioned this on a thread a few days ago.

you know, i kept expecting there to be a quest where you either had to use blood magic, or lose one of your companions or something. The whole time i was trying to find Hawke's mother i was like "Crap, they are going to make me choose between blood magic and her death aren't they!" They didn't, but it would have been interesting to see just how far Hawke would have to be pushed to resort to blood magic herself, or if she would absolutly have nothing to do with it.

That would have required a mage Hawke, however, and I doubt they'll ever do a quest that class specific.

I could see one where you would have to encourage the use of blood magic to save someone, but even that's covered in the Best Served Cold quest when Alain whips out some blood magic to revive Carver/Bethany/LI.

ah, true. But you don't have the option of "letting" him revive your sibling/li or not. But you're right, i guess it really was a mage play through that the "to blood magic or not to blood magic" dilemma occurs.

Although it is not Hawke performing blood magic, rather than finding that Urchin that tells you to follow bloodtrails to find Hawke's mum, you can enlist Gascard DuPuis and have him perform a blood magic ritual. Possible to avoid the choice, yes, but interesting role-play potential. XD No comments from party members, though, that I remember. :<

That's the sense I get, too. He's jealous of Hawke/Merrill and Hawke/Fenris, and he abides Hawke/Isabela because it's pretty much a given that every one has slept with her. He definitely has strong, seemingly possessive feelings towards Hawke no matter what happens between them.

Oh, I see.  So if we are eligible for the end-stage approval dialogue, he never says anything like that.  Any reasoning why?

Well Hawke has to have SOME influence on Anders. If (s)he can't stop him to blow up the Chantry at least she helps him not become an absolute nutjob.

The more I play the more I realize how little influence Hawke has over Anders to be honest. And regardless of whether he lives or dies, he gives me a really eerie feeling like something is wrong within him. It has to affect him what he did whether he thought it was necessary or not.

It's the last one you can have with Seb, and I only got it when I maxed out his friendship. It starts out with him talking to Aveline about Hawke becoming Viscount, and he has...a few choice words about Anders. The first time I got it, it sent my poor Hawke into a bit of a flail because she was already freaking out about Anders.

I got a kick out of that as well. My most recent character was the first time I'd romanced Fenris (or...well...anyone but Anders, actually :?), so it was kind of neat to hear the resultant banter and remarks.

That being said, I don't think it need necessarily be construed as romantic rivalry or outright jealousy, although that is certainly the most obvious way to take it. Given how much Anders hates Fenris it's not unreasonable that he would make snyde comments and wonder that anyone might like him, much less love him, and have it not be about jealousy so much as genuine bewilderment and spite. The same can be said about the Hawke/Merrill relationship.

Really, after trying out Fenris' romance, it was very loving and passionate but I didn't experience any
of that side of him in my first playthrough when I didn't romance him,
whereas with Anders, it's like something is always there.
And seeing how canon Hawke is a male mage and Anders had a relationship with a man before...
