Seriously??? When are you supposed to get this convo then? Do you have to be maxed out on friendship?

www.youtube.com/watch

I don't know what the conditions are since I never got it myself. I would suspect a high friendship/rivalry.

Wow~ so Sebastian got it spot on huh? Freaky.

Ms. Hepler, you need to hang out on this thread more and tell us awesome things about Anders!  Like what his real name is!  In exchange we will provide delicious fangirl tears.

Anders isn't his real name?

Nope.  It's a nickname for those who come from the Anderfels.  Gaider mentioned this on a thread a few days ago.

Oh, that's cool. I was wondering why he didn't have a last name.

It seems to me that some mages that come out of the Circle have nicknames.  It's not as if real names are important to them, anyway.

Question? Does Fenris make a comment about Hawke/Anders romance like Andes does durning a hawke/fenris?

No. Only Varric and Isabella comments on it as far as I'm aware.

Sebastian will also comment on it. I haven't actually gotten that comment myself, as Seb did not like talking to me.

Yes, he says it's not is place to question but that you should be careful because Anders is selfish and will not hesitate to put his needs before our own.

Ok, Sebastian, you told me so.

I'm gone for a couple of days to play through the game again and this thread gains 100 pages. Not as bad as the Fenris thread, but still.

I'm sure the regulars here have mentioned this already, but as I was walking around Kirkwall with my second Hawke who romanced Fenris, Merill mentioned that "Poor Anders broke the very thing he wanted to save" - which surprised me - I thought she was supposed to say this near the end, and that this was referring to Hawke and Anders' relationship? It wasn't even act III.

Another thing that I really enjoyed hearing was Anders wondering what Hawke sees in Fenris. It reminded me of him telling my 1st Hawke that he was aching for him for three years. It almost looks like he is still in love with you even if you don't romance or flirt with him at all. It's like... he's the canon romance.

He's certainly the only companion I've noticed seem like he has deep feelings for Hawke, even though I didn't get along with him at all this time. Am I just noticing the obvious? Or is it a coincidence?

To me Anders is definitely the canon romance. Merrill and Fenris never even mention romance at all unless you start it, and Izzy's only in it for the sex.

Really, after trying out Fenris' romance, it was very loving and passionate but I didn't experience any
of that side of him in my first playthrough when I didn't romance him,
whereas with Anders, it's like something is always there.
And seeing how canon Hawke is a male mage and Anders had a relationship with a man before...

Exactly.

Please, don't. These sorts of comments, even made in jest, can open up all kinds of precarious arguments.

I got a kick out of that as well. My most recent character was the first time I'd romanced Fenris (or...well...anyone but Anders, actually :?), so it was kind of neat to hear the resultant banter and remarks.

That being said, I don't think it need necessarily be construed as romantic rivalry or outright jealousy, although that is certainly the most obvious way to take it. Given how much Anders hates Fenris it's not unreasonable that he would make snyde comments and wonder that anyone might like him, much less love him, and have it not be about jealousy so much as genuine bewilderment and spite. The same can be said about the Hawke/Merrill relationship.

I can see what you mean but I still think there's more to it. There are other minor things that suggest he might be in love with Hawke no matter what, but I guess I'll need to do one more playthrough to recall them. Can't hurt. ;)

@ post above: I don't see why I shouldn't. I was merely noticing what seems (to me) to be there.

Eh, I don't know if he got it spot on. I'd say Anders was pretty selfless as opposed to selfish. He'll give up his life, his love, anything for what he sees as the good of mages. However, his cause will always come first. Hawke will never be more important to him than that cause. That doesn't equate to his own needs being most important and selfishness to me. Maybe not a happy relationship and one that perhaps should be avoided, but not the way Seb says it.

"I thought the black outfit looked good, but it was way too ominous for me too like 100%. He would just stand there in Hawke's house, looking down on everything. Every time I saw him up there in that outfit, it depressed me. But then he gave the hilarious dog/bed speech while in that outfit and it lost some of its edge."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What? He gives a speech about the dog and the bed? Where and when and how? Is this some Dog interaction I missed?

GRR. ARGH. It's been too long and I've forgotten how to make it do the quote-y thing up above.

It's quite adorable really. I think it's just a random dog interraction after Anders moved in. I don't think it takes place at a specific time, although I got it in Act 3.

Yes.  Anders is putting the freedom of mages before Hawke.

So very selfish.

And also, how's that vengeance going for you, Sebastian? <_<

He is pretty selfish but hides under the umbrella of selflessness. He never asked any of the other mages what they thought he just blew up the chantry anyways and sealed their fate. He doesn't think about the consequences. He even uses Hawke to gather the materials and create the distraction. He says he cares but seems to do the opposite.

You know, maybe i missed out on some diologe or something, but i never got the whole "Anders is selfish" argument. Maybe because of his demeanor after the Chantry explosion. he looked like someone that just gave up everything he wanted in life, including forfeiting his own actual life to do something that he thought to be for the greater good. In Justices/Vengeance's eyes, selfish would have been Anders putting his own desires above the rest of the world and living a life of complacency with Hawke. I don't think Selfish is the right word to describes Anders' actions.

He does it in Act 3, right after Hawke gives him the key.  He tells Dog he needs to stop sleeping in Hawke's bed--it's hilarious.

This.  Anders isn't so much selfish as the opposite--selflessly devoted to a cause to the point of being scary.  Though Seb is partially right; Anders is dangerous, and he'll never put Hawke first.  I can see Seb misconstruing it, though, especially considering how poorly he and Anders get along.

Because I have a personal pet peeve about any sort of claims that X character is canon, and have seen arguments about it break out and turn ugly? I believe that BW has stated that there is no canon Hawke or Warden to them, so claiming that there is one is speculative at best.

The only reason I picked Anders over Sebastian is because his sausage was for sale.

...and I never claimed it *is*. I said that's what it seems to me. I was simply wondering who agreed with my view. Read my first post.

Exactly! And he's pretty upfront with the whole thing and gives you plenty of warning. My mage didn't see it as dealbreaker because the mage cause was important to her as well... well, that and those big brown eyes. they were a bit distracting too.

When Anders blew the chantry to kingdom come I was like: =O We are going to get into so much sh*t for that. It was foolish and has shown exactly what the Templars and the Chantry want to see in Mages. But I do understand the reasoning behind why he did it or why he didn't tell his best friend. I joined the Mages and their cause in the end as a Mage myself so that I could protect innocents from getting slaughtered, Anders slaughtered innocents for Mages and their cause. I still couldn't bring myself to kill him because he was my friend almost like a brother. I never cared for Sebastian that much especially after he started blaming mages at the end so I don't care that he left but he might cause trouble in future.

And it seems like Anders and Vengeance are almost a single entity now. Which could possibly make Anders immortal.

He said he was a party animal before, I see no reason why I couldn't bring it out of him now.

If he truely loves me he'd give up the goods.
