The only reason I picked Anders over Sebastian is because his sausage was for sale.

So clearly, everything would've worked out better for Seb if he'd just put out? :D

Poor Seb.  He gets so screwed over, and not in the good way.

How could anyone pick Mr. crappy version of Varric instead of the party's only healer anyway?

True.  Anders' mechanical AWESOME also earns him a lot of love. Though mage Hawke can be built as a spirit healer.

EDIT: Badass Anders being badass.

I agree with your assessment of Anders, I was taking issue with this:

Neither of those things have been confirmed as canon (the latter point is something I wish they would confirm, but I doubt they will) and implying such...see my original point.

He said he was a party animal before, I see no reason why I couldn't bring it out of him now.

If he truely loves me he'd give up the goods.

Wasn't he sent to the Chantry when he was 13?

Bleh, that's such a boring job.  I *HATE* having to be the party healer.  I love just letting Anders do his thing, while I just glance at everyone's health regularly to make sure he's doing his job.  Anders is definitely the MVP of my parties.  Healing and resurrecting everyone, Arcane Wall and Elemental Weapons for the party, and then sheer destruction with the rest of his mana.  XD

I think so, but he didn't start taking it seriously until recently.  If you go find that short story David Gaider wrote for him, he talks about partying and women a lot.  Made me sadface.

I don't think I'll ever get Seb's Anders warning talk.  He and Hawke are firmly "meh" about each other in my plays.  Regardless of how much you like or dislike Sebastian, he's simply not as cool as Varric.  That's a fact.  And one archer rogue in the party is plenty.

It always makes me giggle when he's trying to get Hawke to kill Anders and says "What if I'd been in there? Would you still be waffling then?"  I can imagine Hawke saying "Look dude, who are you again?"

He is pretty selfish but hides under the umbrella of selflessness. He never asked any of the other mages what they thought he just blew up the chantry anyways and sealed their fate. He doesn't think about the consequences. He even uses Hawke to gather the materials and create the distraction. He says he cares but seems to do the opposite.

Anders was a part of an apostate underground in the game.  Considering he was in Kirkwall for around 7-8 years (and frequently involved in smuggling circle mages out of the Gallows during that time) I imagine he spoke with the mages more often than you might think.

That being said, I actually do believe he thought long and hard about the consequences of his actions.  After all, he says as much to Hawke. "There's nothing you can say that I haven't already said to myself."

As for whether or not his actions were selfish or selfless, well, I think the writers intended for the players to draw their own conclusions on that one.

So do you feel guilty like I do when he's all gaspy and "I'm losing my focus!" this and "What do you want from me?" that? When I control him for the High Dragon fight I feel like a cruel taskmaster.

I like being the party healer in multiplayer, mostly because I enjoy crowd control and party support roles.  I play priests in WoW, bards and clerics in D&D, etc.  But in my single player games, I'm the star goddammit.  And I get to play the blood mage who nukes enemies' brains.

He says that but he also says this in banter with Isabella....

Sebastian: Before I came here, I was out all hours, drinking and whoring. I didn't believe in anything other than my own pleasure.

In that case, it is still a continuation of my original thoughts. I guess if what I said bothers you then feel free to skip over my posts. I, too, am free to imply whatever I want so long as it is not offensive (and I do not think it was).

I just thought of something. Does anyone find it odd that Anders never really mentions his Awakening adventures? I mean, so much stuff happened there and he just never mentions any of it. Not the warden commander, not the architect, not the mother, nothing.

I highly doubt he would have told anyone about the plan because he wouldn't want word to get out. The more people know about it all the more chance of it being discovered so I'm going to guess he didn't tell anyone. He couldn't even tell Hawke. So yes, he did do it on his own(with a little help from you).

I'm the same. I hate being the healer in single player games. Anders was my healer.....until he got kidnapped of course and I was stuck with Varric, Merril and Fenris. My Hawke hadn't specced anything in spirit healing.

*dies* Oh god

Also, I wouldn't worry about Hawke's manor being blown up, especially considering how Varric's interrogation was taking place there. Unless they rebuilt it, of course, and put the Amell crest back up even after you all left.

He talks to Varric about Blackmarsh, and Varric implies that he tells the stories to him, at least. And he also mentions that Hawke reminds him of the Warden-Commander (not specifically, but I doubt he's been in a whole lot of adventuring crews).

But it's not so strange. He'd probably like to forget all about his time in the Wardens, considering how bad it all turned out for him. Posted Image

It didn't really bother me. I don't need a rehash of old story and it's not relevant to what's happening in Kirkwall. There are enough references scattered throughout for my tastes.

So, at the risk of putting forth a ridiculously cheesy song--

Anne Murray - You Needed Me

I cried a tear: you wiped it dry.
I was confused: you cleared my mind.
I sold my soul: you bought it back for me.
And held me up and gave me dignity,
Somehow you needed me.

You gave me strength to stand alone again,
To face the world out on my own again.
You put me high upon a pedestal,
So high that I could almost see eternity,
You needed me.
You needed me.

And I can't believe it's you, I can't believe it's true:
I needed you and you were there.
And I'll never leave: Why should I leave? I'd be a fool.
'Cause I've finally found someone who really cares.

You held my hand when it was cold.
When I was lost, you took me home.
You gave me hope when I was at the end.
And turned my lies back into truth again:
You even called me friend.

Interspersed Hawke-to-Anders and Anders-to-Hawke lines. *ducks tomatoes* ;A;

Well maybe it turned out bad, but he definitely seemed like he was enjoying the journey. I didn't get the Blackmarsh convo though. But I did get the "I had a friend like you once..." one now that I think about it.

I do as well, but that's not what you said before.

"He never asked any of the other mages what they thought"

I'm sure he asked them several times what they thought, what they'd prefer, etc... I agree that he probably didn't come right out and say, "I'm planning on exploding the chantry.  Thoughts?" but you can still ask mages what they think on a matter without getting them involved in your schemes.

Even if he enjoyed it at the time, I think a lot of his memories have since been colored by his bad end with the Wardens. He rarely mentions the Wardens in a happy way. Usually just talks about how much he loathed the Deep Roads, how the Wardens took his cat, and so on. That's why I figure he doesn't talk too much about it. But yes, he does share tales with Varric at least and other mentions of the Warden.
