Once again, a bit late I know.  Anyways, Anders did not have to get the recipe from the Qunari to learn a bit about mundane explosions.  Remember - He was there in Awakenings at Vigil's Keep with the crazy dwarf that like to explode things.....

That's true. But I wouldn't necessarily consider those kinds of explosions to be "mundane"... They required lyrium, and they required the Good Stuff, so the raw lyrium crafting sources that Hawke finds around Kirkwall, Sundermount, etc would not be refined enough. At least I'd think not. And I don't know how that gets refined. Maybe he did just have to do that. But the red glowy makes me think of the red of raw lyrium... Awgh.

OH! QUESTION! Can you run away with him just as buddies? Because Aniselle is rivalmancing Fenris, but she'd totally take up Anders's cause and follow him...

I think the only person that stays with Hawke in the end is the love interest, at least according to Varric. Your headcanon can do whatever it likes ;)

Headcanon FTW! :wizard:

My headcanon on the only playthrough in which I romanced Fenris had us convincing Anders to travel with us to Tevinter, and try to go overthrow the Black Chantry over there in order to weaken the source of power of the Magisters, and give slaves all over the Imperium a shot at freedom!

Viva la revolution!  :D  Cue Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture...

Would be interesting to have Varric explain to Cassandra:
"This is a good news / bad news scenario.  The good news is, if Hawke has his way and Anders and his buddy Justice prove themselves to be just as efficient as they were here...  Well you just might be able to kiss goodbye to the Black Chantry's supremacy over the Imperium within the next decade or so...  The bad news is, he has no love for any form of opressing religious regime, including you guys.  If you're looking for his help in order to regain control over the mages and the Circles, you are wasting your time.  He'd rather die than try to convince anyone to submit to the Chantry."

stumbling in this thread like i've just been in a fistfight

hold me, sane people, hold me. there are such lovely kittens here.

and to be even more on topic, i think my favorite headcanon in line with how i interpret the characters is for hawke to realize that as much as he tried in da2 to rock the mages, it wasn't nearly hard enough, and he and anders spend the next three years working to tear the system apart from the inside out, sometimes politically, sometimes violently

i've even got a whole thing i'm writing about it now.

idk, i just think post-game stuff in which anders sits around useless, his purpose fulfilled, ignore the fact that the chantry jenga wasn't an endgoal, it was a catalyst.

The bisexuality thread? You have just been in a fistfight. Sort of.

Arguing with some people is like trying to tear down a wall by banging your head against it repeatedly  - the wall's not coming down and you just end up with a serious headache.

In my headcanon, Hawke is too afraid for reprecussions made against her sister to really make a move against Meredith. At the end of the game, she glues Bethany on one side of the hip, Anders on the other and swears to never, ever let either out of her sight again.

Ever.

Half the threads outside of this one is not just a fight but a bloody warzone, with poor arguments.  Atleast here people give reasonable reasoning for their opinions.

This is also why I love this thread, outside the fact that I love Anders.  The people in this thread are great.

you know, it wasn't even about changing that little turd's mind, it was about showing him that for once his whiny heterocentric-ness wasn't going to get pandered to, at least by me through silence. grrrrrrr

oh, oh wow, i actually REALLY love that interpretation of hawke's, ah, inactivity. i might have to incorporate it for myself, if you don't mind :D

yeah, i certainly can't see hawke separating from friendmanced anders under any circumstance (which is a big reason post-game canon revelations worry me), and now oh my gosh i am loving the idea of dragging bethany around too.

It never ceases to amuse me how the privileged cries "political correctness" and "pandering" whenever
others have the audacity for wanting to be treated as equals to them. I mean, seriously.

This is some rather brilliant head!Canon. I wished it worked for my!Hawke. I'm still stumped as to the choice I have to make: my!Bethany died in the Deep Roads, and my!Hawke is a rather outspoken critic of Meredith's.

Cathrine Hawke: "Meredith Crazy? Maybe. Meredith stupid? Very much yes. The woman lacks even the most basic understanding of cause and effect. Maybe she means well but she just doesn't get people. It'd be funny if she wasn't so dangerous."

And she'd agree with Elethina that the only sensible course of action would be to stall, even if she senses it's futile. Everyone smells the blood in the water. But she may actually believe that she can stay out of it. If Orsino and Meredith decide to kill each-other, then fine. Neither of them are a great loss to the world. I'll be around later to minimize the damage done to the innocent parties. Wait, what?? Why do I have to "support" anyone?? I'd shiv both of you and just go home.

This is very beautifully put and I totally agree.

But just gotta say, that's gonna make for some awkward sexytimes with Anders, what with your sister glued to your hip and all...

I think there's some kind of sub-clause about this situation, though.  "Hot twin sisters in a three-way" is the most easily excusable kind, but I think we could submit a motion to broaden this to "hot siblings in general".

Oh Anders thread... kittens to incest. You have it all >.<. Oh and the poll.. go Fenris go. I mean..um, nope thaw what I mean, muahaha.

Say, about Anders here is a question that im sure comes up a lot but does anyone prefer to change anders' model? Or is it mostly loyalists who would burn someone in oil for changing his appearance? Just curious.

Count me a loyalist, at least. The companions were crafted in a certain way for a reason. And I love that Anders isn't classically handsome or such, but looks every inch of the haggard refugee. It's more realistic.

Mostly.

At least half the thread is dedicated to complaining about bad companion mods, I think.

To my personal taste Anders is pretty much the most handsome human male character I've seen in a western RPG. I am in no way exaggerating here. He tops Alistair, Kaidan, even Joker. I like the slenderness, the pointed chin, the nose, the expressive eyes. Positively perfect.

Now, notice I said human. Zev and Fenris are in a different category. I have a special liking for elves because I am very into androgyny, and Fenris was obviously crafted to be a thing of the most essential beauty.

Still, give me a choice between Anders' little downcast, sidelong glance and Fenris staring up at me slyly, and I'll melt for Anders just a bit more. Then again, I also melt for Dat Carapace, so I don't exactly have conventional standards of beauty.

At the same time, as much as I like Anders's looks, it is kind of a shame we only really get to see him (and the other companions for that matter) wear one outfit. I had fun putting Alistair in the King's Armor, breathed a sigh of relief when I got Morrigan into something a bit less revealing.... it was a weirdly memorable moment when I first exchanged Leiliana's chantry robes for some genuine rogue's armor. Suddenly she looked a bit less like a loopy religious nut and more like a girl who was much more then she first seemed.

Unique outfits means unique body types, which I will gladly take over swappable outfits that make every man a beefcake and every woman a proud owner of double Ds.

I was one of those who complained ceaselessly about the lack of customizable armor before launch. But then I played the game and found that while I missed it at first, I saw the purpose behind it. It allowed for unique body models, for one. Anders, if you notice, is far slimmer than other humans (look at his arms particularly). He looks like a refugee who's not been eating enough. While perhaps the ideal solution would be to make a bunch of robes/armor for his unique model, I think we both know BioWare doesn't have the resources for it.

So instead the alternative would have been to give him the same model as everyone else, and you lose something then. I've seen some mods which give him other outfits, and I'm always struck by how much healthier--and thus wrong--he looks.

I think a compromise would have been to make a few more palette swaps of the companions' outfits, so at least the customization aspect was there. I like a little variance, but I've also grown to appreciate the benefits of the unique models

Edit: Everyone be very quiet. We have a ninja in our midst...

Not to mention the World's Ugliest Underwear.

Really, underpants cut that high don't flatter anybody.

Seriously, the underware was the scariest thing in Origins.  It toped the Archdemon.
