Which doesn't actually make any sense. Unless it's to stroke the player's ego.
Oh, and hi, I'm BACK!
Makes sense to me. If a defender of the mages Hawke is better PR than the dude who blew up the Chantry. If slayer of the mages Hawke is better PR (slew hundreds of defenseless mages for an apostate's who blew up the chantry crimes) and gives them an icon of injustice to fight against. Something more concerte than just the Chantry as a whole. It makes it more personal I suppose. Can't really blame the divine for what happened since she didn't order the RoA. Meredith was dead so it fell to Hawke. ...Great now I'm thinking about Lelouch and how he tried to get all the hatred of the world aimed at him. Goddamnit it. *rewatches Code Geass*
They could use both but using Anders might end up with Hawke's actions being looked on a gentler light by some people.(Rallying under the guy who blew up the Chantry isn't gonna win many brownie points with the commoners).
Also. WB.
THIS! Code Geass being one of my absolute favorite anime. I also thought of this connection somewhat both for Hawke siding with the Templars and Anders trying to martyr himself. The whole "the war doesn't end until someone wins" theory. Lelouch is my hero, maker help me.

Still, I also think Anders' martyr comment was more a defiance statment as well. It definitely wasn't for that reason that he did it in the first place. In fact, my Hawke tends to go "dammit, I don't want to make you a martyr!" after that and opt not to kill him. Then he ends up coming back and you have to kill him anyways,

but at least you didn't execute him.
Hawke usurping the battle cry doesn't help much either, but then in my head I always imagine the mages keeping Anders on their mind as the one who started the revolution. The mage who finally stood up and brought real change. Whisper his name, worship or hate him, but keep him in mind none the less. The truth is known to them, but only in whispers and rumors. I doubt Anders' involvement is really made public, and most people get the story "all wrong" as Varric says. Still, I'm sure Anders' memory is out there, and I'm sure there are mages who view his actions and him as something to rally behind.
Oh and because I am like 2 pages behind now..
Sebastian. I haven't quite decided about him. I love to rival him. I don't dislike him. In fact I waiver between *facepalm* and genuine like of the guy. To me he isn't a religious in your face with his beliefs kind of guy. He does his thing and I respect him for that, but he also could be doing so much more. I want him to be the Prince of Starkhaven and he is so resistant to that because of the Chantry. Screw the Chantry man! You have a kingdom and people who need you, wtf about them?! Ohhh it's to hard.. ohh you made vows... excuses excuses! I want to push him to be more than what he is, and in the end when he leaves in a huff I'm all "good for you! Finally some backbone! Go, be a prince!" -- "In fact if you can bring an army and advance on 'my precious apostate' (or whatever he calls Anders) I will do a happy dance before I decide to try to talk you down or kill you for being utterly RIDICULOUS!"
