You know I really miss his clean shaven look. In DA2 he looks so scruffy with that 5 o'clock shadow. I mean it adds character, but I do miss washed and shaved Anders, LOL. Plus his jewelry.. I do miss his gold armbands and earring for some reason. It was so "him" back then. *sigh*

He doesn't remember to eat and you want him to shave?Posted Image

I totally understand why he got rid of the bling, though. He probably sold it to get to Kirkwall/pay bribes/treat refugees. It would have been cool if he was still wearing the exact same robe that he wore in Awakenings, but aged and in tatters, but I won't complain about his new boots.

Sorry for the usual necroposting. I'm still catching up on the thread.

Edit: Sorry, guys, I know I've got ToP, but I'm at work and can't do much about it now.

*sigh* Modders need to stop messing with Anders' already glorious face and get to work on something of actual importance: removing the Trogdor arm from the male Mage champion armor. Still waiting guys!

Can I second this?

I actually love that the top of his jacket is the top of his robe from Awakenings (or very, very close) just without the stylish cravat and all the jewelry.  I also assume that he sold it all while he was on the run, or to pay bribes, or help people. It also seems possible that his sleeves are actually made from the torn lower parts of his original robe, seeing as they match the shoulder part.

My perfect Anders is midway between both versions. But the boots... the boots stay on.

I know that it's considered fan-head!canon that, obviously, Justice is responsible for Anders being so absent-minded about eating, sleeping, etc -  but I find it hard to believe (certainly on friended playthroughs) that Justice is as malicious about this, as some writers make him.

I really think the spirit is subjected to the same thing sort of forgetfulness, an 'Oh. Right. Actually have a living body now, and that requires upkeep. Kristoff wasn't nearly so... messy.'

But that's my Pratchett's Thief of Time influence showing again. :)

I used to think that the souls of the tranquil were living in the fade, like the mage you meet there in DA:O. Now I realize it's probably much worse... the soul is trapped inside the body, but it doesn't have the 'fuel' of dreaming to give it free will or creativity or emotion.

So, you mean it's worse because, if the soul were in the Fade it would still sort of be free by itself, but because it's in the body it is a starving prisoner of sorts?

That also introduces a scary thought. If the soul is trapped in the body, with absolutely no connection to the Fade, what happens when they die....? That could certainly be one reason that the vast majority of mages are terrified of Tranquility, aside from the loss of self. The soul would have nowhere to go. Or, at least, no way to get there, if they are permanently cut off. They die and just cease to exist.

I'm also curious if a non-mage could be made tranquil. Nobody's ever tried, but could you create a slave just as will-less by tranquiling someone ordinary?

That makes me wonder whether they have tried this in Tevinter and it has just failed. They have their own Chantry and Templars and it also stands to reason that they can also perform the Rite. It is one of those things that you don't know if it's been tried and can't be done or if it's just oversight. I am inclined to think that it's too much of a trivial thing for writers to have put a lot of thought into. On the other hand, since it does bring up lots of questions regarding the connection people have to the Fade in general, it might not be so trivial.

I really, really hope this isn't true. If it is, we need to get Falon'Din back here as fast as possible. (Also, if you haven't read this codex entry... it makes me cry.)  I'd like to think that life is what binds the body to the spirit, and keeps the spirit from traveling freely. If you spend too long in the fade, the binding of life will eventually unravel, and you will die in truth. That's what I gather based on the teachings of the elves, that is.

I've talked before about Magical Theory in Thedas... there's a lot that we would have to do some dark science indeed to figure out. If I had to bet, I'd bet that it is possible to do something akin to tranquiling normal people. There's a chance that it's simply more difficult... non-mages have a weaker connection to the fade, so it's harder to see. There's also the fact that if tranquility was something that could happen to anybody, there would be more cause for the common people to think about it. If it's something that only ever happens to other people, it's easier to ignore... making the practice widespread for the nonmagical would call up some questions better not brought to mind.

I don't know what this is about, but since coming to snap-judgements is encouraged in this game, I'm going to say when in doubt, run away and let CGG handle it.

Whatever it was.

Being nosy, I had to skip over to the Fenris thread and see what was going on.
I didn't know that the writers had officially come out and said that Anders is, in fact, bipolar. <_< No wonder I like him. I really understand his spectrum of feelings. Ehehe... And no wonder he obsesses every night for three years. @_@ Ararar.
A lot of people just don't understand him and the way he comes off sometimes as being creepy and overly obsessive. The secret is, you usually just... don't say those things out loud. Anders has no filter. I, however, have tried to keep my filter strong. (Of course, the Lamictal helps. ) It's harder sometimes with the anonymity of the internets (yes occasionally I say odd things that, later, I'm like WTF), but if I had a spirit in my head making me all confused I'd be more likely to blurt things out.
Without going into personal details maybe nobody wants, I know exactly what Anders felt when he said how good it felt to let a spirit fulfill its purpose. Like, aaahhh... I don't have to fight it anymore. Let's let the chips fall where they may.

Anyone else chuggin' along the bipolar express? :D OMG now I've got images of Anders in talk-therapy. Ha ha ha!

I'm so glad they changed the body model though - I really dislike that huge beefcake model for him. Well, for any mage really. I do imagine they have good upper body strength, but mostly I picture them lithe. Although I would also approve of tubby mages. Posted Image

I get a giant kick of huge-mega-bulky mage hawke. Its all "ME MAGE! ME HIT U W/ POINTY STICK!" because he's as large as a freeking quinari ;p

It makes me giddy when I pair male mage hawke and Anders, because he could LITTERALLY club anders and drag him back to the home-cave ;x
<snip>

Hawke I could kind of see as turning out quite beefy what with all the awesomeness and hero aura - but yeah... trogdor arm is problematic. At least beef up the other one to match!

I totally fanon this, but I don't think it's malicious. Just... Janders has got more important things to think about and the boy is stressed. You just forget to do stuff until you really have to, or until someone points it out. I can imagine Varric having a quiet word and telling Anders he needs to have a shave or they're going to be mistaken for brothers.

I've got really severe ADD, which can manifest as mild bipolar when I'm not on ADD medication. You can tell when that happens on this thread sometimes... it also causes insomnia, which is great.

I want Anders in talk therapy so badly. The fact that you can't get him some sodding HELP is what frustrates me more than anything else in the game. I have a degree in psychology, but the reason I got out of that business was that I find troubled men too attractive. Ok, that wasn't the only reason, but it was a significant factor in my decision-making process. I should have gone with the English degree instead. Ah well, curse me for trying to be practical.

/cough

I want to see a good post-game fic with the Warden as Pscyotherapist.

I would attempt this, but my wardens tend to border on the in****ingsane ;p I think my Cousland might be the most sane, so I could attempt it.. as for my Mahariel, she'd just beat him over the head with the hilt of her daggers.. and my Tabris would probably clap him on the back and be all "Congratulations! Welcome to Crazy town!"

Alas, I'll be back later. The hubby doth want me to heal intances in Wow for a while. :crying:
