Anyone else chuggin' along the bipolar express? OMG now I've got images of Anders in talk-therapy. Ha ha ha!

I've got really severe ADD, which can manifest as mild bipolar when I'm not on ADD medication. You can tell when that happens on this thread sometimes... it also causes insomnia, which is great.

I want Anders in talk therapy so badly. The fact that you can't get him some sodding HELP is what frustrates me more than anything else in the game. I have a degree in psychology, but the reason I got out of that business was that I find troubled men too attractive. Ok, that wasn't the only reason, but it was a significant factor in my decision-making process. I should have gone with the English degree instead. Ah well, curse me for trying to be practical.

/cough

I want to see a good post-game fic with the Warden as Pscyotherapist.

Ohhhhh I used to have really bad insomnia. I fortunately haven't had to take anything to help me sleep in the last few months, to my grateful surprise. Sometimes it takes a while to fall asleep though. I can imagine Anders lying awake trying to sleep, his mind running in dizzy circles that are like that pic posted here in the last couple days... Thinking, "Hawke Hawke Hawke Hawke @_@". Unable to get her/im out of his mind. Thought static. Lying awake dizzy no matter how tired you are and just wanting to cry or yell at things.

Yeah, I like Hawke, but if you take the story at face-value, it seems like ANY Hawke is rather completely incapable of handling anything like getting Anders any real "help". But, being able to put myself in Anders's position, a lot of people simply do not know how to react. He doesn't want sympathy, but he wants understanding. He also makes it clear that things with him aren't going to be easy, and I think that he knows it's not just because of the possession thing or the cause for mages. He doesn't make excuses for what he does, but he lets Hawke know how helpless he feels sometimes.

And at the end, he tells Hawke that anything Hawke would have to say to him to condemn him, he's already said to himself. He did it anyway. He'll take responsibility for it, and he knows it was a horrible thing to do, but he doesn't regret it. He has his reasons for why he did it. Maybe that's why I ran crying for Fenris on my second PT... That particular bit hit really close to home subconsciously.

What kind of Warden would BE a psychotherapist? XD I know mine wouldn't! She's like, "Dude. Not very subtle, but I'm not exactly subtle either. It worked though! Now, ok, can you help me find MY phylactery?" (Or does the Warden Taint thing negate a phylactery's usefulness?)

Oh Anders thread, I <3 you so much.

Edit: Man beck, I was totally going to requote the kittens and pie if you didn't.

Black and white don't exist here, for which I am truly grateful.

Also, this isn't an Anders song, but this is the song for all my Hawkes at the end of the game, thanks to Anders:

Shades of Grey

Now with the wisdom of years I try to reason things out
And the only people I fear are those who never have doubts
Save us all from arrogant men, and all the causes they're for
I won't be righteous again
I'm not that sure anymore

i walked in the fenris thread, took a good look around, walked right back out.

the people who are continuously butthurt because anders USSSSEDDD hawke and who refuse to put any critical thought to the cascade of gray surrounding anders, blanketly labeling him as an "evil, broken terrorist", are just not worth my argumentative energy.  every time i've tried to politely engage someone of that opinion set with more academic discussion, they're so embroiled in bitter betrayal that it doesn't get anywhere.

anders thead, i have something for you...

Things are getting a little heated there over in the Fenris thread.

And it's eating her pie. Bad kitty

All the Warden needs to be a psychotherapist is a license, really. There is not one companion whose personal problems you don't have to try and deal with somehow. Maybe the dog. Though my Warden is such a case by the end of Origins that she makes for an abolutely ****ty one.

D'awww, yay!

You know, that really bugs me too, and makes me so sad that people would come to that conclusion. Have those people honestly never lied to, or kept something from, someone they loved in the name of trying to protect them? :?

One of the other symptoms of my ADD are that I never learn, and I have a great deal of difficulty being productive when someone is WRONG on the INTERNET.

Also right now my shoulder is really really messed up so I can't really do anything productive instead. Luckily I have a doctor's appointment in an hour or so.

To be thread relevant: What I am doing right now on the Fenris thread is pretty much the psychological equivalent of Anders writing his manifesto. I really need a kind-hearted Hawke to come up to me with a blanket and say "come to bed dear."

Can't you see Anders staying up all night having arguments about mages and templars on the Bioware boards. I KNOW I CAN.

yeah, there was some poster in there who said something along the lines of, "anders lied to hawke and that is completely unacceptable!" i'm... sleepy, which i think explains my nice gloves this morning, but if i wasn't sleepy i have the sneaking suspicion i would have been inappropriately rude to her, because, really, have you never been in a relationship before?

love him or hate him personally, anders is such an incredibly compelling character, like, academically, i don't see how you can just dismiss him that easily grrrrr

Hahaha. I can definitely see that. Poor Anders would never get any sleep.

As for you, I would say keep fighting the good fight, but I read just a few posts on the Fenris thread responding to your argument and it made my head spin. So I don't know if I can tell you to subject yourself to that in good conscience.

amazing mental image and so true

i admire your patience, sincerely. normally i'd totally be in there duking it out because oh my god arguing on the internet my one true love but jesus christ at least in those terrible bisexuality threads, people, y'know, acknowledged that i had typed words.

the fenris thread is just you making incredibly salient points and most people going "well that's cool but this is my opinion and it's the exact same thing i just typed out half a page ago". there are a few people interested in discussion, but it seems like most of it is just ear-plugging.

I find it very difficult to argue about Ander's actions without bring in RL examples , which I know is inappropriate for this forum, so I have to keep out of it ;) Hard though, I have typed this post about 5-10 times now adding more to the above, but I think I should leave it at that!

I'm with Yami on this one. Go to bed, dear. Personally, I can get so involved with internet arguments that I lose my night's sleep over it, and I'm very close to scratching the mage/templar/Anders debate off the list of things I'm willing to get involved with because the debates get so vicious it's like standing in opposite trenches and flinging poo. Most of the time it's really not worth the effort. But I suppose it is a good thing that this game has managed to arouse such heated discussions.

Edited because I used the word 'debate' too much, gah.

Well, it'd make beheading him - you know, the crazy abomination - for his crimes a lot easier.

Oh, you mean to propose?  That would be almost as crazy and damn-the-torpedoes shortsighted as the rest of his actions.  But while it may be dumb, at least it might be in character.  Sort of.

I do worry though about anyone who experiences either romance path for Anders and thinks "marriage!" though.

Pft, I've cited Timothy McVeigh and the Oklahoma City Bombing.  Not a word from the mods, probably because of the context of the post and discussion.

Just don't photoshop Anders' face onto Osama bin Laden and you'll probably be fine.

Which is why I would argue the ending of DA2 is much better than DAO even though they do recycle the same content regardless of which side you choose.

Seconding this. The appeal in the Anders romance is that it isn't all sunshine and flowers and marriage and babies in the end, and I really gotta wonder about the people who want that without making it into some AU.

Introducing him to my mother would be all kinds of awkward.

And I can't stand it anymore, who the fork is Dancing Dude in your avatar? Sometimes it's incredibly difficult to read what you post because he keeps distracting me.

I'm under the impression that most people here thinks that Anders with babies is a Very Bad Idea, unless as a part of a Thedasian sitcom. Which I would not mind at all, because a Thedasian sitcom would be awesome.

Especially if you have music in the bg.

I personally don't really see the appeal of the Anders romance in general outside metagaming and for the RPing experience. But that's something we already covered.

It's Ron ****ing Swanson from NBC's Parks & Recreation.

So you don't see the appeal of the Anders romance aside from... playing the game?   Unless there's a way to experience a cRPG that isn't either in-character roleplaying or metagaming that I haven't been introduced to.  Self-insert?

I gather that too, but there's always someone.... lots of someones. I will take every chance I get to say that it's a horrible idea and that the marriage/pregnancy/baby/domestic life fantasies for either male LI makes me laugh my ass off.

He's probably the single least appealing real life romance candidate for anyone who is sane, but he offers the most interesting narrative.

Well, I'd do him before Fenris or Merrill, but that's not saying much. If only I could have a semi-gay threeway marriage with Isabela and Varric :crying:
