You know damn well which one of your assistants I'd prefer. Though really, I honestly don't care what kind of powers he has.

He's too busy babysitting my kid.

BTW, don't you find it fascinating that David, when given the chance to wish for anything he wants, chose Owen instead of anything else?
I personally don't interpret it as Xanatos loving Owen or necessarily caring about him that much instrinsically (though I do think he does care deeply). I think that Xanatos as a person sees the value in someone being useful / reliable / dependable and hates waste (he says that many times). That's why I think he valued Owen and not anything else.

Aaaand I can swing this back around to Anders! Because that's how I work! (also kind of the rules for this thread).

This is, in a lot of ways, related to one of our fundamental differences: the value of order over chaos. Owen is order - reliable, efficient, depednable, all that stuff, but completely unmagical. The Puck is chaos incarnate, practically. No matter how precisely you word your wish to the Puck, he's going to find out a way for it to go unexpectedly for you. Even if it doesn't actively harm you, it will go counter to your expectations in some huge way. For Xanatos, chaos that he can't forsee is something he'd far prefer to avoid, so he picks order over the temptation of chaos, despite the fact that the richness of possibility offered by chaos seems so much greater. (I agree that Xanatos cares about Owen as well, but that's another topic.)

I like that feeling of the unknown and the unknowable, and to some extent, that's why I respect both what Anders did by combining with Justice and even some of their subsequent actions. Anders basically made a fey wish, and got what he asked for... in a crazy, unpredictable, uncontrollable way.

I see you have now fully migrated your antagonist self to a new thread... [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

Though watching you endorse silliness is almost surreal.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I like Varric and Aveline more, but Anders ranks third and it's the most active (and has people I already like).

I'm not even sure if KoP counts as an antagonist in this thread at this point! Rival, maybe. Maybe.

Varric is everyone's favorite. I consider him my personal viewpoint character in the story, more than Hawke. He's the one whose mannerisms and decisions I most identify with, anyway. I actually once spent a year explaining how life in our college dorm was a sit-com, and I was the main character... but me being the main character meant I couldn't make any actual progress in my life, because the main character always has to stay static for the weekly plot reset, in order to give viewers a consistent perspective on new events.

Nonono, wrong kind of goblin king. We're talking Labyrinth now. "Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave." I always say I woulda picked the goblin king! Who cares about some silly baby brother. I mean, if you pick the goblin king, the baby's still there too, he's not dead or anything! Pish. But I'd kinda equate Xanatos to the goblin king, hehehe.

Let's see. I'm going to put a movie in, stay up late, and draw Anders as a gargoyle. STARTING THIS MINUTE andihopeitdoesn'tturnoutlookinglikecrap

Exactly!

And I don't know what else to say other than

I 100% identify with Xanatos in this. Magic offers a lot of possibilities yes (and great potential risk), but if it's something I can't control, I would not risk being dependent on it unless absolutely necessary.

We'll say rival because rivalmances are better.

And yea, VArric is one of the few people in DA2 I'd consider reasonable.

lol You'll have fun either way here. Hopefully.

So you liked Andersa lot from Awakening I take it?

Sorry for being slow, but yeah, I did.  He was pretty dorky and and I always have a thing for snarky/sarcastic characters.  DA2 Anders was almost like a punch to the gut, but I love him either way.  In fact, it's really hard for me to not like a character.  I can almost always find something about a character to like.  And I'm just easily pleased.

Oh, and I meant my Marcelyn Hawke danced around Anders for three years.  Well, they danced around each other until they couldn't take it anymore and had to be crazy togther.

I'd call that BLASPHEMY. I don't even know if you deserve a pass to get out of that one! Jareth is epic in his machinations and his word trickery. At least I think so. <3

JAnders looks good as an angry glowy-eyed gargoyle.

Ahh, gotcha. I agree, though I find the "background" interspecies relationship dynamic in ME to be one of the more interesting and better-written ones I've ever encountered in a Sci-fi game, now is not the time 'nor the place for that argument, and the ability the player has to actually interact with it beyond just reading about it is either maddeningly slight or unrealistically impactful.

(Recommendations for games with good politics? Feel free to PM if it's too OT)

ME3 relations with the geth? *sigh.* i really wish legion had been available earlier. he was just awesome

Adoooooorable.... Party banter between Anders and other companions in DAA.

Nate: "You don't always wear robes, do you?"
Anders: "Not when I'm naked, I don't."

Oghren: "So. Mage, huh? What's it like?"
Anders: "To have all this power at my fingertips?"
Oghren: "No, to always have to wear a skirt! Hehehehehe."
Anders: "Ohh, you don't know the story behind the robes. You know how strict things are in the Circle, right? Well, of course you do. Well, the robes make quick trysts in the corner easy. No laces, or buttons, you just--well, you're done before the Templars catch on."
Oghren: "Really?"
Anders: "Just ask anyone!"

Boo. The night I decide to have Movie Night with the family is the night you all decide to talk about Justice. I hate when I miss the fun! :(

@CGG: Since I know you're also a big proponent of Anders/Justice merger being something fascinating and new, what if it's not new per say, just the first that's it has happened in a very long time. Case in point: Flemeth.

I've been doing some heavy replay of DA:O, and it makes me wonder with all the stories about Flemeth, and how she summoned a demon to get revenge, etc. I know there's so many theories about Flemeth, but the idea of that she and whatever spirit she summoned merged into something so different, and powerful, and new that even Morrigan doesn't know wtf she is... well, I just wonder, and was curious as to your thoughts on it.

It's frustrating. That kiss was actual animation, I think: as in pose-to-pose animation, just because it doesn't seem heavy enough to be motion-capture. And that kiss was actually some pretty impressive stuff. Very desperate and breathless. Lust is definitely in the air.

But I've noticed that except for walk/run/stand animations, Fem!Hawke moves like a man. In the cutscenes, she sits like a man would sit, moves like a man would move. It was most noticable in the love scenes.

Ideally, there could be different animation sets for the different genders. Heck, the nut in me would say, lets have different animation sets for the different genders AND the different classes. No way should a burly Male Warrior move like a nimble Female Rogue does (especially in bed.)

Now, the animation and the overall expressiveness of the characters is much, MUCH better then DA:O, where i got so sick of 2/3 shots of people flapping their arms that I would only look at the screen to choose my responses. DA:O's writing and voice-acting was so goddamned flawless that I couldn't get that worked up about it. Still. Missed opportunity.

In considering this, I would move that Flemeth must have been an incredibly strong person when she summoned the spirit she did, because she still retains her sense of self to an incredible degree and doesn't seem to ever lose control the way Anders does.  Maybe it's a side-effect of how long she's been what she is, but I'd be more inclined to say that if the merger was the same type that Flemeth undertook, Anders is failing at it.

I don't think Flemmeth merged with a demon at all, despite what the stories say.

I think Flemeth merged with the essence of an Old God. In a different manner then Morrigan's baby was created, but still, she is just about everything I'd expect a fusion of mage and Dragon God to be: powerful, immortal, and full of old magics that the rest of the world forgot long ago.

And a dragon. Can't be a dragon god if you're not a dragon.

There's tomboyishness and then there's "I am a 200+lb man inside these bones, really." Really, even the butch-est female still won't move like a male does.

Plus, I complained about the F!Warden's super-manly wide-legged run, but F!Hawke's swishy-armed, elbows-tight prancy girly run isn't much of an improvement. And every time she insists on cocking her hip while she's just standing, I wonder if it's an old injury that makes her favor one leg like that. Or if someone actually thinks that's how women stand.

"Do you, Anderstians, take each other, and the thread, and most importantly Anders, to be the one you make fun of, but still love, in crazyness and in seriousness, for better or worse.
Will you scream collectively at the dreadful modding, repel all attempts to troll, and be patient in explaining to all comers the wonderousness that is Anders.
Will you post mildly nsfw pics and cute gifs, will you all go 'awww' at the kitten pics, and defend Anders right to love who the hell he pleases without prejudice.

I now pronounce you thread and spouse.  Let none make asunder what Bioware has put together."
