Don't tell me Stolen Throne is bad. D: I'm halfway through it already. T_T

It's not bad, it just... doesn't really go anywhere spectacular. It just kinda is.

The Calling is somewhat better, in that it actually has some bearing on the games, Awakening in particular.

That said, Dragon Age is my Angst Sandwich and Mass Effect is my Heroism S'more. I think having the two different universes reflect massively different feelings, goals, and moods is effing awesome and not something most studios could pull off. When I play DA I'm all ready for tough choices and angst and darkness and a little cheese with my whine. When I play Mass Effect I'm all ready to kick *** and chew gum.

This, so much.  I hate shooters and resisted ME for ages.  But once I gave in and discovered that I could actually NOT die every five minutes I delighted in Shepard's BAMF life (and death, and resurrection).  The galaxy revolves around her as she kicks ass and takes names.

My Wardens and Hawke all have horrible lives filled with trauma, angst, and death.  They affect a little piece of a continent each and get beaten down over and over again.  I love to wallow with them, naturally.  But it's definitely not the same kind of fun that Shepard is.

@KoP Airplane lady made me turn off my Kindle right at the point where the ****ty elf first makes her move, leaving tree-girl going GRRRR. So I started working on my own story instead.

Which, like this thread, is about Anders! *giggle*

You left him there, huh? I actually haven't played Overlord in.... Hmm. Too long to remember very well.

My little brother's name is David. And he's [spoiler] too.

Overlord REALLY made me cry.

Well...Stolen Throne did give us the epic Maric/Loghain romance. Or was I the only one who saw that?

Not even bromances can move me when they're on the backdrop of a love triangle.

God, I hate love triangles.

What's funny is, at first I was only going to write about Correm's reactions post-game. Then I was like, well I should include moments he has with Anders throughout the game. Now I worry that I've set myself up for too much and won't get around to finishing anything significant.

What if they're staged in say, a camping tent?

I can see this love triangle becoming annoying, yes.

HE'S BOFFING SOME TRAMP. I must do the same somehow.* (postulating—haven't gotten that far yet)

That's not a love triangle, that's a threeway.

I will say that love triangles retroactively redeem themselves when they resolve into a threeway. Unfortunately, The Stolen Throne does not resolve into a threeway (or a fourway, I guess it would be).

Katriel being an elf isn't the problem, it's the fact she exists solely to inject even more drama into the already painful Maric/Rowan/Loghain cluster**** (edit: correction, disappointing lack of cluster ****ing). But elves are lame too.

I have a Tardis.

Seriously...I have no idea. I did A Distant Ray of Light in less than a month. During finals. Even I don't know how I managed that one. Bent the laws of physics, maybe?

Well, I agree with you on the lack of clustering. Clearly, don't these people know the only way to solve a love triangle is to ride the tricycle and win the championship belt?

Wau. *o* How many words is it? I actually have won NaNoWriMo the two times I tried it, which was a crush, but it was in a month period obviously. And I thought it was tough and I was just working, not in school.

I'm actually having a hard time because I have this thought in my head, "I hope that I'm not trying to subconsciously compete with highcastle x_x" lulz :B

110K words. Not counting another 15K or so that were lost to the cutting room floor because they didn't work, slowed the plot down, or whatever. I've done NaNo too and it's absolutely a killer. ADRL is definitely the fastest I've put that many words down before, probably because I hadn't written much of anything in a couple months and was feeling like a hack, liked Anders' character, was tired of people completely trashing him, etc. It was a perfect storm of circumstances that made me write like a crazy monkey. If you notice, it took me roughly the same amount of time to do the pseudo-sequel, which was 60K. That's my normal pace, if I'm honest.

Though I once wrote 20K in a day. And cried afterwards over my bleeding fingernails. It's all about the inspiration. I'm always motivated to write...just sometimes I have nothing to say.

LOL!  Thanks to you, I began laughing to myself remembering this scene from 5:05 to 5:37 from an "Eclipse" parody: www.youtube.com/watch

My friend and I have managed to come up with a narrative we really like, at least in regards to our Mahariels and Tabrises (so KoP will hate everything about it.) At this point, both of them see every new tragedy as freeing them from another aspect of the limitations of a mortal heart: no more home, no more love, no more future, no long life, no fear of death, no obligations, no loyalty. At this point both of them basically think:

"Fate has pretty much declared that I am to roam the world with an amoral sex assassin, famed in legend, doing whatever the hell I want? I'm OK with this."

Still, getting there was not fun. Especially the fact that they screwed Anders over right under her nose. Even if she didn't love him she had promised to protect him, and they made a liar of her. Argh that single offscreen thing bothers me more than anything!

I agree. I'm always saying "I know the solution: a polyamorous triad! why am I the only person who ever thinks the solution is a polyamorous triad? Hell, why can't all the characters just live in a big sex commune like in Stranger in a Strange Land? Guys? Where are you going? Guys?"

Also, love Fenders+Hawke. I've also seen a lot of interesting Alistair + PC + Anders (as a third brought in for fun) fics, though I haven't actually read any of them yet, as they're often really bloody long, with chapters and chapters of angst before the good stuff. I am impatient!

This. :(

I think the most I ever wrote in a day was the first day of NaNo 2009. I wrote 5k. I'm too easily distracted.

Correm isn't talking to me very well right now, actually. I got him drunk before he went to get the maps from Anders the day after Tranquility. He's more focused on the fun he had at the Hanged Man after killing all those Templars. :D

I once wrote 10,000 words of original fiction for a novel in a week, which included copious revisions and an outline of the full plot It got me into a prestigious writing workshop over a year ago. I haven't properly touched it since. This is my greatest shame.

I should work on it instead of the Anders thread. Maybe I can make a new rule: my creative output must match the wordcount of my bioware boards posts, or I have to take a break from the boards until it does.

Hmmm.

The thing with drunkenness is that it can quickly spiral from bouncing-off-the-walls-goofy-antics into oh-Maker-what-did-we-do. It's like a free pass to be out of character. ;) Or perhaps he's focused on the fun bits to deflect from the fact that he just helped kill a bunch of templars. I know my Noah's awfully good at not confronting anything negative until it ups and slaps him the face.
