ROFL @leggywillow, why can I imagine Anders and Elthina in the BudLight commercial with Brandon Keener, now? I blame you.

BTW, imagining Anders and Bethany are slowly romancing each other is actually helping me not romance him. It's working for me and my roleplay, so I am putting this out there in case anyone else is having trouble not romancing Anders. I am also leaving Bethany home, so both Anders and myself have hard reasons for what happens later in the story.

Edit: Since we didn't get a shirtless Anders in-game, I give you fan art of it.

Whether or not he's viewed as a villain in the long run depends on who wins the war. There are probably many who respect him for taking a stand and, after Orsino and Meredith are both shown to be strong contenders for The Craziest, Anders might be viewed as something of an anti-hero. What he did was terrible, but I'd say that what he exposed to the world was even more terrible.

LOL Brilliant.

He didn't take a stand, he took action. He blew up a church. I guess people who hated the Chantry and are okay with killing people think he's a hero? Are those people necessarily mages? I'm not saying that the world thought he was a villain, I'm saying that if you did kill him, it wasn't for rewarding him for heroic service. There's a reason why the word "martyr" is synonymous with "loud mouthed idiot," because it totally depends on which side you're on.

DON'T BURN ME I LIKE ANDERS I DOOOO.

There's a saying: "History is written by the victors."  Just like in the real world, only time will tell whether Anders is remembered as a hero or a villain.

Or something along those lines. The balm is said very pointedly, and sounds similar to, well, "bomb". Do you guys think she knows, or knew, what he was up to?

I don't think she knew, or she would certainly try to remove the bomb from her church, if not for her sake then for the innocent people who hang out in the Chantry.

But now I have this mental image:

Elthina: I hope you find a.... balm for it
Anders: Oh ho, I see what you did there!  Balm, bomb... good one!
::They high-five::
Elthina: Seriously though, get that thing the hell out of here.

Hahaha. Win :)

:crying::crying::crying:  Waaahhh!  That was so sad.  Oh my rival-mance with Anders is going to be hard to do.

I did giggle a bit at the "Your better half doesn't like me" line.  Justice, why won't you be the lovably grumpy third wheel in their charming sitcom relationship?  Why must you be so angsty instead?

So I'm planning on romancing Fenris sometime on my second playthough today. The funny or rather sad thing is that I'm going to try my hardest not to romance Anders to my mage because that is just evil of me to lead him on to then end it with him for Fenris. I just feel so bad for him. I think falling in love was his only good thing among his unstable world. It's like I feel I'm cheating him when my new Lady Hawke will be in a completely parallel universe. LOL. Yet it still feels like cheating....Anders you have ruined me!

No but I'm still excited for Fenris. I like him when he's angry. Weird, I think he looks sexier that way. I'll be rival-mancing him since I'll be an apostate mage that enjoys the freedom her family provided for her so she's ready to fight for mages. It should be lovely. Anders is gonna love me but I won't romance him. He is exclusive to my rogue.

That just proves my point. That is why I saved him oddly enough. He isn't much in control anymore. Poor Anders. My Lady Hawke will still stay by his side and love him but yeah......I wonder how much is left of him by the end of the game....the rival-mance it's really painful because I think you can see him suffer even more when he's trying to see your point but he cannot control Justice.

Ugh....

Finished my first play-through last night. I loved the game and the cliffhanger at the end. I thought the end would bother me more, but it didn't. In order for change to happen sometimes it takes more than peaceful action. Yes, he went a bit over-board, but by then my Hawke was pretty wrapped up in the mage cause. Most revolutionaries do things that would be looked down upon or go overboard, but it instigates change. I let him live, the diologue at the very end, when you make the romance concrete shows the cause he is fighting for.

I'm not condoning his actions. Hell, I'm not sure it's even a decision I could make in real life.

Overall, I was very pleased with it all. And that kiss scene...h'oh boy...that alone was worth it.

Yeah...I just finished my first play-through. I sided with the mages to save Bethany, but killed Anders. Such treachery and warmongering can't be tolerated. Trying to help the mages is one thing but the ruthless murder of innocents is going way too far. Was for the best anyway, Anders was possessed.
If it was my decision, I would abandon the circles, but keep the templars to hunt blood mages and those who abuse their powers. But nothing more. You let one side grow to strong, and it all goes to hell.

By the end of the game, I appreciated Anders involvement in the plot, but for much of the game, he annoyed the crap out of me.

I realize that when you have a fade spirit co-habiting a body, the writers have license to drastically alter the character, but he was nigh unrecognizable (as a character). They changed his voice actor to be more appealing as a romance option. And his militant attitude just completely drowned out his sense of humor. Thank God for Isabella as a source of comic relief.

If he was a brand new character, I probably wouldn't have liked him. But as someone I was familiar with, it was all the more frustrating.

He also backed me into a corner one time with forcing me to reply with either a romance or non-romance option. My Hawke is not gay, but was trying to be friends and if I turned him down, the meter goes toward rival and the conversation ends abruptly. Fenris' homosexuality was handled far better and I never got trapped with him. Though, I don't see why romance has to affect friendship/rivalry at all.

Not sure that this is the right place to post this, but I shall do so anyway. I have a tendency to give each character a song and in my playthrough I was absolutely pro-freedom for mages just like Anders. The song that I picked for him was appropriate to the extreme I think. Hurricane by 30 Seconds to Mars.

Tell me would you kill to save a life?
Tell me would you kill to prove you're right?
Crash, crash, burn...
Let it all burn.
This hurricane's chasing us all underground.

No matter how many deaths that I die, I will never forget.
No matter how many lies that I live, I will never regret.
There is a fire inside that has started a riot about to explode into flames.
Where is your God?
Where is your God?
Where is your God?

The only thing I keep thinking when I hear the song now is Anders forcing a revolution through a bit of terrorism. (probably the understatement of the year, I know.) Anyone else got a good song for Anders? Just wondering, I can't be the only person on the planet that thinks in music. hehe.

Anyhow, <3's to all and sorry if this was the wrong place to put something like this.

Oh man, that song, and End Credits by Chase and Status

I don't know if it's the song, or the movie it's from, but it suits Anders SO well, in my opinion.

I think that's weird, tbh. Anders seems like he's really, really attached to Hawke so maybe he just takes the rejection that hard? Even if you're cool with someone else not being into you doesn't mean it won't sting a little.

Love the art, thank you! I just got to the part where he blew up the chantry. Even though I knew what was coming, my heart was beating fast, lol.

I think I'll try that trick you mention with Bethany and Anders, but don't know if I'm ready to let him go quite yet, lol. My god, why am I so obsessed with this man?! I liked him well enough in DAA but this...is madness

And I know it's wrong of me but I really wanted to punch Seb there when he was threatening me because I let Anders live and he called him "special" or somethin like that. He's d@mn lucky I wasn't an evil mage and *let* him leave...

My Hawke is not gay. It should not "Sting" to be rejected by a person who doesn't swing that way. He never had a chance.

There should have been earlier, more gentle opportunities to cut off the gay romance options. It should never have gotten to the point it did. He was too forward. He should have known by then whether Hawke would be interested.

With Fenris, I was able to avoid steering the conversation in that direction. It was handled mjuch, much better.

Yes, that was it! They did a great job with that line because that really got under my skin more than any other comment I'd heard yet.
