Haha I hit "quote" back to go "er..." in confusion and saw Arquen's words instead. So I was like, ooohhh! lulz.

Do you know if that banter triggers after Dissent or is it just anywhere you have the two of them together in Act 2? Is it act 2?

Lol, yeah sorry about that. I forget sometimes that the quote button is at the top of the post I want, not the bottom!

Yes, this triggers after you complete Dissent (so says DragonAgeWiki).

This seemed appropriate for the current discussion:

Ooohhhh that's so sad! I didn't like Merrill much on my first PT but after I found out her VA (which I should've recognized) is the gal on Torchwood I decided to give her another chance.

And he might have reason to be, but really, Anders is kind of cruel to her. It makes me wonder why at the beginning of Act 3 that she might have been at the Hawke Estate in the first place. "If they see two apostates talking", what? Why would he be talking to her there?

That's an interesting point. I highly doubt Anders would have asked her there to try to talk her out of fixing the Eluvian. I'm not really sure what she would have come over to talk to him for. Hmmm...speculation time!

I like this answer. ;)

Merrill comes over, whistling and happy, planning to water Hawke's plants. What a good friend!

Anders: WHAT are you doing here?! Do you know what will happen if they see two apostates talking to each other? Or in the same house? Or in the same district?!

Merrill pouts.

Merrill: B-but, the marigolds! They're thirsty!

Hawke walks in just in time to see Merrill walking away, looking miserable.

I know that he doesn't have that much in common with the character...  But this is just a huge fantasy of mine...

I wasn't even joking. Merrill leaves note to Hawke about how she invades the house to water Hawke's plants, the same place as Isabella leaves note about stealing ( I mean borrowing) Hawke's dresses. Which makes me wonder if Hawke never locks her door...
Am I the only one friendshippinh Merrill in this thread?

Oh yes, I totally remember the note from Merrill on Hawke's desk. It was cute. :) I actually like Merrill quite a lot and go the friendship route with her on every play through.

No!  I love Merrill!    She's just so sweet and completely oblivious...  I find her very endearing!  :D

As Hawke, I've never dated her (feels too much like a little sister)...  But she was my partner's choice for LI on his play through...  He said that she was the LI that reminded him the most of me...

Now that I think about it, I don't know if that was meant as a compliment...  <_<  Hmmm...

Well, he did describe her as cute, funny, and adorable (especially with the babbling.  He loved her babbling)...  So perhaps that's a good sign...  I should probably stop giving it too much thought...

@Recflection
The real reason Anders is so mad at Merrill is because she watered the plant where he stuffed his lates version on the manifesto in. (He was out of books in the libery)

Hahaha, that's great. That gives me all kinds of fun mental images of him huffing over that discovery.

I like to imagine that Anders is nice to Merrill sometimes just because she is a mage, she's sweet and she's probably got all kinds of books on old Dalish magic that he finds interesting. But he's also an ass a lot, and she's an easy target because she's nice, she's in a similar situation to him (or on the road to ending up like him) and he's projecting all this self-hatred for what he did to himself/Justice onto her and is so frustrated that she a) won't listen and B) is actually handling herself remarkably well despite being, in his mind, a naive little girl.

It was my first thought too KoP, don't feel to badly ;)

That being said, it's whats-his-face from The Crow. Before my time, so I'm not sure what the heck his name is really. Not to say its MUCH before my time, I just wasn't of appropreate age-and-mentality yet to have enjoyed it :pinched:

Which, speaking of Goth, I was watching Disney's Finious and Pherb this morning w/ my 3 year old and they made mention of Candice being "Goth", and I chuckled, because it's a tell of just how old the writers/creators actually are. Which, made me feel old. *sob*:crying:

This is also exactly how I think Anders relationship with Merrill is.

I was 13 when "The Crow" came out...  Just old enough to be intensely lusting after Brandon Lee!  Lol!

Now you're starting to make me feel like a grandma!  :crying:  Thanks!  ;)

Oh!  And the character's name is Eric Draven.  :P

Don't feel old, it's only a year <3

*nodnod* I like this idea. I have a lot of personal experience with people projecting their self-thoughts on other people. Enough to where I'm not sure why I didn't notice it in the game and am surprised at my obtuse-ness.

Re: The Crow stuff
It came out when I was 10, but I'm not sure if I saw it unil I was around 16 or 17. I never got to see a lot of intense movies like that at that age... Happens when you're the oldest and no older siblings to be watching stuff outside your age category. ;d

As far as parallels with the movie and Anders go, well, the main character does have a kind of death that turns into a rebirth that allows him to go after, um, general badness and vengeance/ justice type ideals. A lot of the Janders conversations on here have involved the idea that "Anders" ceases to be to make way for "Janders". And for both of these characters, they are able to accomplish things after this that they would not have otherwise been able to before.

Nope, you're not the only one. I've been itching to know more about the Eluvian since I first saw it in Origins, so I always help Merrill with her research, even though it doesn't go anywhere. Except the Keeper catching a massive case of stupid and dying and the rest of the clan potentially committing suicide by Hawke, that is.

I'll guess that Bodahn is rather indiscriminate about the people he lets into the manison. Except for Merrill who climbs in through the windows, Isabela who picks your locks and Anders who sneaks in through the cellar at night and watches you sleep as he stuffs your underwear drawer full of manifestos.

Yep. Hawke only give him her basement key because she is tired of the basement door being burnt down by the fireball spell Anders thinks he has.

Somehow I am not surprised that Anders is so paranoid, he is basically living with the person who has the worst security in her house ever.

I find the question of Merril and the Eluvian to be very interesting narratively, because it's literally impossible to understand or metagame. It could end up being the salvation of everyone or it could unleash some unspeakable horror. It could literally be anything. It's risk incarnate.
