This is what happens when I finally dig out my Wacom tablet. Um. THIS IS ALL LEGBAMEL'S FAULT. I take no responsibility.

He is totally not happy to be a unicorn.

Sigh.

Edit: Why did it make the picture look bigger than the file I saved it as? :(

Why?  Fate.  :innocent:  I think he's only unhappy because he's lost his hair.  He does have a bit of a sparkle-butt thing going there.  Now if only he had some ruffles...

Dear gods of ToP: very funny.

D'awwwwww. I'm picturing the kitten waking Anders up by rubbing its chin on the side of his face. How happy would sleepy!Anders be?

I'm just curious, how many of you Ander's fans think the most appropriate sort of "ending" to DA2 is playing a Mage who romanced Anders?

what perfect timing por moi

there's obviously no canon outside of what bioware sets in the sequel, certainly not to romance or class, but that said, i tend to believe that since anders is the most dynamic character in terms of choice and the love interest most tied to the overarching plot, romancing him on a first runthrough is, to me, the ideal way to experience the game.

before anyone jumps on my ****, let me explain:

i spent a few hours in a general thread arguing with people about the choice-consequence of da2 vs dao, because my position is that there is more in da2, just that it is largely companion-based and more nuanced. the greatest example of this is anders friend/rivalry path dichotomy -- he essentially becomes a different person depending on a series of consistent player choices. if romanced, you spend more time with him, probably become much more emotionally invested in him.

furthermore, the entirety of act 3 is a deconstruction of the traditional bioware rpg chosen-hero-makes-decisions-saves-world narrative, but that escapes a lot of people, and romancing anders, where there is a simultaneous deconstruction (this time of sappy romances) sort of nails the point home.

so yeah, i think anders' emotional arc and hawke's narrative arc flow brilliantly together and sort of feel made for each other. it's my preferred ending and i think, story-wise, it's the most appropriate.

as far as mage goes, well, promo hawke is mage hawke, but it doesn't really make a difference in-game so w/e

If we're gonna have that dumb WHAT'S THE BEST CANON discussion again, I prefer non-mage Hawke because a) the story is a little less ridiculous and B) he/she has more to lose and less intrinsic personal stake in the mage/templar conflict, and I like that non-mage Hawke ~*~*~*chooses*~*~*~ to not **** over the mages or Anderps when he/she could just walk away in a way that mage Hawke kinda can't

Anders definitely has way more plot relevance than any of the other LIs and he's basically the main character of DA2 anyway, so yeah.

Yeah, that's kind of how I felt about it. My first run through I romanced Fenris since I know a lot of people said they thought it was better than the Anders romance but it's just..uhh sort of weird if you are playing a Mage especially. You're like with a guy who is probably going to continue getting into arguments with you about how much he hates magic when either your sister is a mage or you're a mage yourself lol.

And then I just REALLY love Isabela and her romance seemed like a pretty good choice since she does support Mages, and in the Last Straw she is just really happy she is finally with you. But at the same time I always felt like it made more sense story-wise to be with Anders.

The only thing I really do hate about DA2 is the fact that character interaction was severely limited compared to DA:O, I feel like you get the chance to talk to them uh twice a year, so like 6 times the whole game. The only character I felt that had real character growth was Isabela, especially after she comes back with the Tome. Fenris sort of stays the same even if you romance him, and the deal with Anders is that he just gets deeper and deeper into the darkness that is Justice.

It does fit though, with the sort of tragic tone that DA2 sets to romance Anders since he does something that drastic and lies to you about it and then just won't tell you what's going to happen. I just hated that you hardly got the chance to interact with them at all, DA:O it was like you could talk to them literally the whole game. I really hope they bring back that kind of interaction for DA3.

But as far as choice-consequence I understand that people don't see as much in DA2, but it never bothered me because I actually like the core storyline at the heart of DA2. Sure, it could have been done better potentially but I'm not going to sit here and compare it to DA:O all day. The only thing I HAVE to compare is the character interaction.

Lol, the reason I kind of asked this too is because I'm sure that whenever DA3 comes out there will be some sort of option for save-import and I'm in the middle of doing another playthrough and still couldn't decide who I want to romance. DA:O was sooo much easier, Female Human Noble who marries Alistair! Perfect. Lol

This is a dangerous question. I hope that anyone who answers it can avoid demeaning the gameplay choices of others, since it's all subjective.

But, to answer your question, I don't see any as being more or less appropriate than the others. My canon Andersmance is a warrior and it feels absolutely appropriate, since she'd been raised by her father to see the injustices of the Chantry's treatment of mages and has chosen to take their cause up as her own. She thinks that she's in an excellent position to protect and aid them, not being vulnerable to the templars and not having the stigma attached to herself.

Although, and I hate to do this because I love Isabela, Anders feels like the right LI for DA2. Like ipgd says, he's the most important character in the game and the ending is so much more if you've romanced him and, well, he always loves you, so there is that...

Agh, I'm sorry. I think you guys are taking it the wrong way I didn't mean like THIS is how Dragon Age is supposed to be played. There is no correct way, I'm not talking about "canon" or anything. It was more a question based on how I felt about the game personally, and I was curious to see if any others agreed with the sentiments because this is an Anders thread so I would assume most of you preferred an Anders romance and I was simply curious of the response I would get...if more people felt like his romance was fitting to their story as well. Not what they think is canon, necessarily.

Hey, we can always headcanon a threeway on her ship :crying:

As I am perpetually saying, Bioware passed up the best opportunity for threeways with DA2. Come on, you did it in Jade Empire )':

Well my main Hawke was a warrior/Templar for story reasons. Outside I normally hate playing the casting classes in games lol.  However I liked it because I was standing up for mages without being one myself.  It held it's own feeling of standing up for what one believe's in over "I have to because I am" Though I enjoyed romancing Anders with a mage, it was nice being two apostates taking on the world.

However Fenris was saved for my snarky overly gay Hawke lol, best romance for that elf.:wizard:

That's sort of what I was wondering about. I just love Isabela so much haha, but in the back of my mind I've just always felt like the story makes more sense to me if you romance Anders. In my current playthrough I'm just being a total flirt basically until act 2 to decide haha.

I haven't romanced Isabella or Merrill yet, but between Fenris and Anders it would be a tough choice, and mainly based on my mood. Each of them fulfills different emotional needs of mine. ;d But I really love how mutable Anders is and how much he can change based on how you treat him. I just love that.

Heck, you could have a four-way with her in DA:O if you did it right!  Headcanon must step in to fix the discussion with Anders, Isabela, and Zev, I fear.

Yeah, in my current playthrough, I'm actively trying to romance Fenris, but also want Isabella's romance armor, but no matter what I do, it seems that Fenris doesn't want to sleep with Hawke after his personal quest . . . I'm not sure if it's because I already slept with Isabella or not, even though I did all his stuff before the quest and hit all the flirt options. That damn elf is just being so difficult! I think I might just romance Isabella instead and say "screw the elf" cuz I think I missed all the flirt options with Anders, even though I didn't actively break his heart (having him flirt first is just so cute and it's a pro-mage playthrough). Wow, I think I'm channeling Merrill . . .

But anyway, the funny thing is, I did a playthrough with ****!Hawke and managed to sleep with everyone no problem, going with Isabella then Fenris. The elf basically jumped him while I was trying to go for Merrill . . . yet I have problems when I try to make him my primary. Moral of the story: I think the game wants me to go with Anders.

Lol, Merrill freaked me out in my first playthrough. I was romancing Fenris, couldn't recall EVER flirting with her and she showed up at my house and started rambling and I was like...oh no..thankfully she pretends she wasn't there for anything when I say "You're like a sister to me, Merrill" haha.

I know you can't flirt with anyone durning act two. I thought you could sleep with Isabela as long as it was before you slept with him.  His romance is a tricky one.

Isabela can bug out the Fenris romance. Basically he's a pain in the ass, and if you sleep with anyone else before him there's a chance to bug/lock it out.  Mind you, it doesn't always happen, but its a sometimes thing and it can. If you sleep with anyone -after- him, you can't complete the romance because he's a snob ;p

Best bet is, if you're trying to romance Fenris, romance Fenris. Aka, Don't flirt with other companions in Act 2 at all (except Sebastian/Aveline/Varric, who have no barring on the romances ;p)

If you want full details I'm sure I could be persuaded to give you the whole run down on Fenris and his romance and how to do it.. but, alas, this is the Anders thread and that would be off topic. So, if you're curious, feel free to toss me a PM :X

The bugging is funny, like I said, especially because my aggro/everyone's rival playthrough got the sex scene no problem from him :P  Think I might just do this as an Isabella romance anyway.  I like her better! ^_^

I've tried romancing Fenris before, but I just couldn't do it. I ended up with Anders again, telling him that Fenris left me and there was this whole "I am sorry if he hurt you~" scene in there and well, I guess I just have a problem avoiding Anders. :3c

Though, I do miss Ser pounce-a-lot. >_>

It's so cute on the occasions where Anders comforts you for anything. <3 On my last PT I made sure to do Dissent before All That Remains. I even had to turn tail and run when I saw Gamlen in the living room because I went too far on the primary quests. lol
