Oh, definitely in my favorite playthroughs I romance Anders. I just like to explore and see everything, which includes romances I don't prefer and aggressive playstyles, but aggro!Hawke who was a dick to everyone was a special brand of entertaining. I couldn't make him go through with the romance scene with Anders, though. It just felt too wrong. The Fenris scene was just about right, though.

Edit: gah!  ToP!  Have an Anders with kittens.

I've tried romancing Fenris before, but I just couldn't do it. I ended up with Anders again, telling him that Fenris left me and there was this whole "I am sorry if he hurt you~" scene in there and well, I guess I just have a problem avoiding Anders. :3c

Though, I do miss Ser pounce-a-lot. >_>

I'm firmly in this club. I've tried romancing him about twice, but the problem I have is RPing a Hawke who'd seriously be okay with being celibate for three years while Fenris gets his head on straight. Does this make me a shallow person? Probably. Oh well.

Plus, that little extra line from Anders is completely worth going the Fenris->Anders route.

You know it is all this talk that made me start up a game to romance Fenris, just so he can dump my Hawke and she can go running to Anders, sweet elfroot smelling arms, and know that it was meant to be.  Sadly this means trying to dodge Anders advances and worse, resisting the urge to flirt with the man....Those eyes...they get me everytime...:?

Haha, they get me every time too, which is probably the problem I have with trying to romance someone else.

Yeah, that's kind of how I felt about it. My first run through I romanced Fenris since I know a lot of people said they thought it was better than the Anders romance but it's just..uhh sort of weird if you are playing a Mage especially. You're like with a guy who is probably going to continue getting into arguments with you about how much he hates magic when either your sister is a mage or you're a mage yourself lol.

Heh. I recently made a healer mage who I can't see romancing anyone but Fenris. He's an abrasive jackass who gets off on hurling crap at people and having an equal amount of crap hurled at him in turn, so the elf with his broody anti-mageness is just a perfect fit.

The other mage I have is gay for Merrill. Well, just gay, I suppose. Anders is my favorite romance, but I prefer romancing him with characters that aren't mages, because I get a feeling that a lot of his dialogue is geared that way. He keeps making a big deal about being hunted and a fugitive and "would you tell the Knight-Commander that you love an apostate" when I too am a apostate and hunted and that the Knight-Commander would probably not invite me in for tea and cakes if she ever came a-knockin'.

Not that I think that him romancing a mage is any less fitting, mind you. Not at all. I just wish the game reflected me being a mage more in general.

Well, it still works since if you are a mage I know he changes his dialogue in that "drown us in blood" scene or whatever to reflect the fact that he's worried the Templars/Meredith will basically stop being tolerable of the fact that you are a Mage given your status and that you've helped them somewhat (like that quest where all the Templars are being posessed) It's not quite clear if they know you are a mage during that time though.

But after that, in Act 3 I remember Meredith basically told me to stfu at one point and pretty much said the only reason I'm not locked up is because she allows it since I'm the Champion of Kirkwall. That's also another reason she hasn't come down on Anders, when he starts arguing with her she makes it clear she's known that Anders is an apostate, and Hawke is the only reason he's pretty much been safe for so long even if Hawke is a mage herself.

So, it was sort of an interesting predicament. Oh, and I think it's kind of cute how at the end you'd be two apostates running away together. Haha. Anders is pretty paranoid about all that anyways, but I always thought Meredith knew of his existence which was sort of confirmed.

Edit-- and about the Fenris thing, no I definitely know haha I do like Fenris but then I got to thinking about how if my Hawke,
as a mage, was going to be with him like long-term it would really
work. Even though this is the farthest thing from real life, I could
just see my Hawke and Fenris getting into
arguments aaaallll the time. Though being with someone who uh, blew up a
chantry is probably 20x harder actually...lol. Ah well, what can you do?!

So I am watching a friend play DA 2 and she has Anders and Fenris in the party. I was listening to the banter and I think I now know why Fenris's brooding irk's me more then Anders.

While Anders can be grating I think I stand it more, because Anders is comeplain and preaching about a group of people and not just himself, so I find it to be less selfish and more easy to deal with. If Fenris was complaining not just about his life as a slave, but all slaves I don't think I would be so pissed every time he opened his mouth.

I was told Fenris had some basis off Valen Shadowbreath from HotU, and as I loved Valen, and he will be my fave romance forever. But Valen was a different broody. He wasn't going on all the time about how **** his life was. He expressed his distrust for you, which makes sense considering how you got there. Fenris, he just seems like he secretly wants pity.

I generally like Fenris, but I hate the feeling of how he's just.... There. For really no reason. I always feel like I'm missing something from him when I play.

Tidra wrote...

I'm just curious, how many of you Ander's fans
think the most appropriate sort of "ending" to DA2 is playing a Mage who
romanced Anders?

Ifffff I'm gonna go by game story, I prefer a non-mage Hawke but I always play mages because I like the gameplay and Carver.

Very true.

Anders says stuff like "man it sucks to be a mage!"
While Fenris says "It sucks to be me! Let me shove it in your face!"

i.e.
MINE WERE CARVED INTO MY FLESH AGAINST MY WILL!
AVERT YOUR EYES WITCH!
etc etc etc.

Honestly the whole tone Fenris says that in just really makes me facepalm.

He does have a rather... grandiose way of speaking. When he first talked about escaping a land of foul magics and magic "being a curse burned into his flesh and his soul" or something along those lines, I cringed a little. People don't normally talk like that. I can only guess that he's encountered a poet at one point that left a rather deep impression on him.

I did joke in passing, I didn't know a slave who couldn't read or know to much of anything, could speak so well, or talk the Qun... I am not saying he should have been doumb, but I just thought he was a bit to well spoken. Does that make sense?

Hmm, it never really bothered me in game. I suppose since in many fantasy worlds people speak differently, or more "grandiose" at times. I don't think it's necessarily not normal, it's probably just odd to us given our culture. He did strike me as being more intelligent about customs with other places, and their history, etc.

But now that you mention how he brought up not being able to read it does seem a little strange. However, I was under the impression that Danarius pretty much took him everywhere with him. He also ends up leaving him on Seheron after a battle between Magisters and the Qunari. I don't remember, but is it known if the Fog Warriors were human or Qunari..or what? They are freedom fighters for Seheron which the Qunari have controlled for some time so I am pretty sure that's why Fenris has knowledge of the Qunari customs.

You don't really need to know how to read to speak a language, and despite being a slave I am sure there is much he learned from being around Danarius and living in the Tevinter Imperium in general.

And...lol @ this being in the Anders thread. Should probably change the subject haha.

I only found they he spoke odd because he was a slave.  If Anders or anyone else would have talked like that it wouldn't have been a big deal.  But because he was a slave and was meant to seen not heard, his way of talking seems far mor educated.  Also if I am not mistaken people who can't read often have issues talking or is that the other way around.

Maybe that's how the Magisters talk in Tevinter. Haha. I don't know, Fenris is just Fenris. There's no other way to really put it. He glows and puts his fist through people, good enough for me. The Qunari also speak differently, generally in a more direct or...vague way. Kind of reminds me of how Fenris acts/talks. He seems quite alike to the Qunari, actually. He pretty much cuts through all the BS concerning everything, and has his own views that he upholds pretty staunchly.

That one line was probably what put me off Fenris. It was just too much, and not in a good way. I can take a good deal of drama, but that completely vaporizes drama, blows through melodrama and comes out the other side. At that point, immersion was gone. All I could think of was "Wow, bet the emo kids are lapping this up." And that's not really a good way to play a game. So yeah, Anders has some truly cringe-worthy lines, I won't deny it, but Fenris has his share, too.

Oh, a quick question I'm not sure if anyone would know this but I know there are sometimes bugs concerning the Epilogue...like Varric will say you were with someone else than Anders. Lots of people say they do Fenris first and then Anders, but I was wondering is there a bug if you sleep with Isabela first, then move on to Anders as a primary romance? If Varric still says at the end "all except Isabela" I know this was bugged for a lot of people if they were with Isabela at all but I can't recall if it got fixed in a patch or something.

I have an allergy against grandiose fantasy speak in general I suppose, especially if it's similar to the sort of thing that overdramatic teenagers wearing too much eyeliner write down in their diaries. Fenris has a reason, but I just... gah. I've had enough of it.

Dunno about Isabela, but I do know that if you sleep with Fenris first, Varric will get the epilogue right.

For some reason I've always thought that Fenris picked up his way of talking from the Fog Warriors he lived with. Then again, I have no idea whether Fog Warriors talk the same as regular Qunari or not, so I could be wrong. Posted Image

I do think the reason he knows so much about the Qunari and their customs is because he spent so much time on Seheron, which is primarily Qunari controlled. I think Sten is also from there actually. I'm not quite sure what the Fog Warriors are either, but you might be right he could have picked it up from them. He seemed to respect them a lot...despite the fact that he ended up killing them all.

Should have been fixed in PC 1.02 (consoles 1.01). I know it was if you romanced Fenris first, anyway. Isabela may still get the shout out if you agree to go on her ship post-game, but at that point it's no longer a bug and was in fact intended.

Anders' name echoed in the background after Varric already said Anders before for me

Just making sure, I assume.
