If you are using a post-campaign save where Anders is romanced as a rival and you sided with the templars, Anders will act as if there is no romance at all. This is consistent with Varric's omission of "everyone, except for Anders." Which has made me lose all interest in playing this through with my warrior.
and really, what do you expect from anders if you screw him over that badly
I'd break up with me too if I rivalmanced him and sided with Templars hahaha.
And, yeah...Fenris isn't exactly hugs and kisses. I don't see this as quite a shock. I romanced him in my first PT and like, by the time I was doing the second I regretted even sleeping with him again or having him in my party. His character is a total BAMF but my second PT I just really wanted to punch him, repeatedly. Over. And. Over.
But yeah, that does seem pretty crappy nothing was mentioned for him at all. Seems like Anders has some pretty good romance banters though which is good to hear. Though apparently Hawke doesn't get much lines to help console him or..something?

The Anders thread loves you, and there are also reasons why I don't look up voice actors pictures.

I can't even STOMACH leaving Carver behind for the Deep Roads. Seriously. Him becoming a Templar, my God, I would seriously kill him if I was his sister irl. "Hey, bro, I'm home...OH WTF??? I'M A MAGE YOU BASTARD!" I would literally. KILL HIM. Oh, hey, our Dad was a Mage too. One who spent his life away from Templars and everything they stood for...and you just decided to stab a dead man in the back. GRRRRRR... freaking Carver. >.< Him becoming a Templar to me is like, the lowest blow ever. He's much better off as a Grey Warden anyhow.
Ahem...rant over. But, lol, another reason I love Anders. So funny. "Oh yes, ser. Please, ser!" My Hawke would be lol'ing hard at Carver.

I felt much the same way. On my canon character I'd carefully avoided spoilers, but Carver ended up in the Wardens, anyway. After I found out he could become a Templar instead (really, Carver, WTF?), I've avoided it like the plague. I know I'll have to do it eventually, just for the sake of doing it, but it's pretty insulting. And plot-wise, pretty amazing and messed up.

The same Dad whose best friend was apparently a templar, and who decided to name one of his children after him. If he had any chip on his shoulder about templars, it was rather obviously quite a smaller one.Tidra wrote...

So uh, one templar? Out of...how many? One Templar that was good enough of a man to help him, who deserved to have a child named after him, because he was 1 in a million for Malcolm.
I never said he had a chip on his shoulder about them, but if he loved Templars he wouldn't be running away from them constantly just so he could even have a life of his own. I would have a pretty big chip about that, in fact. Not being able to have a life or a family for myself without being on the run just because of being born a certain way. He made the best of it though.
It'd be different if Carver joined the Templars to do some good, but he's standing there threatening Anders and works for someone who would have taken in Hawke in a heartbeat if they hadn't saved the city from the Qunari in front of tons of nobles.

Not all templars are evil. Malcolm knew that better than anyone which is why Carver was named after a good one. I think the Order could benefit from templars like Carver and Keran or Thrask who don't abuse the people they're supposed to be watching over. I prefer Carver as a Grey Warden (because he ultimately seems happier that way). However, I did do at least one save where he became a templar. It annoyed me that Anders' kept trying to provoke him with that banter but I was proud of Carver for showing restraint. We all know Carver can be a bit of a ****** but my Hawke is super protective of him. I wanted her to turn around and glare at her boyfriend for picking on her baby brother.

Me, neither, but for different reasons. I adore Carver. He, Anders, and Varric are definitely my A-team, and I leave one of them behind only when absolutely required to do so. I just wish there was a way to keep Carver for the whole game. And the three of them together in Legacy? Best. Team. Ever.Tidra wrote...

Me, too. I missed Carver after he went away. I was so pleased I got him back at the end. And, to top it off, he was a lot nicer! Carver/Anders/Varric is definitly my go-to party as well.

Awesome. Time to play through with my Warden Carver!
Edit: Added wall of text, which may not make sense. Time to sleep.
About the Calling:
Also, he tells Hawke the Wardens "send" the ones who are hearing the Calling into the Deep Roads to die. I always had the impression that a) it was a tradition and
Not sure on the lore on what exactly they turn into, only that it's something else instead of a ghoul.
That particular conversation makes it sound like going to the Deep Roads is the only way Wardens are allowed to die once they hear the Calling. Which seems weird.
Warden-Commander: And once you hear your Calling, you can only kill yourself off by going into the Deep Roads and dying in a ~glorious~ fight against the darkspawn.
Oghren: Perfect!
Anders: ...Can't we just poison ourselves or something?
Warden-Commander: Nope!
Anders:
Took Seb along in Legacy and he had a banter with Anders.
Seb: Don't you miss being in the Wardens? (paraphrased)
Anders: Not for a moment.
I call shenanigans. He doesn't miss the Warden-Commander (assuming they were friends)? Or Nate or Oghren or the other Wardens? People who were his friends, tried to help him steal his phylactery, and took out Ser Rylock when she tried to drag him off again?
It's all that replacement Warden-Commander's fault, taking away his cat. It must have been Stroud. STROUD! *shakes fist*

Have you considered that in the storyline where Carver becomes templar, Anders manages to do his routine precisely because Carver doesn't turn him in, despite being aware of the whole being possessed business? Such awful, death deserving brother and terrible mage oppressor.

No, because the Knight-Commander specifically states that the only reason she hasn't come down on Anders is because of his friendship with the Champion. That, and I don't see Carver as the kind of person to stick his neck out for anyone despite them being friends with Hawke - especially Anders. But, lol...yes, awful, death deserving brother. Damn, you really nailed me there!
That, and, Carver doesn't seem to have any problems obeying the Knight-Commander like a dog in the Templar ending. Cullen is the first of them to speak up, and even says he thought they were only supposed to arrest Hawke, which Carver apparently would have let happen...since he only speaks up finally in defense of Hawke when the Knight-Commander commands them to kill them all.
I'm not saying he would immediately rat out Anders to Meredith, because I doubt he would at the start of Act 2, but after that it doesn't really have much to do with him being a Templar. Hawke is an icon in the city after that. That, and, if he was even a good brother at all he wouldn't want to draw attention to his sibling via their friends. If he was ordered though, sure, he would pick Anders up in a heartbeat. Otherwise, I think he just doesn't want to bother with it because it's Hawke's friend. Regardless, his loyalty kind of sucks in my book when he becomes a Templar. An order that I've been trying to avoid my whole life, and you decide to join them? Well, gee, thankssss for hunting my kind, little bro! Again, that's my opinion. One you don't have to agree with.
How dares he threaten Anders into shutting up when Anders is the first to give him the usual passive-aggressive lip. Inexcusable.
Except he doesn't threaten him to shut up, he threatens to turn him in just for making fun of him for being a Templar. Bit of a last resort, I would think, when someone is trying to purposely screw with you. He also, again, specifically states the only reason Anders is free is because he knows Hawke.
That's one templar who became Malcolm's best friend. That hardly means he was the only such templar. Why, you even meet another nice templar as Hawke, yourself.
I never said there was only "one such Templar" like him in all of Thedas because there are more like him. I said, one of out how many...which in Malcolm's case it appears there was ONLY one.

I once spent 20 minutes running around the Wounded Coast with just Hawke and Anders trying to get that to trigger, and now I can't remember how I did it. Had Anders selected when Hawke died, maybe.

Yes it does. You have to pick the "I'm supposed to trust you?" purple dialog the first time you meet Larius. The first response is Isabela and the second is Fenris.

Aveline: What now, mage?
Aveline: Any minute I'll be inspired to be a guard captain and turn you over to the templars.
Anders: What are you going on about?
Aveline: Ooh, authority! Ooh!
Anders: Oh, shut up.
Aveline also gets some funny banter with Varric, mainly about his connection to the Carta. Varric gives her some metaphor about beekeepers kicking a beehive and the fact he likes honey and won't tell her.
I love Aveline so much. I probably identify more with her than Hawke.
